Why I prefer the new Meta.

I've been playing this game since early 2010. I am by no means a fantastic player for the amount of time I've played, I am actually quite sub par due to my inconsistency in games. Anyway, due to the amount of time I've played I've seen the game evolve and change in so many ways, and I will admit sometimes I disagree with the choices Riot makes to create a new game experience. However, of all the changes in this game the previous meta (Juggernaut tanks/40-45 minute games on average) was by far the worst of all time.

Every ranked game was the same exact thing. Whoever had the best late game team won as long as they didn't completely throw. Whoever had the better Vayne or Jinx (If they weren't banned) 40 minutes in won due to the ridiculous scaling. Winning early was extremely hard, even if you played excellently and pushed objectives. The picks were stale and common due to so many champions being absurdly useless compared to other choices. At least we now have a variety of team comps that are viable now. And of course as stated above, having each game on average last for so long made losing infuriating. Sure you can complain that games are too short now, but losing multiple matches that took almost an hour per game to play is way worse imo.

This is only the pre-season too. There will be plenty of changes to come to tweak the game for both s6 and competitive play. For the first time in months I am actually enjoying playing the game because of the freshness. I don't understand this bandwagon of hatred. Yeah comebacks are less relevant, and games are often too short/decided, but I prefer those easily fixable things over the shit meta that we had before.

These are just my thoughts, feel free to pounce on all my plebness.

My favourite aspect of the preseason is how Juggernauts can't run 30 points in the defensive mastery tree and wreck face against pretty much any teamcomp. Also, the pool of viable ADCs feels a lot broader.

i play the game just as long and i disagree.

this is the worst patch in years.

before 5.22 they finally got to a point where bruisers, melee adc, marksmen and even some mages could have an equal impact on the game and each of them could carry when they got aead early.

this patch and the entire design direction of the changes destoyed everything theyve built up previously. a lot of mages were still on the weak side due to mana issues. lategame tanks blew up a bit too fast, and assassins just about did their job. but overall we didnt have 1 single lategame class, the game depends on. and chances for comebacks through teamplay existed.

the games are ridiculously marksmen centric again. most of your games depend on the win or loss of bot lane due to how overtuned their items and masteries are. the games are short and snowbally instead of teamfight oriented. they may last 30 minutes, but theyre decided by 15 minutes, as the best that a team at a disadvantage can do is drag it out.

they overloaded a class thats balanced around being squishy with options for % damage reduction. marksmen have better defensive stats on their offensive core items than tanks, and better cdr itemization than casters with essence reaver.

the problem isnt that the game is imbalanced. its always imbalanced in preseason., the problem is that a lot of what theyre trying to achieve with these changes is absolutely dumb and turns the game into a pile of shit.

this game is turning into 1 marksman carrying the game and 4 supports again. if your bot lane lost, youre not able to compensate anymore no matter how good youre doing yourself.

the nerf of tp means you have less of an impact on how your bot lane turns out aswell.

Tankie DPS is still too powerful. Mages are too weak.

The new items specific to Summoner's Rift (Cinder like items) are a terrible addition to the game.

also to clarify. my problem is not with the kit changes of most marksmen (except vayne, because thats just plain bullshit). it was necessary to get some diversity int he class and not have 90% of their job overlap. dealing stupid amounts of damage with auto attacks. but their new items an masteries are so stupidly overtuned.

It feels like mages are weaker now, except for DoT mages, who are now seeing nerfs because they work too well with a mastery nobody asked for. Honestly, I never thought I'd see Anivia on the PBE "nerfs" list.

Yea I agree. I love me some tanks but that meta got out of hand. You could really be ahead most of the game and not finish off your opponents. Which led to a lot of late game team fights and a potential loss in the end.

I still seem to play longer games, with some comebacks. Its just now if your team is ahead it is easier to finish off your opponents, which I believe is the way things should be.

I am sure things will be toned down a bit by the start of season 6 anyways.

The game was kind of balanced before the juggernaut's introduction.

i basically like all changes in s6 except two.

  1. junglers lost a very sweet income bonus that enabled farming junglers. now the lcs-jungle style of "be a total bitch for your lanes" is enforced way more than last season even.
  2. the new masteries are a joke entirely.

what i would like: give each individual jungle item +10 gold per large monster killed and the upgraded one +20. all good. secondly: bring back old masteries, rework some deeper defensive tree masteries to actually give defensive things and remove all 21-point-masteries and instead add 3 keystone masteries to each tree of which you can choose only one.

beautiful, now we have good masteries that actually do things and we still have keystones so rito is happy too. big love.

Also, it's not like comebacks never happen in this meta or something. Gameplay and no Balance likes to exaggerate.
