She’s dubbed a psuedo-assassin but assassins don’t even get self-shields. I am starting to believe that ADCs do get some sort of favoritism
additionally: if I ban Kai’sa, I get Caitlyn. If I ban Caitlyn, I get Kai’sa. Both champions are just TOO safe with their defensive mechanics

Alex h87214 votesMore of a diver than assassin, assassin mobility is far more open ended (can be used for offense or defense), think akali shroud, zed shadows, talon wall jump kat's blink or fizz E. Where as diver's mobility (except camille because she's overloaded) is more so about going in, kai sa can only ult near enemies, so she can't truly use her ult as an escape.
plus like all adcs she explodes if locked down/focused so it gives her an extra bit of durability to outplay, or would you rather have her get more damage from her ult?

It's not super defensive, it's a death or glory ability. It's great for finishing off an opponent, or for reaching a super-safe backliner if she manages to snipe with her W. She has no real way out once she uses it. She either kills everyone, or she dies.

Ahri gets full healing off of her W's hits. Lux gets full healing off of both hits of Q. Morgana heals on all 10 R hits. Fiddle heals equally on his billion E hits, Varus heals on all R hits...
It's not an uncommon thing. Multi-target abilities are always counted as multiple single target ones. Kai'sa is just one of the first people to get DD/Gunblade and have a high damage multi-target ability (Ahri used to get Gunblade a lot, but her W and R aren't huge damage), so this is basically the first time we've seen it. And she actually doubles down on it, with Gunblade and DD seeing purchase on her.

Khristophoros1 votesIt's actually a really strong defensive ability if you're smart about how you use it so I can see where you're coming from, but I think the shield makes her less binary. I don't think it would make her a healthier champ if she was literally all or nothing. She needs nerfs but hopefully some other way that preserves her playstyle and nuances.
