I like the Veigar changes except for...

E. Q is actually going to make him more fun to play IMO. W got a frequency buff (not that it actually matters since you can't land it on anyone that isn't cc'd or unconscious). R got a nerf, but I honestly don't care since I feel like Q's buff will compensate.

But E scares me. I play a lot of Veigar. Nowhere near as much as I play Azir, but Veigar is my third most played champion and I've been playing him since S2 when I started playing League. I like the little burst mage and I'm glad that Riot didn't want to change him into something he's not. But I'm seriously scared of the E change.

Why? Mid lane has a LOT of mobility. And before, his E afforded security when bursting. I agree it was too much. Don't mistake me; his E needed to be changed from an instant AoE stun that's better than some ults. But now, anyone that's conscious can just walk out without getting stunned, meaning that you have to rely on an inept opponent to get your burst off which is not fun for either party.

The idea of a ring stun is a cool one and I believe can remain, but it needs some security. It needs to be able to do something. And I have an idea that's piggybacked off what I saw elsewhere on the forums.

Turn his E into a skillshot like Anivia's Q. Anyone the projectile passes through or is within range of it when E is pressed a second time is interrupted. Upon the second press, the existing stun circle will be instantly deployed. This gives Veigar some security while also giving him the ability to burst down enemies if he lands a slow skillshot.

I support your idea. It's not only the delay on his stun, but it'll be telegraphed so your opponent knows when it's coming, and where.

I'm not really sold. How often do you see someone walk out of a thresh ult? That's about the length of time we're talking about here.

Don't get me wrong, it's an enormous nerf. It used to be a reliable AoE stun. I just think lots of targets will get caged, and not be able to walk out of the AoE entirely.

It's a large enough circle that you can dodge dark matter without getting stunned. It means that if someone jumps on his face, he can't stop them or escape. His E is a long cooldown that forces him to use it to escape or engage. Now, it makes little difference.

Putting it on an interrupting projectile gives him the potential for instant deployment around himself as well as stopping things like Kat ults.

Certainly true. I worry for the health of W. It might need more changes. That's about W more than E, though. I would like to see W become a button that can stand on its own two feet.

In my view, Veigar is intended to die horribly against assassins. He shouldn't have tools to survive getting jumped. If that means we need to buff him in other areas, great! Better to have champions with strong strengths and weak weaknesses.

Yes, but there comes a point where you're playing rock paper scissors and that's the territory you're talking about entering here. Assassins were already good against him. Now they'll be way better. If you buff him in other regards (he himself is an anti-mage, so idk, make his R do 100% of their AP or something), you'll just turn playing him into RPC. He'll be banned if someone wants to play a mage and will never be picked before the other mid laner for fear of getting roflstomped by an assassin pick. That is in no way healthy.

I wholeheartedly disagree. If Veigar draws situational bans, because the opponent wants to take a mage mid, that is absolutely ideal. I would love to get away from the pure power bans we tend to do in League, and more toward the tactical bans you tend to see in DotA.

I don't think you want to add more damage to Veigar. The kinds of buffs I'd have in mind are things like reducing the fall time and adding a slow on W. Give him more versatile tools, rather than just having 100-0 an AP champ as the only thing he can do.

Assassins were already good against him. Now they'll be way better.

You don't want lanes to be decided before they're played, but I think there is room for Veigar to be less safe than he is today. Veigar's ability to E under turret makes him quite difficult to dive for someone like Talon. I have no problem with Veigar having to stay out of Talon E range if Talon gets ahead in the lane, and I think you could still end up winning that sort of game if you're a skilled Veigar.

Your problem with comparing it to a Thresh Ult is that Thresh has two ways to hold people in the range. Veigar has zero. Thresh also doesn't care if his enemy is slowed or not, his goal is to keep them in a certain area. Veigar needs them to be stunned to land W.

It could be changed into something like the circle begins closing from Veigar's side and takes 0.5-0.75s to finish closing to the farther side, So Veigar could be able to insta-stun somebody (although getting close to the line of danger), but gives enemies time to react.

I think this is a step in the right direction, though I also believe it could use something else. Not sure yet how to get to the right place.
