Why is aphelios so ridiculously strong through base stats if he is supposedly "complex"?

Frontline Fury·12/15/2019, 4:38:56 PM·51 votes·19,550 views

At the moment Aphelios can right click every other marksman in the game to death 1 on 1 in the early game, even Draven and Xayah. Why is he so absurdly strong for a supposedly "complex" champion? Shouldn't he, i don't know, actually have some requirement to use that complex kit of his? Not just stand still without swapping weapons and still winning every trade, every duel and every all-in?

Riot has always aimed for "harder to play should mean more powerful so it rewards you for that harder play" but they always tune them too high so no matter any complexities, you don't really need to master them, just smash the top left of your keyboard.

Also the kind of champions people feel good about when they do well. So we end up with a buncha flashy champs that are too powerful because Riot caters to making people feel good about themselves, it keeps people around.

Riot calling Aphelios a hard champion just shows they don't understand the game...

Because he's a Draven. He has very little mobility or viable self peel against strong divers, and his kit while giving him options brings limitations of his own.

Don't expect to see Aphelios over Kai'sa/Xayah/Caitlyn anytime soon because all those three can self peel far better and in a game where ADC's determine the tide of a fight, self preservation rules all. There's a reason Draven and Kog'maw don't see the light of LCS but Xayah/Kai'sa do.

Of the immobile ADC's only Ashe has seen play, and that's because of the sheer utility she brings.

I had to deal with him top earlier today, you cannot win a 1v1 trade vs him early it's actually ridiculous.

Darkdemon65312/15/2019, 6:51:48 PM5 votes

No, complexity should not be linked to strength in any way.

Killer of Night912/15/2019, 9:19:28 PM5 votes

I mean 1v1 vayne and kai'sa on early is really easy. Even jinx and kog maw can win that. Draven on other hand win against aphelios really easy. Btw 3/4 of the roaster is right click based and doesn't have complex mechanix.

Blame CertainlyT, he once again made a Champ that will never be balanced. Thank god he is gone from lol now.

FSRER12/16/2019, 12:54:42 PM3 votes

And here you raise another question. Why is Draven able to 1v1 every single ADC in the game early, mid and late game? Just because you play him 10 games to learn the axe pattern, should you be allowed to deal that much damage? Same goes for Aphelios who gets way too much free crap from his abilities and basic stats that you can rush him full damage (crit and lethality) without having any drawbacks

They overbuff complex champions so people play it. Once people learn it and/or gets abused to high heaven in pro play, they're nerf it. He's extremely overtuned

Raiyza12/15/2019, 8:38:04 PM3 votes

He's at the mercy of the weapons he has at that time. You can take advantage of it.

For example, if he has the rifle, hang back a bit. Once he has the sidearm, go all in or poke. Etc etc. He is a bit strong but he has weaknesses.

His winrate is still absolute ass. Yes, winrate usually is not a good indicator of strength but when its absurdly low in plat+ (hes 45%-ish right now), its a good sign hes not overpowered.

Ok, you're a liar. Obviously a liar. Aphelios's counters are literally Draven and Xayah. And you're a liar using lies to help your situation. My adc main is Draven, I play him almost daily when I'm bored of jungle. Since Aphelios's release I've never lost to him, he's ez to counter. Just outplay him, is that hard for new players? Oh right, new players are born with Zoe to Senna so they know nothing about "outplaying". So, your point is bullshit, Aphelios isn't strong, he's balanced. He just played better than you and outplayed your ass so goddamn hard that you came here to complain. 33 other people got outplayed by him too. + He isn't that hard to play, just as hard as Draven. So, instead of crying about balanced champions. Cry about champs like Qiyanna.

I hate hypocrisy...

Same person who made yasuo, zoe, reworked akali, darius, and morde. You have to assume every champion he releases are broken op because CertainlyT has no idea how to make actual functional champions without an overloaded kit.

Håneri12/16/2019, 5:21:24 PM1 votes

he is extremely weak to divers/assassins. im no expert but i have yet to find a way to deal with the enemy leblanc from jumping in and 1shotting me

XJ9999999999999912/16/2019, 4:17:33 AM1 votes

he'll be nerfed later.

"complex" champions tend to be broken flat out so the average player can do well.

Eternal Torment12/15/2019, 9:03:54 PM1 votes

Aphelios' big weakness is, surprisingly enough, a tank. He has zero tools to deal with high armor numbers because he doesn't have any big number instant burst Abilities and mostly relies through right clicking, as you said. I just had a game as a Sion and he could NOT kill me no matter how hard he tried.
