@Riot: Will Kassadin Be Reworked in the Assassin Update?

As someone who is a fan of the champ and his overall design, I feel like he is in a really weird place, and in need of a rework, or at least some major tweaking. He plays like the current Katarina; snowball champion with an abysmal laning phase, jumps into a fight and cleans up then jumps out, can 'one-shot' squishier champs if ahead, little to no utility. Except many people play Katarina, but only a very small group of people play Kassadin. I would say I haven't seen one in my last 100 games. Whereas I see Katarina every 5 games or so. So obviously he has something about him that is making people not want to play him.

My point is, if we're going to be seeing reworks on the other Assassin Mages like Kat and LeBlanc, will Kassadin be touched? And if so what sorts of changes?

No current plans for Kassadin, his balance is still a bit fragile, but he's in one of the best states he's ever been.

In terms of which assassins will be getting smaller updates we'll have a post up about that, plus a few other associated details, sometime this week.

Tanks might actually be getting the next roster update. Other rioters have said in the past that it's probably either tanks (specifically vanguards) or divers.

I seem to remember the tank-item system being in particular need of an overhaul is one of the reasons tanks are strong contenders for a roster update.

That would make him underpowered. His ult should have no cast time or cooldown as compensation.

True but that's not saying much. He hasn't actually been in a "good" state for ages. By good, I mean being talked about in the same sentence as Viktor, Ahri, Vel'Koz, Brand, Cass, etc. His damage feels so low until 4+ items. Why take such a risky pick when you can get on the backline with a Viktor ult. and one shot the ADC while also having waveclear and a good lane phase? Or you can pick Cass and just go through the frontline to the backline. Kass needs either higher bases (risky balancewise) or a bit higher AP ratios somehow or mabye CDR/lvl as a passive. Alternatively, his ult. can cost a tiny bit less so it doesn't become 800 mana. His W passive could certainly benefit from more than 10%. Riftwalk is nice but a ranged champion has a 500+ level of influence even without having to be melee.

Outside of a few niche matchups where he performs fine, such as vs Ahri, I don't think he's worth picking in any comp. I'm not saying he's not viable, just that if you had a choice of any champion and had the skill to play any champion, you'd almost never pick Kassadin. To be fair, I could say the same for Ziggs and many other champions. Although, at least Ziggs tends to do well vs the new assassins like Katarina but so does Ahri, so does VIktor etc. I think the new assassins outside of Rengar & Kha (scary), are probably on the weak side but it might be inexperience too.
