Are lopsided games the result of poor matchmaking or a necessary evil of the system?

Should extremely one sided games be considered a failure of the matchmaking system or is it simply a necessary evil as the system flexes it's muscle to enforce 50/50 win-loss states?

No it's because the games are very snowbally and two equally skilled players can start to chain feed if one gets an advantage (like a gank, or a mechanical outplay, or a very close 1v1 death).

Not to mention you only play normals.

Neither, it is a reflection of the meta we are in. Note that the skill level of the players in any given game are always the same, games are simply one-sided because we are in a hypersnowball meta. Matchmaking's job is just to make sure the games are even at the start, it does not determine how games between two equally skilled teams play out.
