PSA -The Map Needs to be Dark this Season

All of you guys making threads about pink trinkets, green wards and yellow CD/duration, you should understand the key point of the vision changes: Riot wants the map to be darker.

They said this in the original patch notes for the preseason. However, Riot didn't explain WHY the map needs to be dark, so I will.

In order for the marksmen rework to be successful, Riot needed to do so many things. In the juggernaut patch, they nerfed armor across the board. To make sure supports could handle mid game against these beasts, they increased the generation of every gold item. And finally, to make sure marksmen wouldn't be too strong, they nerfed vision.

Vision is the rare defense champions have against a marks man's natural predator: the assassin. Assassins have low counterplay, high speed kits, so the way you defend yourself is with precise warding and positioning.

With marksmen getting insanely strong in the preseason it was necessary to buff assassins in order to keep them in line (sadly Riot didn't predict just how much the LW changes would affect assassins).

If vision comes back we will have two or three marksmen on every team just because no one can stop them. Riot is already going out of their way to nerf tanks so they don't counter marksmen. Assassins are necessary to keep balance this season, and assassins need a dark map.

Also if you're an AP Mage main, my condolences.

Zed Balance is weakness.

Huh, that is a very conspiratorial way of looking at it...

I like it.

You know, until that mage rework comes around in 2016, likely making them super OP because of more itemization options.

Well put. While itemization for AP mids has never been worse, mid laners in general are still in a very strong position to snowball every lane due to the lack of availability for wards early on. They're possibly at their strongest position to carry ever.

I don't see why immobile AP mages need to get the short end of the stick. As if Riot wasn't already pushing players enough towards the league of mobility. This isn't balancing.

Mages are nerfed so that mid laners are encouraged to play assassins. Once the meta shifts and assassins have 20+ pick rates Riot can safely buff marksmen and know that people won't just all start losing the next day because they're already counterpicking.

Again, that's not balance :P

No, it's not. It's careful enforcement of the meta in order to promote a specific playstyle without a large public backlash.

i hope they don't just rework 2 mages and call it a day, they need more itemization options.

Not really. They have defense (Rylai's, RoA, Abyssal, WotA, Zhonya's), offensive (Luden's, Liandry's, Rabadon's, Void Staff, Lich Bane) and utility (Athene's, Morello, Banner of Command).

What else could they need?

I mean, I don't know that I think they thought it out that completely...

I think the map was too bright last season in general. There were just too many wards, to the point that buying wards was better than buying items. That's why the option is now gone. Now, you have to buy items and ward more intelligently, instead of spamming wards. That's better for game health regardless of your points.

And, I think the map is too dark right now. I think yellow trink needs a buff, personally. A small one, maybe, but definitely needs a buff.
