How to fix Veigar, change his stun, keep his identity, and make him viable all at once. We all win!

Alright so it's pretty clear that Riot hates Veigar's stun, and I can honestly see why they do, but he was so balanced around it that he's useless without it. He was never OP, he was always very niche. Now he's begging Urgot to go out and play with him. This is how we can make everyone happy.

  1. Veigar's stun is REMOVED entirely. No more ragecage.

  2. Veigar's stun is replaced with a blackhole that slows people on the outer edges, but when they get too close to the center it pulls them in and suppresses stuns them. It will keep its size and range, but will function much like an Orianna ult with Leona ult targeting and slows on the outer 1/4 edge. It would have a delay/cast time of .25 seconds, and would have a warning when it's been cast, just like Leona's ulti.

What this does:

  1. It adds counterplay to his stun, which honestly already had some (tenacity, QSS, Banshee's, etc), by giving it a slight delay, warning, and it's effectively less frustrating to the enemy.

  2. It's also less frustrating for Veigar. Rather than having to land the very edge of his stun on an opponents head, he now lands the larger center portion on them instead.

  3. Speaking of less frustration the enemy will no longer get trapped inside his "rage cage", severely limiting their movement for 3 seconds. This isn't exactly counterplay, but rather removes one of the common hazards one has fighting a Veigar.

  4. Veigar's stun, while trickier to land now (smaller area of stun, fewer people stunned at once, only slows on the outer edge) is also much more rewarding. This is due to the fact that all enemies that DO get stunned in the middle portion are all dragged to the center of his ability, letting him potentially land W on multiple opponents at once after setting up a brilliant stun.

I think that this is the right way to go. The current stun changes are absolutely trash, and as a Veigar main I would gladly accept these changes to his stun.

This... Would actually probably be a much better solution than Riot actually did. It'd give him more utility and a bit more choice, not to mention, it'd make Veigar's W ACTUALLY USABLE. It could even keep the same name and still make thematical sense.

Riot is gonna have to actually compensate Veigar for this at some point though. There currently are only a few solutions to Veigar's problems, and it all boils down to Dark Matter and Event Horizon(W and E) being essentially worthless now. They're gonna have to either remove and rework his E and/or W, lower the drop time of his W or make the inside of the cage slow by a fairly large amount.

I don't think giving Veigar a .25 second delay Orianna ult AND AoE Malzahar ult is a good change (especially since the only counter to Suppression is QSS, Morgana's Black Shield, and Olaf). All this does is bring back almost the exact same problems his stun had, with the added bonus of it making his W always hit 2+ people if Veigar is good.

Stun then?

Stun then?

You aren't fixing any of his problems. Then you have a basically instant AoE stun + Ori ult instead of a basically instant AoE suppression + Ori ult.

He was my main for Season 4, and when I heard about this change I wasn't to sure how I was gonna feel. But after a practice game with bots and a normal game using him against a Yasuo I realized if it's a 1v1 you don't land the Stun as often because the whole 0.75 indicator actually is quite balanced. The only time I found myself landing my Stun was when I would get tower divided, or if I was to take odd angles to land it. That's a 1v1 but during a team fight it's as normal pretty easy to land.

What this does is give Veigar a better Leona ultimate on a basic ability. It also doesn't change the initial perceived (because if I don't put that word into a Veigar thread I will be downvoted by people who don't like my opinions rather than the discussion) problem - instant stun followed by a loss of all your health (not an exaggeration with Veigar) before the stun wears off.
