@Riot, Smurfing problem.

Best Valor NA··3 votes·1,311 views

Do you guys plan on doing anything to the smurfing problem? There is a huge problem with smurfs in ranked, and in lower levels.

Ranked: Plenty of Plat/Diamond/Master/Challenger players can boost their friends by going on smurfs and playing Dynamic Queue with them, is boosting okay now or something?

Low Level: Smurfs obviously easily dominate low level games and make the games un-fun for the actual low level players, this can lead to players to stop playing League. Obviously this is a big problem as well.

if the account is properly level'd/ranked then boosting via dynamic Q is completely legal and is an intended part of the system. it has ALWAYS worked this way dynamic Q just makes it slightly easier

Dynamic queue is bullshit.

Yes it's been around, but the idea of boosting in general is garbage.

So it's totally cool that a couple diamond smurfs boost their bronze friends to gold/platinum where they don't belong?

riot has gone on the record to say smurfing is completely legal and they will not take actions against smurfs. boosting ( the paid service in which another player account shares ) is against the ToS. how ever duoing with a friend and boosting him is within the rules of the game and riot has and will continue to allow this because they are not breaking any rules.

I understand what they legal and what's not, it's their game and they can do whatever.

But the idea of it is complete bullshit, it's harming the community and ranked play, and it's ridiculous that they wont do anything about it.

Takazaki1 votes

its not harming the community what so ever. they wont do anything about it because again its not breaking any conventional rules they any game company has set up before. the smurfing population is a lot smaller then the actual division so it effect a low % of games. have i had to deal with smurfs? yeah, i ran into a jungle mid duo twice while i was plying in bronze and they completely wreaked me. was i upset? no, it means i needed to play better to get on their level ( albeit i was trying to do y get out of bronze in 7 days challenge and they almost made me lose it ). people who are salty at smurfs are just mad about their inability to play on their level. riot will not punish players for being good and shouldn't punish them, as for friend boosters same thing. very small % and it doesn't really effect the overall community.

Best Valor NA2 votes

But what about the people in bronze who get boosted to plat, and whenever they play alone, they lose games for their teammates. If that's not harming the community then IDK what is.

And people who make new accounts and steamroll threw low level games makes people feel shitty and takes away their liking of the game. I don't see how this wouldn't harm the community either.

Again this is a competitive game if you are not good to be at the rank you are at the system will balance it out over time. people who belong in their division have a 50% win rate and will not drop out of it because a boosted player. saying my gaming experience is ruined when someone feeds is like saying when the enemy team does better then me or my teammates i have no fun. that's a child's mentality.

also for the low levels they get matched with other smurfs due to mmr being higher then normal. I've created over 6 account and this has always been the case.

saying that any of this is ruining your experience might have some validation but you cannot speak about a group of players that A you don't represent ( high elo having boosted animals or low levels )

Best Valor NA1 votes

A competitive game should have a balanced playing field. No? 3 plats and 2 boosted bronze players vs 5 plats isnt really balanced is it. It screws 3 of the losing teammates. and gives a free win to those of the other team.

Having your gaming experience ruined by someone who didn't earn their rank and shouldn't be there, is a lot different then versing someone who is just better then you.

You're right though, I obviously can't speak for the whole community. But I don't think people in high elo like having their games ruined by smurfs, or new players like getting stomped when theyre just trying to learn.

Takazaki1 votes

new players get stomped by beginner bots. doesn't matter what they do if they have 0 experience it all depends on how quickly they pick up things. also in no competitive game is ANYONE on an even playing field. Super smash bros, you thought you were good when no one on your street could beat you, then suddenly you get bopped by a technical fox player. you shoot some pool with your family and you match up pretty well? then suddenly you goto a pool table and find out your shit. complaining about losing to people who are better then you are is pointless.

Best Valor NA1 votes

There is a ranking system specificly for this game, theres no ranked system for Smash, and theres no ranked system for pool. The system is there so that everyone in the game should be around the same playing level.

And with the new players, im talking about anyone from 1-15 where they still get stomped by smurfs, and not bots.

Takazaki1 votes

There is a ranking system for smash albeit community based and not an exact science, my grandfather was a regular in a pool hall and everyone knew how they matched up to him because they played there often to. although they dont use algorithms for pool/smash its normally well understood the level of skill you opponent has.

and as i say before people 1-15 have been beaten by bots, i have a friend who has lost to beginner bots and could barly even stay alive in lane against other players her mmr. smurfs will ALWAYS have higher mmr then legit new players and there for will not be matched with them.

as i have said before i own about 5 or 6 accounts and this has ALWAYS been the case without exception. i may get a new player here or there but generally its always smurfs and the new players i do get aren't halve bad (all considering). no ones experience has been ruined at all, they only found out about the smurfs afterwords then complained because it felt unfair only after having it planted in their minds that because the game wasn't stacked in their favor they lost.

This entire thread is complaining about smurfing, the simple fix that is improve your own gameplay. stop complaining that they are better then you and deal with them as is. i've played soloq for my entirety of the time i've spent playing league ( with the exception of this last month where i've had a friend who wants to duo all the time) and i know what its like going up against and being a smurf. neither situation was toxic/harmful to the community. even when i announced i was smurfing people either didnt care or didnt believe.

And Riot is shit for it

if the account is properly level'd/ranked

By DEFINITION, a smurf account would not be "properly ranked". If you have a Diamond account and a Bronze account, then either one of those two is entirely IMPROPERLY ranked or else Riot's ranking system is ENTIRELY arbitrary, since there's no reason someone should have 2 accounts with such a wide disparity.

DeathBurst2 votes

You don't stay Bronze if you are actually Diamond, and you don't intentionally throw games. I guess that's what Takazaki meant by "properly ranked".

Whether high ranking players continuously create new accounts to "re-level" from Bronze to Plat+ OR intentionally tank games (which is known to happen), the fact is that you have players in the lower elos that do NOT belong there. What's the difference between a player levelling an account from Bronze to Diamond, then creating a new account placing in bronze and repeating the process over and over, vs. a player simply having an account that is set at whatever elo they choose and moving within the ranks. In both cases, you have people in lower elos that are OP for those elos.

It's only made WORSE by the people that intentionally tank, because not only do they stomp people in low elo when they're "trying" but they also screw their team and knock climbers when they're "tanking". In ALL cases smurfs are wrecking the "integrity" of low elo. At least in solo queue they had no "incentive" aside from just "these guys are assholes", but now anyone who can carry has a reason to find people that want "help" out of lower elos. And true solo players are really just playing a lottery and HOPING that their not on the wrong side of a smurf effort.

Takazaki1 votes

A) people do not run into smruf often enough to ruin their climb. because if you climbing you're are 51+% winrate. if you get a smurf and lose 1 game due to it and it " ruins" your climb, you probably weren't climbing to begin with. B) when people smurf and create fresh account the MMR is WAY higher then normal and get placed in gold or higher. C)getting placed bronze is exceptional hard without straight up trolling because of how low your stats have to be to get there. so this actually not really even a bronze problem but more of a gold/silver problem

The other problem is that our mains keep getting banned for fucking infantile things.

And when that happens we're not going to just go away quietly, we're going to make the game hell for the people who wronged us. Eat shit baddie. If you don't like it, git good.

Yer Not My Uncle1 votes

^I'm with this guy. Have had 4 accounts perma banned totaled because I shit talk to people who intentionally troll and feed, but play it like "im trying my best" fuck you noobs.

Best Valor NA6 votes

What's the point of even talking shit to intent feeders? If they're trolling you then you're just falling into their trap lmao.

It's your own fault that your accounts get banned.

Best Valor NA7 votes

we're going to make the game hell for the people who wronged us

The new players trying to learn the game didn't do shit to you.

And people wouldn't get banned if people would just stop being toxic and trash talking.

5050BS1 votes

Only why they can fix a ton of the problems with multiple accounts and he "who cares if I get banned on this account I have three more" is the charge money for the game upfront. It would fix a crap ton of problems.

no ti would not, league became as popular as it is because of its F2P model and its esports wouldn't be as great as it is without that in place. league would only be closing off potential new players by doing that and solving no problems as all because ( this might be a shock ) people will still buy accounts even if it costs them ) not all people are so desperate for money that cant spend anything on league ( which is why people own so many skins) and if you look at other games people have bought multiple copys to smurf / hack / troll. on top of which there is no real problem with owning multiple accounts. getting an account perma'd is serious what ever you have on that account is lost and if you have to level a new one that could possibly take a month or so depending on your lifestyle. not to mention having to rebuy all your champs and skins. not a lot of people are willing to put in that effort and if they do probably wont be as toxic. unless they go against the ToS and buy a level 30 unranked account but then your argument about people having to buy an account will be invalidated if they did that.
