So I've been trying to climb in ranked and I can play every role decently. Except for mid. I have never been able to carry a game mid. Every other role I have the potential to completely out perform the enemy team where you would consider it a carry except for mid. What are some good mid carries? (Preferably mages as I have several assassins already)

He can out push anyone. His DOTs take anyone at lower elo by surprise. His ultimate suppression wipes the floor with anyone because lower elo carries won't build a QSS.
His only weakness is lack of mobility meaning he's easy to gank. First, if they don't pick an early gank jungler you won Lane. Second, you push so fast you can just clear the wave then go back to turret without any risk (you can go back before they all die even and your dots and voidlings will finish the wave).
Coming from someone who dreads playing against Malzahar but doesn't yet play him.
Oh, and I think he has the highest win rate of all mid laners other than heimerdinger.

On patch 5.3 in Plat+ across all regions, his win rate is 6th for mid lane.
Top 5 from highest to lowest are 
Kennen and Heimy have pretty low play rates though (Morgana is just slightly below average, Malz just slightly above, Annie is about twice the average and Kat is a bit less than 3 times the average)

I assumed he was silver-gold as most of these threads are. I'm also not sure how they're confident those Annie and Morgana are mid and not support... (Perhaps running ignite on them as support has a good success rate). Kennen is also played top as well so the same argument applies.
Katarina is an assassin and not a mage so not what he asked for (she also just got nerfed). I mentioned heimerdinger being higher.

Lanes are determined by the Riot API, which is mostly based on frequent locations early in the game.

Once you get your zhonyas/cdr boots/ will of ancients you can 1v3. Come late game with 6item build you can 1v5 no problem. and not to mention he is the fastest pusher in the game besides Sivir. All you have to do to wave clear is press E twice and its gone if they are within range of you.

Besides what others have been suggesting, I think Viktor is a pretty cool champion if you learn how to play him. Vel'Koz and Zyra are pretty underrated imo. Karthus ult still does what it does, lol, he's seriously powerful. And of course you can always just play whatever pros are playing.
In all seriousness though, if you're just looking to climb, just stick to the roles you know best, and if you have to fill mid, have like, one champion that you know really well that you can play mid (it doesn't even have to be a 'traditional' mid laner; Mid is one of the more flexible roles in the game in terms of what champions you can play, you just need to know how to actually play them and play your match ups).
