So I finally fought against Yorick in top

Ralanr··31 votes·2,522 views

And I have to say that it was a challenge, but it wasn't something I hated. Because of his need for ghouls, there were moments in lane where I didn't have to worry about him all inning me. His Q hurts like a bitch, but taking into account how his damage works, it makes sense that his Q does so much (it's the only damage of his that he can control 100%).

His W combo is devastating if you aren't mobile (which as Sion I was not) but it's telegraphed enough to get out of it. His E was harder to dodge than I expected, probably because I was getting used to seeing the hitbox from the otherside. He also missed it s few times.

His ghouls are basically little glass cannons. They hurt a lot if you let them focus you, but die easily.

Overall I think he's pretty fair.

I'm tempted to say he's the healthiest of the Juggernaut bunch

Ralanr2 votes

I'd agree with that. I don't doubt that he'll have some problems in the future (all champions do) but he's pretty healthy with his very clear windows of power.

I'm tempted to say he's the healthiest of the Juggernaut bunch

His ghouls could use a little scaling though... They get nuked so hard late game theyre useless and yorick kind of becomes relegated to split push extraordinaire.

Malicious Metal14 votes

Yeah, late-late game is kinda bad due to them dying instantly, even to supports

Troll for Trump1 votes

I still don't get why they designated Yorick's role to be a splitpusher...

SociopathFriend2 votes

Because that's what Yorick did. He'd pop up his little ghouls- massacre the wave and hyper-push the lane if you left him alone. And trying to 1v1 him later in the game was kinda a death sentence since he'd make it a 2v1.

They designated him to be a Ghoul-Commander-styler champion- and they focused on embellishing that.

Raid Boss Morde2 votes

Seems like it. Riot did pretty well with ol' Yorick.

TotalJerk1 votes

He's too dependent on ideal circumstances and too powerful when he fulfills them,

Ðelofasht4 votes

In spite of doing well enough with him since the rework I will state that I feel he is not healthy as a Juggernaut at all. His passive graves generation needs tuning (slight reworking to not be linked to minions and monsters and instead a charge system) to make it more reliable, and he would strongly benefit from more consistent way of directing the mistwalkers, and lastly having some way of dealing with all the mobility champs in this game. His wall being escapeable by every hop or dash in the game means he has one less skill at all against enemies with one. (Or someone like Riven who can use Q x3 or E to escape. . .)

Ralanr7 votes

If you make it more reliable then he can get too oppressive.

The only thing I'd like to see is for the passive grave making to decrease with level. Every 12th enemy minion that dies becomes a grave no matter what, and while that's ok in lane, late game it barely registers. And when everyone is clearing waves late game, it's hard to last hit for ghouls.

Numbers could be tuned for the increased reliability, but currently with graves generation linked as it is and only having one option to direct the mistwalkers, Yorick feels lacking.

MagosAmphrose10 votes

Actually, Yorick's graves do decrease with level. 12/8/4 dead units per autograve at levels 1/7/13.

Ralanr2 votes

Or really? That's awesome.

Scoroct2 votes

its actually insane, you almost accidently get an entire new army while waveclearing once you reach lvl 13. I think that is his prime point in the game more or less

I actually think Riot did a terrific job on his rework too! He has very clear windows of power that's easily evident to his enemy so they know how to play accordingly. His Mourning Mist is SUCH a hard skill shot to learn how to land at first so pretty much half the time he misses it isn't even because you read him/dodged it. It was just because it's got a really weird hit box and the way it's casted is vastly different than any other ground based AoE.

The only thing I have an issue with is if you miss your E with him then your damage is cut in half basically because the ghouls have so much of his power.

chubs12243 votes

Only skillshot I dont think I will use smart cast on just because the hit box is so weird

Drugoth6 votes

Took me a couple games to figure out that when you smart cast his E, the AoE isn't centered on your cursor, instead the closest edge to Yorick is placed at your cursor. Takes a lot of getting used to and I missed a lot of skill shots I should have hit otherwise.

Scoroct1 votes

if his Q forced the ghouls to target the same person he hit would be nice and could work decently

Erablier3 votes

It's kind of confusing to me, like I keep hearing people say he's not a good champion yet he's been the top laner who I've been using to climb since his rework.

kaffeknappens3 votes

He can be ok as a counter pick. But too many champions counter him.

Btw. If that's your ig name, you have a 38% win rate with Yorick. Nice climbing.

Drunkplank1 votes

Check my winrate with him tho, literally got plat thanks to yorick :D

Eedat2 votes

I don't know if it's just my champion but I've faced 3 Yorick's in the top lane so far. I'm a jungle main it's not like I'm spamming top, but I absolutely crushed him all 3 times. I'm a Wukong main so maybe it's just the matchup

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

He's always been pretty good against Yorick, so I sort of feel like if that's still the case then that just might mean they managed to keep his strengths and weaknesses in tact.

Luxrath2 votes

But if you leave top unattended for 2 minutes and you have a little army knocking on your nexus.

Ralanr1 votes

Why did you leave top unattended for so long?

GrReaper962 votes

I tp bot to help gank and he took my untouched first and second tier.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

In that case, I love new Yorick. Might help to keep some of the mass ganks botlane from getting too crazy.

Spoofghoul1 votes

as both a yorick and sion main

sion is actually good into him

all you need is item 3068 item 3075 and his ghouls will keep suiciding for free hp

and you can E his maiden away, and since its a pretty dumb pet it will now target the neares minion till his e comes up [zombie-brand-mindblown]

but yea his wall + ghoul is pretty devastating

max his wall second

Sion and Yorick actually work well together

Ralanr1 votes

Yeah, his wall scales better than his E (I'm not sure it even scales).

Spoofghoul1 votes

Its also much more annoying with 4 hp

and the cooldown decreases alot

his e deal 15% current hp damage only the minimum damage increases so outside of shorter cooldown you really don't get much out of it.

Considering the fact that it will take you at least its rank 1 cooldown with 0% cdr to get enough graves to summon your ghouls you won't even need it more often, at least not earlier in the game, once you get more levels and cdr and your passive gives graves more often, around level 13 is where it might be useful to put extra points into it.

This is not actually true, 15% current ends up being less and less as the enemy health goes down, and W is escapeable by every non juggernaut in the game. The real reason to max E first is because it is the only way to control your mistwalkers and the minimum damage ends up always being more damage then the 15% except if they are a tank that built full health to start. This also makes your damage varied in physical and Magic during laning which makes it hard to itemize against him. If mana is an issue, one should be building some kind of sheen item likely, or you can do what I do and run flat mana glyphs.

Spoofghoul1 votes

only if the health goes down does it actually become less but it's not so noticeable

His e is barely 5% of his damage output at best, his mix damage comes mainly due to his maiden's %hp damage procs every 2 seconds

the rest is basic attacks, q+sheen procs and ghouls

And while E is his only way to control ghouls, like i pointed out you wont need it more often pre level 13 as you don't get to summon them often enough to make use of its reduced cooldown. Basically there is no need to controll ghouls more often.

as a, 1 game short of mastery 6 Yorick main i have had enough experience in maxing either of the abilties second to come to the conclusion that maxing his wall second is the better option 95% of the time

However

if you are new to Yorick then i would suggest maxing e first to control ghouls more often, simply because you are more likely to miss the ability and this would give you more wiggle room, but if like me you can consistently hit it you will find yourself not needing the reduced cooldown prior to level 13

As a Yorick main with lv 7 mastery, and someone who has played a ton of games with him since the rework as well, maxing E first is the way to go in 90% of the matchups. In fact against nearly any matchup it is better to even take it first over Q, simply due to the fact that. You can chunk you opponent for nearly half their health if you land several of them when they are going to cs in the first wave of minions.

Also, after getting my initial set of graves down I generally am able to keep a set of at least 3 down all the time and if I land E and walk in and W then summon and they do not have a dash they are in for a world of hurt. Maxing Wall only works if the opponent does not have a dash.

I thought the maiden was set up to go after whoever was hitting yorick and prioritize champions yorick is hitting, i've had maiden stop waveclearing to come help me kill a jungler a few times even without the E

Spoofghoul1 votes

Thats correct

it should also do so for epic monsters imho, but sadly it doesn't

crippler381 votes

I can see why it doesn't do that though, because then you can't have it push a lane near the epic monster then go to take the monster with your team, if you want it to help take a monster wai summon the thingy in a lane ya know? I personally like how the AI controls on them since they made it so predictable that it's easy to play around unlike uncontrollable minions (like in smite for nu wa, she summons basically lane minions which means summoning them in the jungle is a recipe for disaster, just off the top of my head)

I personally think the pet AI in league is some of the best (Dota dun count, you don't have an AI on ur pets, Hots don't count you control them all, don't know of other pet heroes) since all the pets either prioritize heroes or whoever you're fighting or you can control them (which is less of an Ai)

My gripe is the pets you CAN control like shaco clone being dumb af half the time!

Spoofghoul1 votes

The thing with sending it down a lane to divert opponents is that you would sent it down the furthest lane ideally

if you take baron you let maiden split bot so your opponent goes to bot and not one of the very near lanes to stop it

you see, if you sent it down top lane and take baron then your opponent can take care of maiden on its way to baron anyway so it wont really help split their attention much at all it also wont be there to help you fight either way

however if you win a fight in lane with maidens help it will now go full tyler 1 where it could have helped you take baron if thats what you wanted

hOrnn1 votes

so it wasent season 2 yorick?

Vallalan1 votes

he's incredibly weak imo. the mistwalkers simply die way way too easily. his kit seems ok, like it's not too bad of a kit. but not being able to control the maiden is pretty terribad, and his mistwalkers die in one or two hits.

and why that is bad is because of how situational it is to even summon them. i mean he preps all this time with his Q, waits basically 3 rotations of his Q before summoning them, and then they...die instantly? with barely getting damage off? I mean that's not good. I think they need to be slightly tankier. I'm not saying the mist walkers should be a bitch to take down, but they should last more than a single hit or two so they can get some damage off and reward yorick for the time he took to prep them.

Hahahahyena1 votes

hes literally his old self except with a skill shot, a circle wall, and no revive. for me he is around the same difficulty to play against

Sir Fuzzi1 votes

Yorick's Q is all scaling, while Yorick's E is all base; his W provides no damage and is totally escapable CC. His ult, while strong, is neither team-controlling CC nor all-situations, nor an execute. He has no true damage and his only HP scaling is 15% current health, no more and no less. His health is non-scaling and amplifies under 50% for a total under 200 IIRC.

Honestly, playing and playing against Yorick is the healthiest I've felt League be in a long time. That's all I can really say-- and he still feels unique.

He would be a complete success if we gave a small durability buff to his ghouls.

To be honest he's really unhealthy. Playing Yorick once in a while myself, his Q deals so much damage, heals for so much, and his R .. holy shit I rush triforce/cleaver, if you stack your Q then W/E someone you can put them at 2/3 hp. Not sure if I'm a good Yorick or he's just really broken. How does he have such a low winrate? 48,13% from champion.gg Splitpush all the way. ghost away if you can't fight, but you can turn most 1v2's/(3's if you're ahead) after 2 items. I never group yet force their team to leave the teamfight if they wanna keep their inhibs alive.

Ralanr1 votes

I wouldn't say his heal is that powerful. It's a flat heal.

So you're complaining that a champion in their item 3078 power-spike is powerful? Q is the only source of reliable damage in the kit without the ultimate and Yorick's not the only champion that's good with Triforce.

Noblewind1 votes

New Yorick seems pretty fair and balanced to me so far. I love this rework and it's the first champ I've spammed and want to keep spamming since I started playing.

Does well in some matchups, bad in others. Ability to snag a solo Herald feels unique for top lane. Feels like a juggernaut during team fights, but you also bring a lot of utility for allies. Good and viable variation in build paths. Maybe some numbers tweaks are needed here and there but he's definitely fair

Honestly, if any aspect of the kit is OP it's the W in a lot of situations. If you have a kindred or Elise ganks are freelo, and later on it has huge upside vs enemy tanks/divers and in combo with stuns/hooks
