Riot says they don't want Sightstone to be an item supports need? Here's an idea on how to fix it.

We already have the technology to scope out which characters went into which lane and how well they did, so why not, by the 8-10 minute mark, take note of which characters went into which lane, what their item picks look like, and what kind of CS they have, and then give them a "secondary"-type trinket that functions exactly like Sightstone does?

Or have different ward mechanics to make it actually interesting?

Kalista's ghosts are more fun than sightstone for crying out loud.

But what they want to do is remove Sightstone being a mandatory Support item to open up more players playing support and feeling empowered by doing so.

Using different ward mechanics won't solve that problem, I don't think.

Vision is always going to be a staple of the support role, as much as we hate it. Either they remove it completely and don't add anything back, which will likely piss many people off, or they can revamp warding to make it engaging and interesting.

There's been dozens and dozens of threads suggesting changes to vision. Vision, even for the support role, isn't bad. Sightstone is just boring and arguably overpowered a bit (800 gold mandatory item). Sentries, motion detectors, etc etc. The technology is there to make vision interesting, but all the good stuff is hoarded by the non-support champions rather than support itemization.

Boring to use and a waste of an item slot? Sounds like this thread idea is the idea for you!

More bullshit building paths into more items.

? This removes any sightstone building path at all.

No, it is not Riot saying that. It is the opinion of one developer, Maple Nectar.
