How to nerf/tweak Morde properly

Malicious Metal··11 votes·1,384 views

Welp, Morde's got a zillion problems currently, the discrepancy between Duo and Solo Mordhue being one of them. Yet Riot isn't able to beef him up without addressing his duo lane.

Now, which parts of his kit are the worst offenders? Simple; W and Ult passive. There are actually some rather easy fixes for this, some of which I'd like to point out.

Harvester of Sorrow -Remove the W passive if the last netf didn't suffice -Outright remove the heal. It's either shitty or too strong as well as double dipping as a shield gain tool, a speed buff and a heal. Heck a heal costing hp is icky anyways.

Dragonforce -new passive call of the grave Know how Azir's turrets lose resistances when he isn't around? Add something similar to the dragon clone: decaying health, reduced timer, reduced resistances, etc. when Morde isn't around. It would make it less obnoxious to deal with and would require Morde to fight alongside it if he wants to get the most of it.

Base stats compensation -due to Tri force becoming way too gimmicky for Morde he might need skme of his former AS back. In order for him not to become oppressive I suggest buffing his AS/level rather than his base. ->2% to 3%

-his base health's pretty shitty (1725 o-O) and needs to be beefed up. Heck, he's a juggernaut, The Iron Revenant. Still, rather buff his pitiful scaling than his base (525 base currently) -> 73 per level to 90, making him max out at 2050 (Darius got 2300 as a reference.

-his MS might need a little love as well with the nerf to tri force. Nerfing the active MS of his W would even allow Riot to give gim back some more MS. Still 325 ms IS way too low, especially compared to the other Juggernauts who even got CC and mobility.

(Bonus point; less damage on q, more on W, E would be nice)

Morde should be Poppyfied right now, his Q only deals more damage than the entire combo of any champ at level 6. He literally has to click you and press abilities to kill you, while you need to kite perfectly and have a Janna to not die. (Except when he has flash, then you're dead anyways)

I meant making his early horribly bad and lategame super strong until they find a good way to balance him

As someone who's played a fair bit against, with, and as the new Mordekaiser, I'm wondering how the heck Mordekaiser has 145 AD by level 6. Because that's the only way he's going to beat (as an example) Brand's combo at the same level if neither one has any AP (AP further tilts the contest in Brand's favor), not to mention Brand's passive damage. 117+(2.68AD)+(1.95AP) vs 506+(2.45AP). And if he's just running at you and you're playing any champion but one of the slowest in the game (heaven help him if you happen to actually have mobility as well), you can simply run away. And he's left with nothing.

Morde, until he has Rylai's, is VERY easy to kite. Even with his core anti-kiting item, a single slow or blink is often enough to get away from him, as his effective range is quite low. So I'd appreciate you not making him out to be some sort of unkitable god, as that's a flat out lie. Kiting, especially with mobile champions, is easy as pie against him.

That's why he always has a Leona or blitzcrank support. the thing is, all adcs are also super slow, and when you kite, you are slower than him, and early game you just dont have enough damage for him to care about being kited, he knows that he'll get to you, and when he does, he bursts so hard.

Adrian Umbra1 votes

So nothing defending your blatant exaggeration about his burst? No? Well then...

The only ADCs that are the same speed as him that DON'T have a blink or dash are Jinx, Kog'Maw, Ashe, and Miss Fortune. Of those, all have slows, MF also getting a speed boost, Kog getting a range boost that allows him to harass even tanky Morde harder than he can recover from, Ashe has a huge range combined with slows even on her basic autos, and Jinx has an even larger range. All of them have options to get away and honestly if you do well in lane against Morde, he loses.

You don't need to dominate him while your only item is a Doran's Blade, you settle for a fight once you've got your IE or BotRK. Thus why he almost always NEEDS that heavy, lane dominating engage support in lane with him. However, YOU also have a support, with popular options including Lulu, Braum, and others. Even when you're being engaged on, they're able to keep Mordekaiser off you and ensure that he's less useful lategame in teamfights.

But it only works if you are dumb enough to stay close range. His movespeed makes it hard to dump out a full kit combo.

Q3 and. Flash. If that's your only reliable source of Dmg on a champion something is majorly wrong

Hmm, I dunno Mordepool, when I go AP in top lane solokiaser, when I run 2 Movespeed Quints and focus AP and movement/slow items, I can land solo w damage/heal..(rylias, alacrity boots, deadman's, lich bane all help sticking and escapes) and run either TP and ghost or ghost and flash. I perfer the latter for Mordekiaser's lack of mobility and needed escapes, although I will flash q sometimes if I needed.

But Mordekiaser's defensive base stats should at least have a slight buff. It's way to easy to kill a Mordekiaser in any lane. The only reason that I don't die is because I play safe, have mobility and focus my builds for things that help movespeed, and time that heal well. (move quints and first back boots help land it)

At first I thought solo w should do AoE DoT damage, but I'm beggining to think that it will shove lane too hard, which is bad because it makes Morde even EASIER TO GANK. No bueno.

Plus, honestly I love that heal, I don't wanna give it up.

Just buff Morde's base defensive stats.

Ps-- to all others, MORDEKIASER MUST HAVE STRONG DAMAGE BECAUSE HE HAS LOW BASE HP AND IS SUPER DANG SLOW AND HAS NO INNATE CC

I ONLY NEED TO SLAP YOUR SHIT ONCE, FOOLS

Ya Bud I'd for sure add ya. But I've been uninstalled for a month+ now. I feel reinstalling would be the wrong thing to do. If you play other games I'd be down. Darksouls/ borderlands. Sins of a Solar empire. D&D I play lots.

makes TOO much sense not to be implemented.

"-Outright remove the heal." agreed. healing is the supports job. Even then its not needed in solo lane due to everything else you said.

Giving him the solo W damage wouldn't be too shabby either xD

With the Season 6 set up I think the tweaks for solo viability aren't too much to ask for. I would say his Base/ MAX HP need to be buffed as well as his HP Regen and Base Armor. Skills wise his W just needs a major rework everything else I believe will be fine.

More assumption is that Morde will be heavily based around 4 Masteries: Stormraider Surge, Runic Armor, Intelligence and Insight. Given the changes to Triforce which isn't really a nerf to Morde in my opinion other than the cost he is setting up to be a heavy CD champ. with 45% CDR His Q will be up every 2.2 seconds. Not to mention lucidity boots-distortion his summoner spells will be up constantly. You can run Flash, Ghost, Exhaust and even nerfed TP.

He early game is what suffers to the extreme. He has no mobility which is fine, except in solo lanes the enemy can freeze the lane towards their side and then jump on Morde who can't run back to his tower for safety. Often times in doing this Morde will actually win the initial trade because of his Q, but then he is most likely on CD for his spells and good luck catching someone with your W. So you actually take most of your damage when you are running away back to safety waiting for your CD's to reset.

This is where Stormraiders comes into play. Doing 30% Max HP is nothing for Morde, especially when his opponent is attacking him (Yasuo, Riven etc.) Even at base 320 MS an increase of 35% gives him 432 MS for 3 seconds enough for him to high tail it out after a trade, get close enough to heal off W and still make it back to his tower and reset. With runic armor his passive is that much stronger, I question if this mastery will also buff the inante shield passive in his E.

With those small changes I listed above I would say running CD runes possibly even going nuts starting with 20% CDR, Health Regen Yellows, and Maybe even armor reds is the way to go. You can force trades or counter trades and escape actual danger. With the CDR added to Triforce and the dmg you get off of spell blade having 30% CDR from just buying Sheen and Lucidity boots (1850g) your constantly refreshing to spellblade proc.

Lets not also forget the change to Hextech Gunblade which is massive for Morde with CDR and Tri-force Spell Blade. 15% of Spell blade is health every 1.5 seconds, with skills on 45% CDR you are refreshing that constantly. Hitting hard and moving in and out like a ninja every 10 seconds. Hit Distortion Flash, Ghost and Stormraider and for 1-3 seconds you have +113% MS.

If tried CDR blues and one CDR quint on him already. The problem is, you poke yourself down like crazy. That stormraider sounds useful tho.

You would need to follow up with HP regen yellows and be judicious on your skill usage other than trading. The goal is to not try and kill your lane per se but force them to leave you alone nd farm, that being a bad idea because Morde scales hard. I look at it kind of like playing Nasus.

t0ad51 votes

Fixing him is as easy as rolling back then failed update.

Jotunheimr1 votes

You know, when I lane against another Norde, it's so easy to kill him. Too easy, especially early.

Ive played as and against Morde, solo and duo lane.

Early I'll always get him and suppress him. He seems to scale okay late, so perhaps a buff to his Armor and MR would be nice, base stat wise.

As solo lane Mordekiaser, I like the heal, personally. It allows me to solo lane well with hi. If I play safe, poke, and all in at lv. 6 or after. Hahaha, I have a better solo lane Mordekiaser than duo for some reason, but I focus movement and AP as well as resistances when needed.

Huehue

Morde DEFENATLY needs a base defensive stat buff; I feel sorry for all Mordekiaser's I play against. I dominate them because I know how to get him. IS little too easy if you ask me.

With how Morde is now, it's not good to push lane hard too early, because he is really easy to gank. I personally play safe top lane, and abuse what I can of my shield and heals. Its the heal that let's him solo lane.

DoT AoE w would be nice, but I can appreciate his current solo w for a few reasons: as stated above, ya don't shove lane unless you want to. More importantly, they underestimate the solo w because it's not doing DoT damage, so a lot of people I play against come at me, I activate q, use e for shield, hitting minions and champ, and deactivate w once they do thier damage, again, being sure to hit minions and the champ for a nice heal, as I go AP Mord to milk his heals from w and ult.

I used to build tri force on him, but stopped rushing it for rylias rush, considering my runes and masteries focus mobility, which he severly lacks, and the mixed damage.

Like I've said before, practice landing that solo w in bot games; SOLO TOP. Going 2 vs 1 against bots is great practice.

Alright. I'm afraid to tell how I play Morde to much publicly, because if people learn to play him well... I'm afraid he'll get nerfed AGAIN. Morde's base stats already suck, and he is super squishy.

I'll post it one more time. This is with no Tri Force and no AD items as AD Morde falls off hard late.

RUNES: AD reds, Armor yellows, AP blues, 2 MOVESPEED QUINTS, and either 1 AD quint or AP quint; I normally do the AP quint for a stronger solo w heal.

The weakness with these runes are AP based enemies, so if you go against one, you must start Null Magic Mantle or you WILL die due to Mord's awful base stats.

Masteries: 21/0/3. Offensive go for what ups physical and AP damage. The 3 in utily is for the base movespeed mastery, giving you in combination with your runes 3 movespeed quints.

I like to run flash and ghost for maximum mobilty and escapes.

Early game: Against AD laner, start Amp Tome, health pot and Warding totem. Amp tome will increse your heal when you get it. Start e for shield. I like to begin by hiding in the bush till at least 1 minion is low enough to cs with e. Use e as csing tool, and try to hit minions and enemy laner together for maximum shield. Play safe, not aggresivly. Lv.2 get heal, use it in a similar fashion as e, trying to hit champ and minions for max heal. Learn to deactivate w when they come to do damage to you. Turn on your w as they walk to you, and deactivate after they do a little damage, but still close to you. You will damage and heal nicely with AP. Lv 3 obviously q. 4 w again, than 2 q's, than e than get your ult, which is a second heal.

Rush Rylias, but you must get boots first back for speed. After boots and rylias, i go liandrys. These AP items give health to up your shield, huehue, and AP to boost all abilities. Hue.

Nasors tooth for AP and attack speed, dead mans for movespeed and health.

Against AP enemy team you NEED MAGIC RESIST GET SPIRIT VISAGE!!!AP is a huge weakness with this way of playing.

Anyways, friend me and you can see how I play him solo lane so you can get an idea what im talking about. Ill be on later.

I'm acually an Olaf main, but I guess I'm becoming a Mordekiaser main now, since I've kinda been spamming him, practicing, and playing him so much recently.

I'll be on in about an hour or so. Me and my friend share the account, so if you friend me now, if the account is online it won't be me, the dude you're talking to. XD

He likes hiemerdinger, lol. He doesn't like Morde because his movespeed is slow, attack speed is slow, and is squishy.

Anyways, yeah, it'd be nice to get other opinions on my Morde play, too. That's why I wish Mordepool still had League installed, but it is what it is.

I tried to find malicious metal, but he was on the EU server. Too bad.

But yeah man, I'd love share my Morde play with someone who's interested. On another note, a ranked duo partner would ne nice, I'd love to get back outta bronze.

Honestly, I dunno how my gameplay applies to higher elo, but I play him safe early so I don't get behind and make full use of the heals.

I'll get to ya in about an hour.

To be honest, Morde doesn't really have a Niche anymore. His old one appeared to be a revenge killer, capable of using fed enemy carries against their team. The stronger THEY got, the stronger Morde got. However, he doesn't seem to have that anymore. He seems to be an objective-seige kind of thing now. I'd actually like him to be able to control the Herald similarly to the Dragon, it'd give him more reason to go solo top.

Jotunheimr1 votes

I mean, I never thought Morde was viable solo, until I practiced landing the w heals. I got comfortable with what I run, and played normals like that. Than played ranked, got girst blood, got a few triples and a quadra.

Got my first Penta with AP Morde yesterday (starting solo top) huehuehue
