Essence Reaver Rework Ideas

So currently as we all know Essence Reaver is currently a gimmicky item choice for people who cannot manage their mana and is a vastly inferior choice to bloodthirster for 80 AD and life steal.

Currently it builds out of b.f. Sword and vamp scepter.

Let's talk about WHY someone would choose essence reaver over another item (what makes it unique?)

1.) mana sustain from autos for ability spam 2.) CDR on a high dmg item

So knowing that, I have some ideas to rework the item while keeping its identity. I want to point out what I feel is the items biggest issue....

BUILD PATH

It's build path leaves you waiting until you complete the item to benefit from its unique identity even slightly. Sure you get life steal but why not just go BT if you want that? You get no CDR, no mana help, nothing. So here is a new build path idea and I want to know what people think about it?

BUILD PATH

1.) Brutalizer (25 AD, 10 armor pen, 10% CDR) - 1337g 2.) Pickaxe (25 AD) - 875g 3.) NEW ITEM - builds out of long sword/mana crystal - 850g (90 combine cost) (15 AD, 200 mana) Unique Passive(unnamed): Gain 3 mana per auto attack, doubled against enemy champions

Builds into Essence Reaver:

Total Cost= 3500 65 AD 20% CDR 15 Armor Pen 300 mana Unique Passive: Basic attacks restore between 2% and 8% of the physical damage dealt as mana, based on your missing mana. (same as live, lose previous passive when upgraded)

REMOVED: lifesteal

Thoughts on this for me are that this significantly buffs the items identity while making sure it is not overpowered by not giving it lifesteal. The armor pen helps make it feel more than just a mana gimmick, while 20% CDR makes it much more enticing to AD casters like urgot, Lucian, etc. Having the passive available right out of the gate for easy to buy items in lane phase make it something you can get the part for now and finish later if you want help spamming.

Comment below on your thoughts and any interesting ideas you may have yourself!

Why does everyone want 80 AD and 15 Armor Pen? Nerf these numbers a little, and I think we have a decent item.

Maybe something more along the lines of 70 AD? Or keep flat 10 armor pen?

Someone suggested 50 AD and 10 armor pen, which I think is pretty reasonable. Armor pen is an anti-squishy stat, and having 50 AD should still do more damage than having a bloodthirster.

I'd say keep essence reavers current passive as well, this one is literally going to give aids to someone with how powerful it is. just a comparison Chalice restores 2% missing mana every 5 seconds, and it's a crapton already. Putting it on someone who will eventually auto 1-2 times a second, that's like giving them 8-14% (severe rounding here as there's a lot of variables running around) of their missing mana in the same amount of time that a mid laner gets 2%. But I love the way the build is going, this item is really good for any ad casters like corki or ez (who were the original intended targets for ER in the first place -.-).

ok, that makes sense. I wasn't thinking hard I guess when I posted that. I just thought it would be a cool way to make the mana regen less dependent on how much AD you did. but yeah it would make spamming absolute cancer. hell it would make urgot cancer. I wasn't even thinking. Ill change the post to the current one. thank you for pointing that out.

50 ad seems a tad bit low for an item that could viable for both an adc and a top laner. I do see now that maybe 80-70 ad is too much though as it would become core on people like riven even with the wasted mana passive as the armor pen would be too much. I think maybe 60 is reasonable as it is a high dmg item but not top tier which is ok because like you said, it has the armor pen.

I'm thinking Jinx would love ER just because she'd rarely have to switch to her miniguns with it.

The minigun attack speed is really useful, actually. But being able to build Runaan's for massive AoE damage would be nice too.
