Should Poppy be the only one with an anti-dash field?

I think a Support Champion with the ability to place down an anti-dash field at a target location would make for some neat utility. But would that be a case of "That's inappropriate"?

Cassiopeia she has an anti dash field

Honestly surprised we haven't seen more usage of the grounded effect.

Jeddy0172 votes

I guess they haven't found the right champ to give it to. Or maybe they did & that champ isn't out yet.

JarvanIV His ult should ground the primary target.

chipndip11 votes

Reduce its damage some and give it that effect. So that Vayne can't just insta-tumble and beat his shit in.

Skins Project1 votes

Or just condem him into his own walls lol

Jeddy0174 votes

I could see that working, but then his ult will have to lose some damage (against the primary target at least).

That's the thing with adding grounded to existing champs without a rework. You have to take power from somewhere else in the kit to make up for the addition of this new mechanic. I remember when people said Viktor's W should get grounded effect. That shit already slows/stuns you & people wanted it to ground too? If he got grounded, he's either losing the slow part, the stun part or both parts are just straight up nerfed. That's probably why we haven't seen ground added to other champs. The champs will have to take hits in areas of their kits to make room for grounded or else they might be too strong. And I know for a fact, people will be very salty that their champs are changed for some mechanic they probably didn't think their champ need. This is probably why grounded isn't being added to a bunch of champs. Riot probably just saving it for reworks or new champs.

Golden Tager X1 votes

You could reduce the primary damage by about 15% make it deal half to secondaries, but have it shove them outside the ult so it becomes more of an arena and not a teamtrap.

So more like Camille ultimate?

Golden Tager X1 votes

yeah, that is actually closer to what is was originally designed to be, back when not everyone had some form of a dash/flash in their kit.

50000000000000001 votes

Isn't it suppressed to hold enemy grouped up so your team's AoE can decimate them?

So Camille lol

Because it's pretty cancerous.

I agree. Seems like the best way to counter mobility creep is by granting champions ways to directly counter it outside of point and click cc that is just as strong against immoblie champions. Of course this would have to be implemented differently to poppy shield but its definitely a good idea.

Poppy works incredibly well as a support against hard engage champs like Leona/Thresh /Alistar or shutting down mobile adc's Lucian Vayne Kalista Corki

And don't even get me started on how wonderful it is to cockblock a LeeSin trying to go for early botlane cheese

she cucks kalista extremely hard [zombie-nunu-bummed]

Well, for her first auto attack, anyways.

Baron of Bread1 votes

It's usually enough, especially when she doesn't have much AS yet.

Love playing support Poppy into Thresh! Oh, you thought you would just ride his little Lantern to safety? How about no?

Same thing with Bard - just knock them out of their magical journey halfway through.

Janna I dare you to dash. I DARE YOU.

Zac charges up his slingshot Janna that's cute

I think it would need to require being weaker in some form, given that Poppy can only do it from melee

but no, it wouldn't be unreasonable to offer more anti-mobility

darkdill1 votes

I think a zone that requires some wind-up before it activates (like Veigar's E) would be appropriate. It wouldn't be as instantaneous as Poppy's W, so it won't save you if Jax is already leaping at you.

4th3t0s1 votes

The problem with this is it takes away a defining part of Veigar's niche, and we already have a linear wall with Azir's ult.

I'm not against counterplay to mobility creep, but if you make defining parts of Champions kits more common, you devalue the reason for picking them in the first place

Heroquet2 votes

Problem is that many, many, maaaanyyyyy abilities that could be awesome on supports are put on other classes. Kalista's ultimate, Yasuo windwall, Ryze Ult (i mean glorified Tahm's ult), Poppy aoe anti-dash and ult, Cass line of grounded, Veigar cage, Fiora's ult (could be a "GO KILL ME THIS" on an offensive-buffer support, procable by allies only), Camille's ult (the ultimate lockdown, without aa buffs for the user), Yorick's ring, Anivia's wall, Azir's ult and so on.

None of these champs are picked specifically for that (they almost all do crazy high damage), but it's great utility. Trundle has been a support pick for a while partly thanks to his pillar (the difference between a good Trundle and a great Trundle) (yeah, his anti-tank ult was the point).

But supports have none of that cheating power. The closest thing we have is the lantern, equinox, unbreakable and... Tahm's ult maybe.

But better nerf bases shields / damage of the enchanters, yeah.

50000000000000001 votes

Ryze ultimate is strong in that you can move channeling allies and minions. No other abilities in the game can do that.

Aptest2 votes

I would be pretty happy about such a thing as long as it functions also VS teleports and dashes that have invulnerability frames on them (zed, maokai, fizz)

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

you forgot Cassiopeia

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

doesnt cassiopeia do that. also poppy is a good support into thresh very good. or other melees she does really well. for example taric u can ult him if he tries to ult team. very good into taric as well. just don't pick her against melees or braum

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Into other melee's she does well, but don't pick her against melee's....

sta supra1 votes

while poppy isn't the only one with anti dash area's (taliyah, and cass come to me first) i do agree that a support champion that was more of a control mage that could do this and it seems like an interesting idea

Jeddy0171 votes

Well, Tali doesn't stop dashes. She just punish a champ for uses them. I do believe the topic of this thread is mechanics that complete stop or prevents mobility spells.

Kiharon1 votes

Not instant, and not your typical support champion, but Veigar. His field is the most similar to Poppy's, stopping dashes once it spawns, and is ranged. It also has the bonus of keeping them from walking out as well, which Poppy does not have.

ModMaybeFiftyOtters1 votes

Taliyah can be played support and has a damage if you dash field but I like what you're getting at

Niaphim2 votes

Taliyah's field is actually more effective against immobile champions, because it slows, so dashes become the most effective way to get to safety. Then you can use her knockup on W to force them to take damage and continue your combo. This means, mobile champions lose some health and escape, while immobile champions lose their life.

Snowman Arc1 votes

Poppy can be utilized as a support. Like, not the clear-cut support like Taric or Janna, but a CC tanky support.

Azir Cassiopeia Poppy Camille Veigar

darkdill1 votes

I'm more thinking that whole "try to dash, get popped up" thing. Only ones with that are Poppy and Azir.

Nechronia1 votes

I think a gravity themed champion based on countering high mobility would be pretty cool.

Incarceration1 votes

That would be cool.

Anonagon1 votes

I don't think there's much room for additon anti-dash zones in the game, considering there are four variants of it in the game already (Poppy, Cass, Veigar, and Taliyah). These champions already cover the enter spectrum of types of champion this type of ability would be appropriate on - a peeler (Poppy), immobile low/mid-range damage dealers (Cass for dps, Veigar for burst), and a zone control mage (Taliyah). An offensively oriented squishy support with that kind of ability would tread on Taliyah, while a peeler would tread on Poppy.

EDIT: there's another variant I forgot about. Azir ult! That champion exists!

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

I can't really count Taliyah since it doesn't really stop the use of dashes or flashes.

Anonagon1 votes

Even if it doesn't directly stop dashes, it is an ability in the space of anti-dash fields, and a more direct anti-dash field on a similar champion (any squishy offensive control mage or support) would take away from taliyah's identity and unique strengths.

Irelia Bot1 votes

Well there is also Azir's ult

Anonagon1 votes

did you not see the edit?

Irelia Bot1 votes

I guess I did not

Try adding shiny things around it and I will be more likely to notice next time

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Noxian support, who makes a wall that dashes can't go through. Everytime someone tries, she calls out "That's a wall stupid".

Irelia Bot1 votes

But we already have support Cass who has an anti mobility field.

We don't need another one.
