Don't say "pick a champion", say "build a unit".

"Whenever I face zerg, they always go mutas and I lose. And don't say build stalkers to counter, I shouldn't have to build stalkers to win the game. What if I want to go carriers?"

"Guys, I don't understand why my team gets angry at me when I announce my intention to rush battlecruisers no matter what. Battlecruisers are fun! Isn't this game for fun?"

"Stalkers are too good. They are strong against everything and have no weaknesses. I refuse to use them because I have honour, but I keep losing to them and now I'm in bronze and I don't deserve it!"

"There is NO counterplay to ultralisks! Unless you have range, but ultras are just a big fuck you to all melee units!"

"BG NOOB VOID RAY SPAMMING NO SKILL NOOB YOU ONLY WON BECAUSE I HAD NO ANTI AIR"

"Dark templars are anti fun, if you don't have detection there is nothing you can do and it sucks to spend money on detection to win the game!"

"The meta is for sheep, I'm going to build factory before rax and rush them with 20 widow mines! Whoops, I lost because I didn't have a rax and they just walked in. Blizzard enforces the meta!!!!!!"

"This game sucks because Blizzard only cares about KOREANBIG$PORTS. Proxy cannons are unstoppable in bronze, but Blizzard doesn't care about bronze!"

Silly, isn't it? People keep forgetting that this is a strategy game, not Super Smash Bros, and you have teammates and a responsibility to play to win.

Tl;dr champion select is part of the game, counter picking is part of the game, getting counterpicked is your fault, fun picks aren't so for your teammates, complaining because you can't counter Kalista as Darius is your fault for picking Darius when they did or could pick Kalista.

so people should only play broken OP champs with no meaningful counters until the last ttwo picks?

OK, nope. not until I get my instant voice chat to whole team and can properly coordinate shit.

People should comprehend how to counter-pick and counter-play their opponents. Willingly not counter-picking or counter-playing is basically handing your opponent a free win.

And I seriously want to know, who are these broken OP champions with no meaningful counters?

Brken OP is a phrase I thought would get the point across rather than refer to a champ, but you can't deny there are champs with few counters and some with many. Ahri Kalista Zed , for instance, your best bet is that the player is bad. AniviaNasus Mordekaiser, OTOH, should never be blind picked. This is what I was referring to.

You can blind-pick Anivia, Nasus or Mordekaiser. You just have to make sure you have a team that actually works with them. In Blind pick, since you can't counter-pick, you have to focus on team composition. Is it cohesive? Are we good enough with our champions to know how to deal with this situation? Will we be able to swap lanes or help another lane get ahead if we need it?

By blind pick I was referring to drafting before you see a lane opponent, maybe first pick? you didn't think I meant blind pick normals, did you? eeew.

No, you can't *first-*pick them. Generally, the only advantage first-pick gets is they get to ban three champions, so hopefully they get rid of the most prominent counters to whoever they're choosing.

You realize this boils down to "Only pick champions that can't be counterpicked", right? That it removes a large chunk of the champion pool? At what point is it not worth having these champions in the game?

I'd also argue that the current iteration of League of Legends has more in common with Super Smash Bro's than Starcraft.

I'm not saying every champion has to be viable in every matchup, but it would be nice to see more champions viable in more matchups.

Gee, it's almost like this game has five times as many champions as necessary from a gameplay perspective. Which is a design flaw, thanks for mentioning it.

"Please add anti-air rockets to tanks so they can still be viable when they build mass air".

Siege tanks can attack roughly half of the units in the game. What we're talking about is the hypothetical Starcraft unit that can only attack 1 unit per race. It may do a great job at countering that one unit, but people are a bit upset that that's all it can do.

A design flaw is exactly what people are complaining about, yet you mock the complaints.

You went on a bit too long with the Starcraft references, but thanks for letting me know Riot's community isn't the only one full of bitching scrubs.

I only read the tldr but I agree completely. Champ select is indeed when the game begins. You don't need to necesarily fotm champs, you need to consider counter picks/ what your team needs. Too often do I lose games simply because nobody felt like playing a front line champ

I agree but counterpick should not mean auto win counterpick and counterplay sure

but simply winning lane horribly and getting horribly fed cause i picked teemo and the other picked riven thats just lame ?

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

Well, it's not like you're locked to your lane with no teammates.

It's like people in my Zed game last night complaining about Zed being OP. Except every single person flashed as soon as I cast my Death Mark, not after I appeared behind them.
