What Do I Do When My Wifi Breaks Down?

Leaverbuster punishes you for AFK no matter what, and that's honestly the best way to avoid people abusing the system and escaping punishment. You also lose LP no matter why you never got to play the game. But on the off chance that I am rendered physically incapable of playing the game by elements out of my control, I really do feel helpless. Maybe I don't deserve to play the game with a shitty internet, but that doesn't mean the people matched with me also deserve losses in LP. Riot, if you don't fix this for people like me, at least do SOMETHING for people like my teammates--the damage done to them is completely uncalled for. Besides, isn't the real life American justice system about often times giving up on punishing "the bad guy" to assure that no innocent person will ever be mistreated? Even if a "loss prevented" for a team with an AFK can be abuse, then there's still that one person taking the loss. I think it should be up to the community to decide whether they want to let five man premades sacrifice one account to get out of losses, or punish every solo and duo players who gets matched with someone with my kind of internet. PS: As of me posting this, my home wifi is still completely and utterly broken. I am putting this up with the school wifi.

Edit: My wifi's been fine for the last 3 months. I say it's shit because I get a spike of lag every other game, but I've always assumed that it's because the server moved away from California.

They specifically say you should have a reliable connection to play league

Riots answer to your situation is that you should either get new Internet or not play.

It HAD been reliable for the past 3 months. Nothing but a 2 second spike every other game. And then it just died.

Then figure out what's wrong before you play more ranked.

It's forgivable if it happens the first few times, but once you identify it as a chronic problem it's your responsibility to fix it before you play again.

I used to think that my lag spikes were because the server moved to away from California, since it increased my static ping by like 30. I mean, our router had issues in the past that were fixed, and I didn't know that whatever the issue was would come back that day, that time, the moment I went into a ranked. I also think that it's a little demanding to have to know how to work and fix a uncooperative router just to have the rights to play ranked.

Only fools play over WiFi

Perhaps, leavebuster shouldn't punish anyone because there is no sound way to detect abusers vs genuine issues like yours.

He is an abuser, albeit not a malicious one. He shouldn't be playing League without getting an internet setup that is reliable.

@OP, what is your internet setup? is there a way for you to get a hard connection to your modem instead of wireless?

I have no idea how to answer any of these questions you asked...I'm pretty much clueless in terms of wifi setups, and I only know that the last time we saw anything remotely close to this kind of disconnection was over 3 months ago.

What he was asking was is there anyway to put a direct line (such as an Ethernet cable) to your computer, rather then using the wifi?

I think, but I'll have to turn our house upside down to find it. Also, my laptop's usually in my room, on the second floor, and the router's on the first...

linkmastr0011 votes

Hmm... If it's a floor away, you likely wouldn't be able to (since you'd need a really long cable, since you should be plugged into the router). Is it practical to play on the first floor closer to the router?

It also might need to be restarted if it hasn't been in a while.

Also, while testing your connection you could always try your own custom private game or a bot game to ensure you have a good connection. I don't think LeaverBuster flags you there (not sure 100%), but I don't think people care if someone d/cs in a bot game (I can't speak for everyone, but I don't at least) If they're actively trying to come back.

I would be pretty inconvenient since the router is in the book room, where my little brother uses the desktop computer...Also all the plugs nearby are used already.

Furthermore, I actually I just played a game before going into ranked and it was perfectly fine except for one or two lag spikes, which happen literally every single game. In fact, the wifi still isn't fixed right now--we actually had to get a temporary new router to even access our emails.

I suppose I was clear. I meant that you could try just playing in the room with your desktop computer, using Wifi. Your Wifi reception can be hindered by distance and walls. So just playing in the same room, or a closer room, to it could help with that. (I am assuming the problem here is that information is being "lost" between the router and your laptop, if the problem you're experience isn't that, this won't help). Not saying it's guaranteed, just that it might help.

That said, if it's so bad that you had to get a new router, it might be best to hold off until your connection is more stable, I'm afraid :(

No the actual router was the problem. The wifi part of it was flashing orange lights for the entire duration that our wifi was down. Our computers still had 4 bars connection, we just couldn't do anything with the wifi at all. Websites won't load, client won't even start, etc etc.

Get better net? lol

That's not something out of your control especially if you know you have shit interner. I had shitty wi-fi before too and I never touched ranked. If I played it was with premade in normals.

The thing is my wifi was OK for a long time, which is why I even bothered to start ranked. You can see from my matches that I started my climb much later, because I didn't trust my connection or my skill until recently. Turns out, I still can't. The first time in 3 months my wifi does this shit, and it's in a ranked game.
