A suggestion for rebalancing Gangplank

OK, as you may or may not be aware, Gangplank is staring down the barrel of a pretty major nerf on the PBE, changing his barrels from ignoring a large percentage of the enemies' TOTAL armour to only a percentage of their BONUS armour. It's pretty obvious what the problem is; GP is simply ripping through squishies far too easily, especially AD carries, which isn't what Riot had in mind when they were redesigning him.

Now I just had a thought: if you ask me, the REAL problem with the barrels lies in chaining them, particularly the way doing so not only allows GP to bypass the ENTIRE "can you defuse the barrel before he detonates it?" minigame that the skill was designed around (by shooting a barrel you can't even reach to trigger one that you can't defuse right on top of you), but also allows him to trigger his MASSIVE bursts of AoE damage on enemies who are not only out of his melee range, but even far out of the range of his Parrrley (Parrrley has a range of 625, but GP can place barrels as much as 1000 units away)! Clearly Riot are nerfing his AR pen to try and inhibit GP's ability to do this on low-mobility squishies who can neither get out of the explosion radius without Flashing, nor stop him from triggering it because the barrel he shoots to set the chain off is far outside their attack range. However I don't think this actually addresses the problem.

What I think would make more sense would be if each chained barrel does reduced damage compared to the first one. For example, if the initial barrel Gangplank triggers explodes for (just throwing out some completely random numbers here) 1000 damage, the first one it chains to will only do about 800, a 3rd barrel would explode for only 600 and a hypothetical 4th barrel in the chain would only do 400. This would cause the ability to do more damage to enemies who charge in on Gangplank to take him on face-to-face, while not punishing the squishies who are trying to kite but failing because GP is only technically a melee champion (let's face it, almost ALL his damage at the moment is coming from the barrels). Basically it would punish people who fall into GP's traps, but not allow him to just project long ranged damage like he's a goddamn Xerath in a pirate hat.

What do you guys think?

I think people should just grow up, realize they got outplayed, and stop complaining because, "OMG, SO OP, I DIED AS AN ADC. NERF!"

Thing is, if you dodge barrels, or just shoot them (VERY, VERY easy to do, by the way) then he does no damage. But hey, you can't possibly force people to actually counterplay someone in League, no no; that's not allowed!

<sigh> Dunno why I bother with these dumbasses sometimes.

Keep deluding yourself, buddy. It's easy when you don't read even a single word I write other than "Gangplank" and "barrels".

"VERY, VERY easy to do"? You're an idiot. It's literally IMPOSSIBLE to disarm the barrel that is going to chunk 50% of your HP because the barrel Gangplank uses to trigger the chain is BEHIND HIM and the one that's going to hurt you needs to be hit THREE TIMES. And you can't dodge the explosion either because he drops the barrel literally ON YOUR FACE with the explosion already racing down the chain as he does it! I said this, but since you're obviously functionally illiterate you must have missed it.

The barrel chain trick completely removes the counterplay from what was supposed to be Gangplank's barrel "minigame". It's a cheat he uses to detonate barrels on your face instantly without even giving you the OPPORTUNITY to defuse them. If you deny this, you're retarded (or more likely, playing at a low enough skill level where the Gangplank players don't use barrel chains for 1000-range nuke damage). You can SEE this happening in PRO-LEVEL games. It's been happening at the All-Stars ever this very week. But please, go on telling me how "you're just not good enough to counterplay against him" if it makes you feel better.

I mean, honestly, there's nothing I can say other than to actually pay attention to what's happening and "get good." I play GP a lot, he's one of my favorite champions, so I know exactly how to beat him, too.

But you just go on complaining and calling him broken. Only thing that should be viable is ADCs and mages who have no skillshots anyway.

hi there i main gp, i haven't played him in a bit but thas cuz i've been looking into renekton and poppy anywho!, i just see this as what riots doing for s6 not so much a gp nurf just a armor pen redux since a barrel is like a free not constant last whisper which now has the same effect on armor. i also don't think the barrel chain nurf your suggesting is worth it and would do more harm than good, it removes the whole skill cap of chaining barrels and makes gps only wanna place one in a bush and sprinkle others in much farther areas and never wanting to chain since the damage wouldn't be worth it, even by going with you numbers why would i want to chain a barrel and have it do 800 when i can just zone and poke him and wait for him to get in range before i shoot it dealing max damage. people seem to think gps barrels are broken when simple warding and range counters him.

[zombie-brand-facepalm] Literally Gangplank has been nerfed wayyy too much already. Stop complaining and just be better.
