@Meddler, can we give Bruisers more incentive to invest into the Resolve tree

Malicious Metal··26 votes·1,333 views

So with the new PBE update most Resolve Keystones are fitted for support-type champions You get Courage of the Colossus who only triggers on HARD CC You get Bond of Stone, which is a support-only mastery

and you get Grasp, which, let's be honest, isn't that great anymore, especially on certain champions who have very low max hp despite being bruisery-types (Mordekaiser Shen ) our champions who don't tend to AA that often like Garen

With SotA you actually had a way to get some more mid-late game scaling with a way to beef up your champion and be able to maybe invest in some damage items early but with it getting scrapped you're pretty much screwed if you're a Juggernaut/Bruiser/Diver and want to invest into the Resolve tree.

Why do we even have to have a mastery catering entirely to the tanky supports? It's way too specific to fill up an entire KEYSTONE slot on a TANKY tree. As a support you even have the choice to go TLD/Windspeakers/Grasp/Courage but many Bruisers would want to get the slow resist, healing, tenacity and actually a decent keystone out of the Resolve tree.

So why exactly are we making the resolve tree even more specific rather than giving the more damage focused kind of melee characters some mastery?

You have your sustain in grasp Your utility/durability with courage

So how about we get something that benefits champions that duke it out in the midst of battle?

What the hell makes you think that Courage of the Colossus is for tanky supports? Literally every tank with hard CC is going to use this mastery.Gnar Gragas Hecarim JarvanIV Malphite Maokai Nautilus Poppy Rammus RekSai Sejuani Shen Sion Singed Skarner Udyr Udyr Udyr Volibear Warwick XinZhao Zac .

Singed if you play him without DFT, you're doing it wrong.

I assume he's talking about Bond of Stone

Udyr and Volibear have to reach their target before they can use it.

Also, you're forgetting the tanky champions that don't have hard cc: Nunu DrMundo Garen Mordekaiser Nasus Olaf Yorick

K, so then what are those champions I listed supposed to take? Which keystone?

If you play top, Garen Nasus and Yorick can probably take Grasp.

But if you're playing jungle? Nunu doesn't care about how much damage you do. Mundo would rather have more health than damage. Olaf wouldn't use Grasp very well at all.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

Mundo, Garen, and Yorick use grasp, as you said. Nunu will use Bond of Stone since he's the quintessential support jungler. Olaf will use fervor just like he does in top lane. And Nasus can choose between Grasp, Stormraiders, or Warlords.

Fawkes041 votes

So if you play Mundo jungle - which is not really uncommon - you have to decide between using a Keystone, that's suboptimal for Mundo himself, or take a Keystone that does not help you any way in the jungle at all? Oh, and notto forget, you have to chase an enemy for 4 seconds when ganking...

DunkinNoobs1 votes

To be fair, now none of the keystones help you in the jungle except for Bond of Stone and the healing one.

Fawkes041 votes

SotA at least had ANY real interaction with the Jungle, unlike the others. Fervor does not work on Camps, DFT not, Warlords does not trigger on camps. TLD does not work, same for Stormraiders and to be honest, there are no real Windspeaker-Junglers. Grasp does not proc on camps and nobody would EVER notice the difference between jungling with or without Bond of Stone in the Jungle. SotA at least gave you permanent Max HP after killing a single camp and also had a nice synergy with Cinderhulk.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

But Nunu shouldn't HAVE to use Bomd of Stone. There's a big difference between tanking and supporting and Nunu is a tank.

If I'm carefully weaving before a fight or setting up my ult I don't need to be taking extra damage because my team mates can't dodge skill shots or because they get caught out. My primary goal isn't protecting my team, it's disrupting the enemy team, and I need all of my health for that.

Jungle Mundo should not use Grasp. Mundo already has a horrible first clear, he relies on Strength of Ages to give him more health regen for his later clears.

Mundo already has a horrible first clear,

Credibility already out the window. Mundo has the fastest first clear in the game behind Nidalee. Unless, of course, you're doing it wrong.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

It is a very fast clear but it can be risky since you get low.

Subsequent clears aren't really an issue, but you can be vulnerable to invades during your first one.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

So can everyone, so I'm not sure what your point is. Hell, its speed is its own form of safety since you'll often finish a camp and be on to the next one before the enemy jungler even arrives. I've had many times where the enemy jungler invades my blue and I'm already done with blue and almost finished with wolves.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

Guess I must be doing it wrong then. It's really easy for Mundo to get low early.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

You still get low, but it doesn't matter because you clear so fast that it's impossible to invade you using conventional jungle paths. Start E, AS marks and Quints, W lvl 2, and E again at lvl 3. You can clear all 6 camps by 3:17 with this setup.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

That's with SotA though. Can you do it with Grasp?

DunkinNoobs1 votes

Absolutely.

The Freyordle1 votes

Not sure about Gnar given that mini form wouldn't be able to use the mastery at all. At least ferver and grasp can be used by both forms.

TheSingularity1 votes

I think it'd be a 25:75 split of new thing:grasp. While grasp his good early, gnar can make very very good use of this new mastery in mega form, which should be the only time he's in a situation to need it

TheSingularity1 votes

Tbh unless they can stack cc on shit tonnes of people or spam their HARD cc, they won't use this mastery.

So plz, remove; j4 poppy, rek sai, shen, singed skarner, voli, ww and xin.

I say this because this spell thrives on champs who will hit multi cc spells like naut. If his ult hit 5 people INDIVIDUALLY (not all on one go or 2 at a time) he will proc it 5 times (either stacking or refreshing it i can't remember) and it'd then be at max strength with 5 enemies around him. Then! He can still apply his passive 5 times as well as his q

Those others are mostly kiteable and they'll generally only have time for a few procs in a team fight. Thus grasp, fervor or tld would be more efficient

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

Would J4 ult and Yorick (E?) count as hard CC?

TheSingularity1 votes

Not really, as you can get out of them, or in yoricks case you can destroy it. While it does hinder their movement. Neither spell interupts channels and can be dashed/blinked out of. While all forms of hard cc can undeniably lock ppl down and interupt.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

I actually run the resolve tree on some glass cannon champs (Trynd) specifically for the anti-cc mastery, and none of the keystones are actually suited for him. Perhaps the anti-cc mastery could be buffed (I'm sure a lot of other bruisers would love that too anyway), and made into a keystone?

I use ferver on sion its much more effective on him than stupid strength of the ages. Barely used strength of the ages because of how boring it is. The other masteries you FEEL the extra power SoTA feels too much like hidden power and doesnt interest me. The only reason id ever use the resolve tree would be to get the ghost/smite summoner cooldown since those are my two favorite spells. But other than that? Grasp of the undying was nerfed, and the other support mastery is stupid to use so it doesnt grab my interest id rather use ferver. But with the new keystone thats replacing SoTA i'm definitely gonna use that one i feel. But it's going to be difficult not having ferver after using it for so long

and supports have 2 new items now. Just give them some type of mastery that allows them to place more than 3 wards/more than 2 pink wards or some shit and everyone is happy.

Spoofghoul1 votes

you never use stormraiders on sion then?

its fucking awesome on him lol

its brilliant on his passive

makes me win lane easy too W>E>Q>pop W 100% trade wins damage on you 0 damage on enemy 30+ % then you just bugger of with your movespeedboost

adc's kite too much or you can't shed them grab thornmail they attacked you 3 times? good now you can either get in their face or get away, either way you leave them in the dust

its my favorite sion keystone to use

do use sota sometimes when i go for a max hp game in which case i kinda grab hp wherever i can just to end up with like 10k for the lolz

stormraider is actually really useful in combination with sions passive.

he deals so much damage with his auto attacks in a short time, that he can often trigger it. and with something like mallet he becomes really sticky and hard to kite.

Ben Sharpio1 votes

Nah stormraiders sucks IMO. I play a considerably heavy AD style, as opposed to full tank, and its always on cooldown after i die. Better to use ferver because it deals insane damage with passive with titanic hydra. I'm already sticky by using ghost/blue smite.

Shadow Hazard1 votes

The issue is that bruisers will always all take the same fotm mastery. Right now it is fervor, but because of the extreme strength that it provides to ADC it will be nerfed in the near future Im pretty sure any buiser that can effectively stun frequently in their kit will be taking this new mastery.

Rebonack1 votes

I still think we need four capstones in each tree.

Red's thing is supposed to be hard scaling DPS and sustain. But Fervor doesn't scale and there's no sustain option for non-auto attackers.

Green's thing is increasing threat somehow through durability. Whether that be extra shields, sustain/damage, or protecting allies. Maybe a straight damage option that scales with your resist AND bonus HP? That would be pretty great for most Juggernauts/Bruisers.

Blue's thing is burst and utility. So we've got shields/heals, burst, and movespeed ON burst. I feel like some kind of capstone that SUPER buffers trinket and ward use could be an interesting option since we're lacking in vision enhancement.

Nurgle Prophet1 votes

I'm forced to disagree. Garen is a very good user of Grasp of the Undying. One of his abilities uses an autoattack and his pattern of Q - E - AA - Q - Ult give him plenty of time to stack and use Undying twice, Shen builds HP as an integral part of his kit and his damage comes solely from his autoattacks (and any potential items like Sunfire, granted), and Mordekaiser is in too bad a spot gameplay and thematic wise to have any impact on Bruiser changes.

The Bruisers have plenty of incentive to take Grasp of the Undying and benefit greatly from the resolve tree. Any more incentive and we'll see a bruiser dominance in a completely unnecessary fashion.

As for the existence of Bond of Stone, it's a niche Keystone for people who need it. All trees have it. Or should we remove Windspeakers' and Deathfire Grasp just because they cater to a small percentage of champions?

It Hertz When IP2 votes

I believe DFT actually works for a decently large champion lineup. Otherwise, I agree with you.

Rebonack1 votes

Depending on what Riot does with Fervor, there might not be any real sustained damage option for tanky folks anymore.

And that's a shame.
