I need to broaden my junglers.

So I just played a normal draft game and I chose jungle. Normally I play Sion in the jungle, but everyone was against it and we already had a Leona for tanky CC. So I went Jax. This was a mistake, mainly because I don't play Jax much and I have a tanky mindset. I ended up being detrimental to the team (I died in almost every gank and was all around uncomfortable with my innate squishiness). I would have tried the new Poppy, but the enemy team banned her.

So I ask you boards, which junglers would you recommend? I mainly play Sion and I enjoy playing tanks that don't always need their team to kill someone (I've been fed as Sion before. I don't aim to get fed, but I don't mind being able to kill). I also try to bring some utility (with Sion I get some CC and engage, with is nice) to the team since doing only damage makes me feel completely useless when behind (like how I felt with Jax). Which junglers would help me in that regard?

For tank junglers I always look to DrMundo Gragas Zac Rammus TahmKench Skarner RekSai Volibear Trundle Udyr You can also consider tanky Olaf

Every one of these champions aside from Tahm and Gragas (only due to his ultimate) is super easy to play in the jungle, and always pretty good. They are all tanks, or can be built tanky with high success.

For anyone with a clue of what they're doing, RekSai is not a tank jungler, she's an AD bruiser. 1-2 damage items into tank.

Cinderhulk, cleaver, full tank is still a completely viable build and sometimes necessary to fill the needs of your team.

Warrior, cleaver, into tank is typically better, but tank works just fine.

I would add Amumu and Sejuani

Also, I don't believe Udyr and Skarner are Tanks, but if you include them, you should include Warwick

And finally, Trundle is more an anti-Tank than a true tank himself.

Amumu would have been a good addition, but I don't include Sejuani as her clear is so painfully difficult early game, and honestly, she's just a long range amumu when it comes to her ultimate, with a worse clear.

I don't see much of a damage build on Udyr any longer, everything seems to lean more towards tank items for him, and furthermore Skarner builds as one of the juggernaut champions primarily builds tank, the common build only includes black cleaver, and maybe titanic hydra in terms of "damage items"

I don't include Warwick as most of the builds I've seen for him have been on hit item focus, maybe two tank items.

Chogath Easy Jungle, Decent CC, Silence, Huge always viable Ult, Can be Tank or AP Tank JarvanIV Average Jungle, Decent CC, Only needs one damage Item really and can then go Tanky Nautilus Slow but Easy Jungle, Ridiculous CC, No damage but with CDR and full tank becomes near unkillable excluding team fights. Sejuani Slow and Average Jungle, Good CC, Can be built many ways with many items and become a super tank if you wish. Vi Easy Jungle, Good CC, Always viable and can carry teams shes more of a bruiser than a tank but is damn near always useful. Zac Hard Jungle, Good CC, Zac can do anything you would want in a jungler, but you gotta master him first and I have yet to do so.

Braum is pretty broad.

If you like Sion's play pattern and strategic niche, try Cho'Gath. Can build tanky, damage, or anywhere in between and has a telegraphed CC playstyle.

Well Cho is free this week.

Honestly, I think you would have been fine with Sion. Having two tanks is fine, you don't want more than two-three carries anyway (and metas with four carries are generally unhealthy, but that's just my opinion). Thing is, while support tanks have natural steroids, they operate on a lower gold income and tend to get more utility items rather than straight tank items (they can't afford). You, as a jungler, can. Support tanks have a different job than laning/jungler tanks, after all. You could have done your job, she could have done hers, and who cares if you're not a carry if the enemy is chain cc'd by your ult to catch them out and Leona's kit to make them stay there and take punishment?

Honestly I keep thinking I should have went Sion and not given into the peer pressure of my first draft. A friend told me that Sion had issues with sustain, which with my runes being 6/6/18 I don't have that much of an issue.

Mistakes were made I guess.

Try ZacZac, he has great engage and CC in ganks, strong sustain in clearing too. He's also very hard to kill due to a lot of healing and his passive that lets him revive.

Also, SejuaniSejuani might be a good pick for you. Great engage, even better than Zac's but not quite as long range. Very tanky, quite a lot of damage.

Give those 2 a try. :)

I do have Sej. I should pick her back up.

Squidblimp1 votes

Yeah. Engage seems to be your thing. Also, I could recommend NautilusNautilus to you too. His engage is godlike, and he is just oozing with CC and tankiness. Anyways, don't listen when people say not to pick the champs you're good at. Sion jungle is really good, even if he's not meta. Good clear, amazing ganks, scales great with Cinderhulk.

Thinking about it, you're probably right. I tend to rush into fights even on characters that shouldn't. I guess I like characters that benefit from engaging the enemy.

How much is Nautilus?

Squidblimp1 votes

Nautilus is 4,800, and Zac is 6,300. Nautilus has better CC and is easier to play, but Zac has better long-range surprise ganks and clear. Zac can clear without using ANY health potions, it's insane.

Looks like I got some saving to do.
