Spell Vamp And AOE

LOL Spammer··2 votes·974 views

Can we please change some spell vamp for certain spells so that they give full effectiveness. Such as Veigars Q. It is barely area of effect, it hits 2 targets yet the spell vamp is reduced to 1/3 effectiveness. Or at least we could increase it to like half so it actually gave back the full amount like other spells.

Except Spell Vamp itself is a balance issue in the first place.

By that logic so would lifesteal.

It kinda is. The issue with Spellvamp is that all vamprism effects are more or less useless on burst (Most mages) but incredibly useful on DPS (most marksmen.) Where Spellvamp had problems, however, is that it turned waveclear into full heals, hence the 33% effectiveness on AoE.

Of course, Lifesteal has the exact same issue, functions on more or less on champions with the exact same core goal (strong DPS and medium range), and just offers needless complexity (So these on-hit effects benefit from lifesteal, but these don't? And this abilities do, and these don't? Que?), so when you get right down to it they need to be rolled into the same stat that benefits from ALL damage dealt, but is only 33% effective against minions to limit sustain while rewarding dueling and harassment.

Would make more sense if the spell vamp was split among all targets. If your AOE hits 1 enemy then it is fully effective, 2 enemies would be 1/2 effectiveness, 5 enemies would be 1/5 effectiveness.

not all aoes apply damage to all targets instantly like ezreal's ult for example

So then give 100% spell vamp on first hit 50 on second 25 on third and so on.

So, basically, a spell can never heal more than a set amount, based on the spell's base and scaling damage, excluding the case of using a current/missing HP damage effect on a group of dissimilar units.

400 base damage and 100 from AP? 20% Spell Vamp? If you hit 1 unit, you gain (500 * 0.2) = 100 HP. If you hit 5 units, you gain ((500 * 5) * (0.2 * 0.2)) = 100 HP.

That...really doesn't fix the problem with Spell Vamp. It just punishes AoE mages' sustain with Spell Vamp.

You didn't even make a comparison with how spell vamp currently works. Current spell vamp would be weaker if less than 4 enemies are hit, and I don't care. This topic isn't about AoE spell vamp being weak, it's about the effectiveness of AoE spell vamp on 1 or 2 enemies. What I said makes AoE spell vamp a lot more useful when used on 1 or 2 enemies, which satisfies what the original post suggested.

Oh, let me fix that.

Spell vamp works at 1/3 effectiveness on AoE spells, so using that previous comparison;

500 damage to 1 target with 20% spell vamp on an AoE = (500 * (0.2 * 0.333)) = 33 HP gained.

500 damage to 5 targets with 20% spell vamp on an AoE = ((500 * 5) * (0.2 * 0.333) = 167 HP gained.

It also punishes AoE mages for hitting multiple targets, while rewarding them for hitting single targets.

No, it doesn't punish for hitting multiple targets, it would have the same effectiveness no matter how many targets were hit, it would just be weaker than current spell vamp is against 4 or more targets.

"It doesn't punish for hitting multiple targets, it just makes it weaker if you hit more than 3 units."

...And making it weaker isn't punishment because...?

You said it would punish AoE for hitting multiple targets, and that's wrong. "It also punishes AoE mages for hitting multiple targets, while rewarding them for hitting single targets." No it doesn't punish or reward because if it worked how I mentioned then it would have the same effectiveness no matter the amount of targets. You don't get punished for hitting multiple targets. Hopefully you understand what I'm saying because I'm not sure how to explain it better, but it seems that you just worded it wrong.

Basically, you're removing the one and only advantage that AoE spells have with Spell Vamp. Dealt 10000 damage with an AoE spell? Doesn't matter, it took 20 targets to deal that much, so you still get the same +100 HP that you would have gotten from hitting 1 target.

Yes, if you use an AoE spell on two minions/monsters, or if you're dueling a single champion, it helps your sustain a tiny bit. Meanwhile, the few mages who actually use Spell Vamp would be dealing with a harsh, indirect nerf to their sustain.

I'd make more sense if spell vamp gave the full heal, but only from one damage hit.

Skia Asteri1 votes

Yes, abilities that can only hit 2 targets should have 1/2 effectiveness.

i was really bummed that they raised veigar's q CD AND it had to be an AoE GOODBYE VEIGAR SUSTAIN BEAST
