Soraka doesn't see a lot of play...

I thought she was reworked so she could safely see more play in the game and be an LCS pick. However right now she has a pick rate that's below 4% almost never banned because no one cares about her. So people aren't picking her and they aren't banning her either. I mean you could justify banning someone like Janna, Morgana, or maybe Annie (all of whom can physically prevent you from getting to the ADC) but Soraka? No way. I can't remember seeing her in the LCS since she was nerfed. I think her rework was a total failure.

-She can't trade/poke as well as sona or karma. -She's got no hard CC or useful peel which even Sona and Nami have (Soraka's E almost never snares rendering it useless as peel) -She's got no kill potential like leona -She's got no grabs like blitz/thresh -Her heals make her run back to base (not fun gameplay at all) -She's got no mana gift anymore -Her Qs are easily dodged and drain too much mana. -It really sucks to die while seeing the heals from your Q come back to you -She can't build Nashor's or LB for bigger bananas -Despite being a healer her self sustain in lane is weak to none, esp if the enemies are smart enough to dodge, on top of killing herself with her heals. -Everyone who plays MtG knows healing by itself isn't very good in general. -She's an oldschool mage in that she has zero mobility... just about everyone else with a heal that works on teammates has some form of mobility. Taric has a stun to compensate and Ali has CC and knockback. -But she's not a mage anymore so she doesn't even have firepower either

Perhaps it is she isn't that fun enough or useful enough to play anymore?

TL/DR please add more fun back into her kit

As I recall, Soraka did not see much play before this sad attempt at a rework, which makes me wonder why they did it in the first place. You and I are, however, fighting a lost battle: since neither Soraka got much play, we don't have the weight of numbers behind us when we look for the return of the true sustain mage Soraka (not that Riot would listen even if we had the entire community agreeing with us).

She saw some play, then people realized she was OP because riot screwed her up in the beginning of season 4 so she got a lot of play, then riot overnerfed her, specifically her mana costs. The sad thing is her mana costs are still too high for a support.

Overall, her new kit is a lot more engaging than the old one, save for the fact that her only innate self-sustain requires hitting enemy champions.

IMO, her passive should be replaced with something that helps her out of combat sustain.

Getting back the base AD they took from her would also help a bit I think.

I don't think she's better off overall for the engagement though and riot gave her too much room for the other players to counterplay while giving her too little power/utility for it. Running back to base every time you press W might be engaging, but it certainly isn't fun.

I agree she needs a better passive. I wish it was a healing aura or %missing hp/5.

I kind of agree, even though her W isn't that hard as long as you manage it properly, hit your Qs and do other stuff to mitigate like use your R (and bring along Heal, build Mikael's Crucible, etc).

The real hard part is that she's in a special club with Janna (and maybe a few others, I'm not familiar with over half the champion pool) of having a passive which you have no control over the benefit of (Janna's worse off since she's as far as I can tell from a brief look at the wiki, the only champion who doesn't benefit at all from her own passive).

Coupled with being really squishy and the zone control on her Q not being good enough for its range and variable delay (which is still a bitch to time when you're aiming close to yourself even if they gave it a stealth buff to be easier to hit with at range).

A good start would be having epic monsters (dragon, baron, wilemaw) count as at least one champion (meaning you only get the benefit if you don't hit any enemies) for her Q heals and have any number of minions and monsters heal for half as much.

A better start would be to scrap her passive and try to figure out an interesting way for her to regain health outside of combat.

I still find her really fun to play. May not be as useful in higher elos but below that she's s safe pick.

Kind of messed up that nid with CDR is a more effective single target healer while coming with crazy good damage and visibility traps. Taric's is pretty nice as well with it's scaling at max CDR. Slightly longer CDs but doesn't kill you while using them.

Honestly, I'd keep the heal the same but make her Q and E more useful. E's cooldown is a bit long considering anyone can leave it before the root takes place. The slow on Q is also very easy to dodge. Considering we have champs that have instant CC on 2-3 abilities, some with CC in their passive plus their abilities, and roots aren't even that powerful... it's not too much ask for a buff so make these two spells a bit more useful.
