A word from a Quinn and Kog'Maw main regarding the Preseason changes [Copied from Eu]
This really impressed, so I thought it should be on the na boards aswell due to the larger memberbase The original author is ClawedParasite from EUW you cn find the original article here
Dear Rito, Dear community,
since the Riot team is working on changes to both of my favourite champions I thought I'd put in my 2 cents. I'm not saying I were a good Kog'maw or someone who knew what Quinn should be like, I simply love both of them and hope they don't get messed with.
If the post is too long for you, read the parts in bold as a TL;DR
First let's talk about Quinn. I play her mostly as a marksman simply because that's my main role. [Off-topic: I admit that she does not completely fit the meta as ADC because of her weaknesses in many late game teamfighting situations but she can definitely be played there, at least in my ELO, and in many situations she feels even stronger than other ADCs, even in teamfights - I know no ADC that can protect herself from AD-assassins as well as Quinn does and still do high damage to whoever is trying to kill them.]
What I love most about [ADC] Quinn are the following unique qualities that no other marksman has (in one person):
- ability to assassinate and out-duel most enemy ADCs in late game, even if behind
- good self-peel through E
- relatively good escape through popping ult and flying away
- noone gets away from Valor: either you kill him or he kills you, the chasing potential is insane
- strong early laning phase, it's quite easy to dominate bot with a decent support against most ADCs
- backdoor potential: an open inhib is free gold for Valor with his awesome AS and MS
As things stand now, literally all except one of these points are going to be changed. Less duelling power, no AS on Valor, no instant ult-popping, harder to chase people since activating E as Valor now will still put you in Quinn-range from the target. I'm not saying the rework is bad, I believe that Quinn will, with the new kit, find a new player base of mostly mid mains, but that's the point: New player base. I'm afraid that most Quinn mains will be frustrated if these changes go through.
As a side note: In my opinion, Quinn's biggest weakness is not in her kit (I admit, there's a lot of bugs and she might have a strange auto-attack animation, but those things can be dealt with). Her problem is - at least from my experience - player's opinions on her. When I pick her, I have like a 60% chance that I'm going to be either flamed, ignored or reported simply for picking her! In more games (where my team is losing) than not I'm the one winning lane and doing just fine, even hard-carrying from Top lane and being the only one with a decent KDA and on top of that telling my team politely that we can win and shouldn't flame each other. Still, in many player's heads it's just "Quinn = bad champ", no matter how well a Quinn is actually doing.
I have to admit that some reworks that Rito made turned out to be awesome even if I was not at all amazed when I read the changes (Sivir), but to me this sounds just too far away from what I appreciate about Quinn.
Now I'm coming to Kog'Maw, my most beloved and cutest champion that has ever exploded on the Rift. The changes to him are far less "hard" than the rework Quinn might go through. Still, I have some thoughts to share:
Kog'Maw is in his current state already extremely hard to play (not only, but especially) in SoloQ. That is because many players are able to think "If I don't kill the enemy Kog he's going to kill my team" and focus him hard. But far fewer people think like "If I don't CC that Zed/Yasuo/Rengar etc. they are going to kill my Kog and then we lose the teamfight" [remember, I'm talking about my ELO, that means gold]. Now imagine the Kog is not able to move unless he's OK with losing a huge amount of DPS!
On the other hand, pro players will surely be able to get the most out of Kog's new insane DPS. This might sooner or later lead to a question of balancing for Rito: "Do we keep his damage low enough to not force every Pro team into playing a protect-the-Kog comp simply because it outdamages every other composition if executed well, even if that implifies that no one ever is going to play him in SoloQ because there it is simply impossible to stand still long enough to do damage without being killed?"
Now read the above sentence again, it's too complicated to understand after one read.
As a summary, Rito pls: Don't take Quinn's (and Valor's!!) whole identity away just to make her roaming potential insane. It's not worth the cost. And don't make Kog'Maw unplayable in SoloQ.
Thank you for your attention. I'd love to see a red response here, by the way.
Oh, and if you are a Quinn player, feel free to vote whether or not you like the incoming changes to her.
