People who hate to play support, why?

Just curious what your personal reasons are if you just dont like to play support. Lack of intereseting champions? get flamed alot? other reasons? What would it take for you to want to play it?

I don't trust my teammate.

Incredibly boring. You're completely irrelevant past laning phase, and your laning phase is gated by how good your ADC is.

I'll play it when I can do something as the support.

I love support but you get a lack of appreciation imo. Them killer hooks get you no love. Those lifesaving heals get you no love. Nothing you do get you no love. But, your fed adc, gets a trip, it's gg. No supp, no love. item 3070

  1. Because your impact on the game is severely limited by how good your ADC is.
  2. Because you ain't the star. Darius gets a penta? WOOHOO NICE GJ MAN. Now not only supports lack the tools to get lots of kills, they are also expected to suck the cocks of all teammates and give the gold to someone else who probably doesn't deserve it.
  3. Because it is one of the least exciting roles in the game. While your toplane is in a deadly faceoff you're cruising the map, planting the wards for lazy ass teammates who, more than likely, sit on two trinket charges for tens of minutes. Soo fun.

There's a lot of factors as to why there aren't more supports out there. Again, I've talked about it endlessly since I started playing, but there has been a huge vein of horrific maltreatment towards supports, to the point now that JUNGLING for me, as a support main, is like a vacation. I've equated it in the past to civil rights issues, as unfair a comparison as that is to make, but some of the maltreatments evoke a lot of comparisons. I've gotten yelled at and reported for having kills as a support. One time I "stole" a triple kill from a Zed as the support, even though I was the only target in that fight and he was content enough to stand to the side and watch it happen, waiting for me to die before he'd swoop in and clean up. Supports have the least amount of gold income than the rest of the team by a mile, yet they're expected to carry the water of an entire team that wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

There's also an insane form of cognitive dissonance when it comes to supports. I insist on being last pick because I actually observe the picks on both sides and adjust accordingly, then I'm told that the impact of the support is inconsequential, yet somehow their role in the game is absolutely pivotal at the same time. I've been told this IN THE SAME BREATH. Then there are the people (read: the ADCs) who think they're entitled enough that they have absolute reign over who their support will be, as well as their build, and that if the support doesn't do a good enough job, they can be reported and permabanned.

That's a tip of the iceberg in terms of problems the supports have had for years, and it has been so systematic (community-wise, regardless of Riot's efforts to stop it) that now that Dynamic Queue is a thing, there are impossibly long queue times just waiting for a support to drop in, and the rest of the community is now reaping what they have sown for years. Honestly, I'm tired of talking about it. I've made endless threads and posts about this, yet nobody seems to understand or listen.

It's harder to influence the game as a support compared to other roles. If I'm jungling, and a lane is feeding horribly, I can still take action on the entire map and push us towards a win. As a support, I'm at the mercy of my teammates to follow up with damage, look at the wards I place, listen to pings, etc.

If I play a perfect game as a support, I can still lose. If I play a sub-optimal game as another role, I can still win.

That's the main issue for me.

Yesterday I gave a Caitlyn free kills as a blitz. She didn't push lanes or take towers. She took jung camps. We lost. I have to climb a bit higher before going back to supp because you can get an idiot fed but you can't make them use their power.

Give Taric a try (before he's reworked).

Once you have Face of the Mountain, Sightstone and Iceborn Gauntlet, you are essentially a high-utility bruiser and you only get stronger from there.

People don't like to play support you can't get 7 pentas with Janna and crowd adulation.

I don't like to play support because there's no way for me to contribute to the team. I have no problem with not being able to get a bunch of kills or do a bunch of damage. I have no problem with not being able to absorb a significant amount of damage. I do have a problem with being a very thin meat shield whose sole reason for being on a team is "because this set of champions functions better with 0 gold than other sets of champions".

The gold item needs to be changed a little bit. The gold generation should be enough to supports on equal footing with everyone else, while only being accessible to certain champions - i.e. the ones Riot wants to be supports. These items would be limited to one per team. Then, supports can get relevant ratios on their abilities, even if the ratios are just utility ratios, similar to what we have now.

As a support main. I can honestly say that a bigger can of worms than you want to deal with.

For starters, As much as I sympathies for supports not having enough gold. It's impossible to religate between all Elos, because Lane gold is going to differ with skill. What would be enough gold in Plat+ may be overbearing in Bronze. And if Supports could keep up with lane farm. Everyone would abuse it. (like they did with FQC) Unless you stat bind it to not taking CS. Except that would just make CSing completely irrelevant, Because they can just get the support item, and get the gold.

Binding it to specific champs isn't a good idea, as it completely eliminate off meta picks, or any kind of experimentation. (And nothing says Fck support, more that limiting our options) And you really can't bind it to a summoner either. People worked around taking smite, just to grab the Jungle items. And supports, really arn't defined by their summoner choices. Lastly, the One per team rule, is the absolute worse idea, Cause again, everyone will want to abuse it if it's a powerful as you want it. And people with threaten to AFK if they can't build it, just because somebody else has it.

Are you implying that's now how it is now?

There are champions Riot wants to be supports and champions they don't want to be supports. If they're going to balance the game, they have to make that choice for each individual champion, and for the most part already have. If a non-support is functioning well as a support, there is a problem and that needs to be fixed anyway.

I would broadly disagree with that statement. Only a hand full of champs are actually stat bound to the support role. As a result of having few combat abilities. (either offensive or defensive) Or having abilities relying on your ally.

A lot of other champions are permitted that duality, and should keep such duality. Take Tahm Kench for example. Riot was trying to make a top lane tank when creating him, but found his fantasy to involve more Supportive features. And Riot decided to keep that duality, instead of trying to rework his kit prior to launch. And when I look at Lulu, I still think she's a good support. She has plenty of utility to offer her team, even without building AP. The only way her solo lane builds could really prevent her from playing as support is either. a) She gets banned for her mid lane power, or b) playing her as support means giving her up as a midlaner. Both of which only come up in organized play.

about the only champs they don't want to be supports is if their kits allow them to be oppressive in the support role. Though that's usually indicative that they're oppressive in general.

Can't play my favorite champions there.

Edit: Except rarely, Sion. I'm too afraid that people will call Sion support Troll.

SpongebobIsLife2 votes

for me it's boring. I don't like how useless I feel as a support, for the most part I do zero damage, but have plenty of utility. What this means is that I have to put all my faith in winning the game in the rest of the players of my team, which I hate. Even if I play a mage support, theres only so much I can do with that limited income.
For me to want to play support, league would have to take up a system similar to Dawngate, where the support income was the same as the carries income as long as the support was poking properly. That why I can still reliably carry my mid mages bot lane and keep up in items.

Mellori2 votes

I personally love to play support but never in ranked, even though I get stuck with support in ranked more often than not.

Most supports, even carry supports, can't truly carry a game. I end up feeling useless.

Not only that, but unless you're perfect with wards and engages, 80% of ADCs will flame you.

Zenithir2 votes

Supporting (or any role this season) seems feast or famine to me. You either do well or you're basically irrecoverable. Champion pool is something that seriously gets to me too, look at how expensive the common support picks are these days. I'm leveling another account right now and I have to say that there are games when I wish I had decent support options for multiple comps.

MohawkBird2 votes

I hate support because it's the same goddamn thing every game. Walk into lane, occasionally harass the enemy, toss out CC for the enemy, peel for your carries. There is literally no diversity (or at least not a lot) when playing support. I can play Thresh support, and the laning phase will feel almost the same as if I were playing Braum support.

Just too much repetition with no diverse playstyles, or at least as much diversity as I would like.

Sir Yamazuki1 votes

I don't like it because it makes me feel bad knowing my adc is basically 1v2ing since I'm a garbage laner.

Only play one champion and it's an awful support.

YumScrumptious961 votes

I like playing supports only if I'm in duo queue with my friend going adc. Otherwise you get stuck with over cocky adc's or just bad players. Also its impossible to carry with support. No matter the hooks I get on the enemy carry my team will lose and blame me or the jungler.

Troll Armada1 votes

bottom lane is broken completely.

It is just too easy to troll as support, and not be even remotely reportable. CS stealing, turret hugging,, lane leaving.... nobody else on your team will blame support, instead adc gets blamed for being ' bad '

As for support, same thing, it is too easy for adc's to draw you into no-win situations which you will get blamed for if you die or don't follow.

Basically, the risks of going into the game as a solo player asking for bot lane are just too much.

DrNova1 votes

Because I'm in bronze, and I'm not lucky when it comes to matchmaking. I am on the team with the bad ADC (or bad game, whatever) probably 75% of the time.

And it is incredibly frustrating to be doing everything you can and be blamed for every mistake your ADC does.

I love to play support due to the nature of my fetish, as mentioned in another post.

Well, I play support cuz I'm a sadist (often harass bot opponents), masochist (facetank dmg for teammates), and stalker (knowing where enemies are by placing wards). I also get jealous very easily when my adc's so popular the entire enemy team chases after him/her to the point where I resort to violence and restrain them in order to get them to look at me.

But I guess most ppl are too normal to find joy in what I strive for.

I enjoy playing Talon (he's my main), Lucian, Yasuo, Khazix, Diana, and Zed. That being said, I usually don't go support. The only time I do go support is with Kayle. I guess I just don't enjoy it as much because there's so much fun in killing other champions. When I do go support, it's because all the other roles have been called, or I just don't feel like jungling. It is fun seeing your ADC have so many kills, and then realizing their number of kills is equal to your number of assists, but I honestly enjoy doing the actual job itself instead of just doing the behind the scenes work. Because there's no such thing as a "Pentassist!"

Support main checking in. In so many words, most of you are saying "I don't play support because I can't carry a game as support."

If you haven't carried a game as support, you're not supporting hard enough.[slayer-jinx-wink]

Seriously, the right engage, the right ward that gets a pick, the heal that saves your carry, etc, etc. As a support you do the stuff that wins games as much or more than anyone else on the team. Do you get the props and the promise of sexual favors when you pull that off? Not usually. I guess if that's what you're looking for, you shouldn't play support. And yes, sometimes you get teammates that are the worst. But how is that different than any other role? If anything, you can do more about it from the support role. Enemy jungler camping your mid and making him tilt? Take a detour on the way back to bot and ward up his lane. Trynd or udyr splitpush making your team go nuts? Get banner of command and zzrot and stop it cold. The right support brings a crapton of stuff to the team-- I'll admit, it's not particularly sexy most of the time, but it's the stuff that wins games. I know people want to be Steph Curry instead of Draymond Green, but you want to win, you need both.

I'm a Jungle/Support main, or I should say_ I used to main Support_.

I no longer play support because of the mastery changes, the pacing of the game and the ward changes has pushed me out of my support tank role to the point that it is no longer fun and impactful in my shoes.

I'm down to only one role with one jungler with a subpar ADC role with only my one old ADC main

So, I read a few of the answers here, and basically it boils down to "I want the limelights on me" or "I don't understand the power I have".

Except the top comment, talking about trusting your team, and I agree with that, that's basically for this same reason that I transitioned from Tanks to Juggernaut. Tanks can set up good fights, they cannot win them...

hOI! Support main since Season 3 here! I'll tell you why based on my own experiences.

  • I've had so many Vayne try to 1 v 4 a four-man gank in bot lane and cry why they died... or tumble into Blitzcrank hooks.
  • I've had a Lucian that AFK'd in a ranked game because he didn't understand item 3401 EXECUTES minions and gives us both gold and goodies.
  • ADCs that NEVER use item 3340 or item 3363 then wonder why they're in the middle of river with the entire enemy team on them and crying why I'm not with their 1/9 scrub ass over the mid/top laner that's 8/0. I'm going to defend the ACTUAL carry.
  • Annie /Brand "support." They can make it hard to lane, although I'm a Nami main so I just heal right out of it.... the ADC gets to close too often and they pop.
  • TahmKench problems. While this fat catfish causes me problems, they're indirect. Land a FABULOUS Nami bubble? NOM! And now the enemy ADC is completely safe, despite being punished for poor positioning. I wouldn't say Tahm is all THAT bad, but he's pretty damn annoying.... He gets worse if he does okay or well mid/late game.

Might come back later and add more to my adventures through low elo. Working on getting through Silver and going for the Gold.

Because there's no glory in it. No one cares about assists, it's all about the PENTAKILLS that your other teammates are sure to pick up at some point.

Also, unless you're playing "supports" like Annie Brand Morgana you most likely do next to no damage. I may ninja a lot of kills with Nami 's W, but that's just because the rest of my team got them down far enough to make that possible. If you're in a low elo situation like mine, the support role won't get you out of it if you think that you're better than where you currently are because of your dependence on your teammates to follow through with your engage.

Nami is my favorite champion to play, and if I notice that I'm making less mistakes as my games go on, I'm getting better at playing her, and I'm contributing as much to the team as I can, that gives me enough satisfaction. I don't give a damn what my rank is, I'm not trying to prove anything to anybody about that. As long as I see myself improving, that's good enough.

For most people though, it isn't. They'll want that emblem next to their name to be shinier, and maining support isn't going to help towards that, which is probably one of the greatest aversions to it along with the "no glory" thing.

I typically have always filled in ranked, and now with the new champ select when I actually try to select the fill role it seems that I end up placed in support far more often than any other role. While I actually somewhat like supporting, the repetition can become quite boring for me.

Mirage Seraph1 votes

I honestly don't mind playing Support. I just hate having to rely on my ADC to follow up, CS properly, not go in 1v2, not turret dive, etc, etc. I hate playing ADC for the same reason. I'll typically only play the two roles when I'm with my group.

Cyndercat1 votes

Im a support main. Granted I havnt been playing that long and im only silver but here are my reasons why I sometimes hate the support role:

  1. Heavily team reliant. Supports can carry games by timing CC's peeling ect but if you land a perfect CC/engage and get no follow up or your team carry ignores the wards you placed and gets caught stupidly theres very little you can do.

  2. No recognition and all the blame. You can win an entire team fight by peeling for your carry and shielding at the right times but noone will ever notice. It gets tiresome after a while seeing in chat this adc god omg so good when you are working you ass off to set up their kills. The second things go wrong however its always 'why didnt you ward that bush, why didnt you stun him, why arent you defending me' This is especially frustrating in low elo where im at, as you cant leave lane for even a second to roam/back for items or your adc is dead half the time and you get 'sup where were you!!!'

  3. Always behind in exp and gold. Its not fun to be 2 levels behind everyone else and desperately trying to grab exp wherever you can find it to keep up because you went mid to ward twice.

  4. Team seems to think you are least important and they have the right to demand what you play, even down to the specific champion. Comp lacking a tank? Better demand the support take thresh regardless of what they want to play. Comp lacking AP because mid wants to play zed? Noone else will change their pick.
