So I see all the complaints about the new HUD but what about the things they did fix?

LOL Spammer·7/23/2015, 1:39:55 PM·197 votes·7,272 views

Just a short list:

  1. Added Ult Timers
  2. Added Summoners Cooldowns (Have to press tab to see)
  3. Adjustable player icons (You can move everybody into there lanes and compare to see who is winning the lane)
  4. A trinket timer
  5. Many other things

This is just a small list. Riot listened to the community. If you look at posts from a month ago you will find posts complaining about there not being ult timers. Not being summoners timers and not being able to decipher whether or not your trinket was ready to use. The problem with this community is that we are all pessimists, we all look at the things that we think Riot has messed up instead of looking at the things they have fixed.

Nothing wrong with the new HUD. All will be forgotten in a few weeks when the whiners get used to it. Mark my words.

EndlessSorcerer7/23/2015, 1:44:18 PM20 votes

I wouldn't say that the community is pessimistic.

I would say that a vocal minority of the community is pessimistic and doesn't like the new HUD while the majority either like it or don't particularly care either way.

The new features are nice, but it's worthless when you can't find that information quickly. Everything on the new HUD is jumbled together and the color contrast is about as bad as it can be. It takes 2-3 seconds to read some of the information, which is a lifetime in League.

ShuffledPancake7/23/2015, 1:50:45 PM15 votes

Majority say they dont like it the rest are unvoiced.

Thanks for making this post, as I would have had I had the time to do so earlier.

I'm very disappointed in the way the community is responding to this change, not that it surprises me.

Its one thing to provide constructive criticism or provide feedback, but the majority of these posts are simply rude complaints.

If you have feedback, give it in a civilized manner and offer alternatives, I'm seeing so many posts like "THE NEW HUD SUCKS ASSSSSSSSS", "I HATE THIS NEW HUD IT BLOWS", etc.

The same goes for all this bashing of the Fiora visual update. You people are being absolutely disrespectful to the artist who took the time to draw that splash art. Yes it looks different from the original, that is the point of a visual update. I'm absolutely disgusted how many people are flooding the forums with complaints on it. I personally don't think it looks all that bad, in fact I think its very well done. It is certainly different, but it still looks like Fiora. Again, the manner in which you provide your response to these changes can either make it feedback or disrespectful remarks.

Feedback is good, distasteful insults are not.

Nobody will listen to you if you're rude. Please try to be civil.

While all of that is true, you can barely see that information and MORE.

They did fix some yes but we can't see what is ALREADY there and what they fixed as well.

Eleshakai7/23/2015, 6:00:44 PM6 votes

WEll said OP. It's important, when complaining about something, to think about it from a neutral standpoint and assess the good and the bad. If you can't do this, your feedback is going to be flawed.

Nuclear Panda7/23/2015, 5:51:34 PM5 votes

They could have just added that to the old one.

"Many other things" is a horrible vague point to start off, because there aren't that many positive changes but I guess it's an easy way to bolster your viewpoint. No one asked Riot to change the visual layout of the UI.

Riot could have added all of these things without ruining the layout of the old HUD... That is everyone's main issue. It's not like the old HUD was a useless piece of shit that couldn't be improved, it worked for 5 years and to change a UI layout that people enjoy and have used since launch "just because" is a stupid reason to force people who don't like it to use it.

Take WoW's UI for example, the reason why it is so great and has stood the test of time is because people can mod it to the way THEY LIKE IT TO LOOK. What a concept I know

It's different than not agreeing with a balance change; this affects no one but the player playing the game. Why do you care if the other players want an option to tick it back to classic? How does that affect you in any way whatsoever?

kDrakari7/23/2015, 6:25:53 PM4 votes

I don't mind the new HUD. That said, all of those changes could have been made without changing the locations of everything or the look of everything. The biggest complaint that people have is that Riot crammed about 50% of all the information into a single corner which might seem efficient (Only look in one place, see all the info!) but it makes things MUCH more difficult when you're looking for only one thing (finding the HP of a particular ally) and as another poster pointed out it makes poor use of peripheral vision and quick glances.

I think that a lot of stuff will start being "fine" once people are used to it, but I don't think anybody would be unhappy if they just moved everything back to their original locations even with the new assets (maybe make some things larger) and the community would be ECSTATIC if they just put in the work to allow everything to be moved and resized freely. I don't know how much work that would be, but I know a lot of people would love to just rotate the ally champion portraits to vertical and stick them to the left.

I really think the new CD timers are a great idea. The problem is that I'm not going be looking toward my mini map while I play. My eyes are going to be on my character. So if they just put my allies information on the left side of the screen so I can just glance at it really quickly, that'd be perfect.

Otherwise, the new look isn't so bad. I just think a lot of information are clutterd into one space and overall it makes keeping track of my allies difficult.

The things riot has implemented in the new HUD are great, but were not at the level of efficiency the players have wanted No hate though, everyones gotta appreciate what riot does, because its not like we could do it better... But The fixes they added have their drawbacks

  1. The ult timers is a pie style timer, and people have requested a time style or (Minute.Seconds) style. On top of this, the pie timers are so small and unreadable just like most things in the new HUD

  2. The players wanted summoner CD's to be next to or adjacent to the ult timers for maximum efficiency. Riot stated that they moved death timers to the passive screen (Screen when playing) to negate having to press tab, but players will be just as often pressing tab because of the summoners cooldowns in that section. On top of this, the CD's are barely readable and literally the size of 10 pixels(for most monitors).

  3. This addition was great, nothing to complain about here honestly it is perfect. The only thing riot could have done better is the sizing of the tab screen along with the player modules in the tab screen.

  4. Trinket timers were a long time needed fix, glad it was fixed though

  5. Indeed many other things were ADDED but again, not to their optimal efficiency. Players on the PBE knew that the HUD had amazing potential but needed MANY tweaks before it hit live. If riot were to postpone the premature release of the new HUD until it was at its most optimal state, there would be no hate on it.

Manetceros7/23/2015, 11:16:05 PM3 votes

I like when the game changes. I'm usually excited for patch notes and reworks but this new UI leaves me feeling literally ill after playing a game.

Please riot, I love this game but I really don't think I can continue playing with this hud. Let us choose a "classic UI" option.

TheRealMondo7/23/2015, 11:11:08 PM2 votes

But when everything they "fixed" is unreadable they didn't fix it. I CAN NOT read half of the new things and some of the old are indescribable without glasses.

Ok so ive had time to subside my rage. Its.... ok.

That is my biggest issue before anything. Why change something that was fine instead of just improving on the last model. This is half baked and they have admitted it. That is the issue.

The tab menu is better the minimap isnt as clear around the edges of the unwalkable terrain and the clutter of information at the bottom right is too miniscule to be used effectively, and even feels like it is in the wrong location for what it is trying to convey. All the info on the botton right (except the cd timers on ult which i admit is great to know) is better off in the top where it use to be as a center focal point of the game itself. This includes cs, kda, team kda, game timer and baron/dragon timers. The items slot needs to be on the left as a side bar if you want to make it look cool.

AND I HATE HATE HATE THAT B ICON. WTF IS THAT THERE FOR. WHY DO I HAVE TO TAB TO SEE MY TP TIMER AS A TOP LANER? Very inefficient use of space is basically my second gripe about this new hud

redit: Oh almost forgot. Hieroglyphics for the c button stats. What are these symbols and why must i roll over to see that.

Also it would be nice to have the stats that are getting boosted highlighted in case youre not sure what rune page you picked. For example old hud would leave unaffected stats after runes and items white while the one that were yellow.

Just seeing if they'll at least fix this hud when I know they've already demonstrated they dont care to revert it (even though the last one was fine although artistically outdated.)

Migrañaboy7/24/2015, 4:45:34 AM2 votes

I don't like the sound effect when buying stuff anymore :_; not satisfactory

Dead Echo7/23/2015, 3:16:39 PM2 votes

I like the new HUD, It lets me see the ult timers of my team so I can coordinate with my team better in fights, I can see when I can't use an ablity because of an enemy's effect, I can compare my CS to my opponents by just clicking on them and not having to press tab and I have better vision of my level bar so I can see how much more ex I need to level up. In my opinion the size of the stats should be increased so I can see them better and the main stats (AD, AP, Armor, MR, etc.).

Hellmet7/24/2015, 5:34:12 AM2 votes

Sorry but I think it's a terrible change. Yes there are some things that are nice but it seems like for every nice thing that added they made mistakes in other areas. By far the 2 things that annoy me the most are:

  1. I can't move anything around, I want to play the game and adjust the UI the way I like, why am I stuck with what some Riot nerd thinks I like? Why in 2015 am I stuck with a UI that I can basically do nothing with? That's unacceptable.

  2. They changed the voice of the in game announcer to a man, for me it comes off to aggressive. For a game where you have to be 100% focused to play at a high level is very distracting to have it talk shit to you. If I wanted that experience I'd just join the trolls. The female voice was fine before.. well with that said the old UI was perfectly fine.

I really feel for the pro gamers who have trying to prepare for the world finals, what terrible timing by Riot.
