Thresh's ulti doesn't make Sens

his ulti is called "The box", it means that you trap someone into something he can't escape, in this case if you are trapped by thresh and try to go out you take a lot of damage + massive slow.

The thing is thresh's ulti range is too short for counterplay and only used if you grabbed someone. And that's why a lot of people use it to disengage by pressing R and the enemies can't follow you. I think this should be removed by activating the walls only if the enemies go through it while being inside the box, thresh already does a lot of things, his disengage should be harder to do.

So, Thresh's ultimate cast range is so short for counter play? Most people would say that its low range and delay which allows people to walk out relatively easily while he is casting it are the definition of counter play.

I understand that you don't like Thresh, but hitting his already bad ultimate is not going to hurt him in the ways you want. It is just going to make an already difficult to use ability even more situational and he will still be doing all the things you hate.

Really that Thresh is primarily using The Box as a disengage tool should tell you pretty much all you need to know about its effectiveness.

bad ultimate? you didn't understand what i was meaning. The low range and delay is good, because thresh has to grab you to trap you with his ulti. What isn't ok is him casting his ulti and walk away, you're saying that it's a "difficult to use ability" and this is not true, the 99% slow for 2 seconds will give you the abillity to escape all the time

Low range and delay are good because it is forced to be used with other abilities instead of on its own, ok.

And I say 'difficult to use' because it is difficult to get the effectiveness out of an ultimate that does nothing to those inside of it that do not need to leave and nothing to outside it that do not need to enter.

Compare to J4 ult, which has historically had people complain about the ease of escape. Take away the mobility, the on demand damage, and the inability of your enemies to just walk out and then you have Thresh's ult.

Thresh's ult is just more flash than substance and nerfing it will be about as big as nerfing the passive component of Blitzcrank's ult or nerfing Zyra's passive.

And if it is really bothering you just that it is called The Box and stops people from getting inside, boxes do indeed stop the outside from getting inside. You may test with a box.

Yeah, I kinda agree that his ult should only apply damage or slow if they walk through it from inside of the box, being able to escape bad positioning because hurr durr, you have to walk through 2 walls of slow to get to me is pretty bs

One of my friends thought of the idea to make it a ground skillshot, but that would be way too hard to balence

Also, what kind of name is The Box?! Why did they change it from it's beta name of Spectral Prison?

The name should be changed, and I agree that it should only work if you try to get out of it. To make it more fair, they could increase the range so you have more room to walk around in. An interesting idea would be to prevent dashing through it (not including blinks like Flash) until you walk through the wall, and interacting as terrain for Gnar's ult, Vayne's E, Poppy's E, etc

No thanks, we don't need a lesser Equinox + Cataclysm combo. The walls don't last that long and the slow is never applied fully as there is a hard MS cap. And damage wise, it's a shadow of it's former self.

I think it'd be cool if the ole chain wardens ultimate was changed so that instead he chains all enemies in an area to a center point, letting them still move around but basically tied to a post, when released they could be slowed and take amplified damage instead of just taking a flat amount on exit

Counterplay is;

  1. Waiting for the box to expire

  2. Blinking out of the box

  3. Keeping your distance from him

  4. Dashing out, while he is casting the box

and when he uses it to disengage?

Then the counterplay is walking around the box. If you are now going to argue that by being forced to walk slightly to the side Thresh has completed his goal then I feel there really is no hope.

Is dodging a skill shot not counterplay because you had to move to avoid the effects?

Sometimes when using abilities you can count on the much reduced effectiveness of the counter play option to be good enough, and if Thresh is using his ultimate just so people have to spend a second more to walk around it kudos to him. But if you go and call that extra second this immensely restrictive part of his ultimate with no counterplay then so is EVERY AOE ABILITY IN THE GAME, many of which have much lower cooldowns than Thresh's ultimate.

Disengage is not meant to have counterplay because it is counterplay.
