Morde Rework

Hi all I was thinking about making another Morde Rework, this time I has thinking about summing up the issues about him and what to do in order to improve him. I am(or was) a morde player but since his rework can't play him anymore because he is trash QQ, but I still love the Iron Revenant and he definitely needs some love, So I was thinking about summing up the issue he faces:

  • Too Slow: Look I understand that Juggernauts are meant to be slow moving or at least immobile machines of death but Morde is too damn slow, the other jugges have better baseline Movement speed, Darius, Yorick, Illaoi, Garen etc, have 340-345 movement speed which makes it unfair for mordekaiser to be at 325.

  • Too Squishy and poor Item synergy: Morde is too reliant on items to be effective and his defensive stats are abysmal, seriously abysmal. most Juggs without armor either through baseline stats, or through their kit can get around 92-102 armor and have over 2000 HP morde has 1766 HP and 83 armor at Lv 18 which is pathetic, even if he does have a shield it's based on his max hp so even if he does get a lot of items, he is in dire straits because he needs to balance between damage and defense.

  • Confusing and ineffective Itemization: Morde now has some AD scaling but it's confusing to itemize him, pre rework he at least had a clear offensive build which was to build him as a tanky mage but now he messed up AD/AP hybrid that just confuses new players of him and hard to play even as a pro. even if he gets it right, he just doesn't get enough bang for his buck.

  • Dragon ghost: Either he should become a jungler, or else he should have it removed because he is not a bot laner, he should never be there in the first place.

So anyway here are the solutions on how I think that morde could be fixed.

  • Make him a AD powered Magic damage dealer: Look I know I will ruffle some jimmies here but here me out. AP Items are not really effective on Morde anymore, both due to changes and because Morde is meant to be a jugg. so making him AD powered is key to making him successful.

  • Add a stun on his Q and a slow on his E: Morde has no CC and in League if you want to be effective you need some CC to make tactical and strategic plays, and Morde is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery dependant on Rylai's. so as to make him less dependent on Items. Make so his Q's third stuns for 1 second + 0.5 per prior hit for up to 2 seconds stun, while his E should slow for 30% + 5% per rank.

  • Remove the Exp Bonus, lower the speed boost and un-rework his W, Morde needs something that makes him a defensive beast and not something that circumvent his weakness of hurting himself to use his abilities, Creeping death has some good utility of adding defense and protecting his target with resistances and damage while bringing him and his ally closer to each other.

  • buff up his defensive stats and movement speed: Morde is in dire need of some stats buffs, HIs speed needs to be up to the same level as the other juggs, hell even upping it to 335 would be fine as he wouldn't be too slow and considering the speed boost of his W that could be fair level of speed to have. His defensive stats should be at least up to 1950-2100 having it a bit below 2000 would be justified since he does have a shield.

Anyway I hope that this was accurate and some of this would be implemented by riot because they don't even know how to fix morde. or if anyone else have a better idea on how to fix him, I would be glad to talk about it here.

Peace.

Long time Morde main here.

I agree with buffing his MS just a little. But as far as the CC goes, I'm actually okay with him not having any, as long as he has the damage to make up for it. Which he doesn't anymore. He's been hit with the nerf bat a few too many times since his rework. Granted, he needed his Q dropped, that was WAY too much.

I occasionally build him AD as it is. It does better than you might expect. Makes it really hard for your opponent to itemize against you.

I've had a couple of ideas to rework Morde as well, both changes involve toying around with his passive.

One idea was changing his shield from unique to mana. Functions exactly the same, but allows him to benefit from AP items a little more.

Other idea will require a full VGU, but I think it would be cool to have his armor in his model change based on % of his shield. The less shield he has, the more he resembles black mist. The more shield he has, the more armor he packs on. The effect would essentially do this; if his shield is low, he isn't slowed down by all that armor, so he's faster. The more shield he has, the slower he moves, but gains a boost to armor. I need to flesh this one out better, but I feel like it has potential to work really well.

That would be pretty nice, actually similar to Zac's passive. But I'd don't know how well it would be with the weight mechanic. it would allow him to the F out of dodge but at the same him he would be vulnerable to getting jumped. I don't think what would really fit with being a jugg as they are meant to be tough as hell.

The lack of CC is sadly a no-no because Rylai's is key on morde so baking some CC into his Kit is needed.

But, thematically that would awesome to see morde kicking ass as in his black mist form and getting ultra armored.

Honestly, before his rework, almost nobody built Ryleis on him. He didn't have an MS boost or CC then either. He was just more tanky, and did more damage than he does currently.

That's why I was saying, he really should be doing a little bit more damage to make up for the fact he doesn't have CC or Mobility. Or, he should be tankier. Or both.

Tl;dr Riot fucked up his rework.

His movespeed was scale for bot lane role they envisioned him in. He's actually not weak or trash, just requires different build and playstyle than before rework. He's less versatile now which I hate. The big problem with him as I read it is the enemy team can too easily kite him despite having rylai's. Because they can kite him and he doesn't have the same level of tankiness as other bruiser/juggernauts and he can't 1-shot anyone (like before the rework) unless extremely snowballed he is too easy to play around/too frustrating to play as in teamfights. I've thought for awhile now that there is getting to be too many extremely mobile champs without a tradeoff in reduced durability once caught and these are exactly the champs who make morde and other champs weaker than they otherwise would be. I'm all for champs with tons of teamfight mobility and kiting potential so long as they make a tradeoff by having reduced durability once caught. Ex: mini gnar is less durable than mega gnar, but he has more mobility, vayne and lucian are more mobile than cait but they are also shorter ranged and thus more easily INITIALLY caught

Passive is good, q needs to be swapped back to 1 hit like before rework UNLESS they give him some natural cc (not rylai's dependent) (otherwise people just kite out your q and using it on minions is kind of a waste), w is ok i guess (i prefer the resistance stats it gave before the rework), e is whatever (they could add a slow/stun here as you suggest), ult is same as before rework just with added pet drag.

Making a slow lumbering melee a marksman is show the level of logic CertainlyT has. But going with your point. I don't think it was wise to ever have a jugg down bot lane as it disrupted the meta too much but with the pro's outweighing the cons. morde suffering from it did less damage to it want have it revolve entirely around him. I think that as you said, versatility is a major issue for him and I agree in terms of itemization as he is all over the place now and why I believe that making him an AD based magic damage dealer would be needed in order to bring morde back into the juggernaut fold. alongside Illaoi and Darius.

Because of his poor speed, scaling and defensive stats, morde is kitable and weak with shitty Itemasation as he needs X Items while lacking the durability needed to stay in the fight, even if he does deal good damage to fuel his shield.

Most Juggs build something likeitem 3742 item 3143,( item 3078 /item 3071), item 3065,( item 3053/item 3156),(item 3748 item 3074) with boost of selection. giving them around 3500-4500 HP and around 225 armor and 200 MR based on what they are building.

While Morde Builds like a tanky Diana, but without any of any the mobility ending up with only around 2800 HP, 150 armor and 100 Mr. that is fucking pathetic.

Oh I entirely agree they need to fix him and that he is too kiteable even with rylai's. And yes, he is in an awkward state of not enough tank stats or not enough damage unless you snowball on him. Trust me, I 100% wish we could just have the old q, w back and old movespeed -- keep the pet dragon maybe, but the rest can go.

I just want to respond to this:

I agree with him being too slow, and forced to get rylais every game. It's really annoying. However, his ad scaling a are based of total ad, and he has the highest base ad in the game at lvl 18, so it buffs his damage if you are going ap. His dragon ghost is extremely strong and promotes roaming. His dragon ghost should definitely be kept, as it provides a huge amount of positive affects.

I agree with changing him to ad. This will buff his tank capabilities by a huge amount. I think your cc idea is really good. It solves most of his issues regarding getting to people and sticking on top of them. Your piece on stats is also a very good fix to it. I just have to address his w though. It is one of the best utility spells in the game. It acts as a Janna passive, which works very well if you put it on a minion then flank the enemy laner. It also works as a way to cs with almost no trouble at all, due to dot. Lastly, the heal is invaluable in lane.

DragonShea1 votes

Well I was thinking that removing the heal would be something that I think should be done as he feel the cost of his self damage abilities, instead of have an ability where he can subvert some of his weaknesses, heck even remove the movement speed boost from his W so that it just becomes defense enhancing AoE attack.

old morde: hextech revolver (spell vamp included) into thornmail = enemy ad top + jungle can't touch you. They 2v1 all in you lvl 6... you thank their jungler for double buffs as enemy top runs in fear. Doesn't matter if they were caster based or aa based toplaner -- beats trynd and riven type champs alike. Can't do that with the new kit.

Wota, thornmail, sorc/tabi/merc boots of choice, spirit visage, liandri's, 5th item of choice (rylai's, void, ga, abyassal, etc.). This build can't happen even if wota was in game due to reworked q, w. It made tank ekko look like a sheet of paper. Seriously when you 1v3 a lvl 18 FED zed who ults and ignites you, a malphite full combo, and a double buff "godyr" build udyr and watch them all run away from you at low hp cuz they don't want to die... that was the life. When you could build like a real bruiser/tank and have an ahri ambush you from the flank when pushing mid inhib tower, throw out 2 spells, then run into her jungle to check why she ulted away over the wall... only to find out a second later that you killed her without even getting to ult. So I'd take the old w and q over the new one any day.

DragonShea1 votes

True. he had mad sustain with spell vamp revolver, because got him as my second champ after rammus, and his durability was mad fun because he felt like a real juggernaut at the time. people know that they needed to stay the fuck away from you or else they would be ruined and their souls would become your bitch. and you needed to 2v1 him unless you had someone like Darius around to trade blows with morde.

Personally I wish we got the old W back because it was awesome, His Q I am in the mix. It's good but i like the insane single target damage since he got ok AoE with his E.
