Assassins dont need delayed burst

But weaker burst followed up with sustained damage that is effective vs squishies targets that is weaker the more durable the target is. IMO it solves issue of assassins one shotting carries without counter play but still gives squishy targets a (minor) fighting chance in a situation that still favors assassins the more out of position a target is.

Ideally a somewhere between 60-70 percent burst with the sustained damage being the rest.

Assassins dont need delayed burst

See, after Zed Riot stopped releasing assassins AT ALL (Ekko is a skirmisher) for like 4 years, and now that delayed burst pattern became standard, we got two new assassins, Kayn and new Eve, both with delayed burst.

So quite clearly they are happy with results of delaying burst.

Doesnt really address the problem. The problem is that '60-70 percent burst' turns into like 20% after you factor in healing/shielding/lifesteal.

I'm trying to fix the fundamental dilemma that is a constant balance issue with so that they can still be relevant to the game without one kill making them instant murder machines to anyone without resistances. The shielding and healing stuff is another issue.

But it doesnt fix the fundamental problems. The healing/shelding is not "another issue" because it has a direct impact on the issue youre discussing

They are related but gameplay wise but I'm trying to address the basic bare bone concept of an assassin without taking into account other influences yet

That's a diver fighting pattern. Jarvan, Vi, Camille, Irelia, Hecarim, etc. They have an initial burst, but they also have a pretty good amount of DPS combined with durability that allows them to DPS.

You can't give DPS to a champion without also giving them some way to survive while pumping out DPS. For fighters that's durability, for ADCs/DPS mages that's range, and for skirmishers it's their situational defense (Like Fiora parry, Master Yi's invulnerability, etc.) and mobility. Assassins are supposed to burst then get out, and hang around until they can do more damage safely.

I think the potential key difference between a diver and assassin (who have many similarities) is that assassins would specialize in eliminating squishy targets far more effectively than divers with divers damage output having similar effectiveness vs tanks and squishies (not great or weak vs either) while assassins damage is more effective than usual the less durable a target is.
