Will exhaust kill ruin the assassin update?

Oakleaf Ranger··3 votes·808 views

A lot of streamers and high level players are saying the assassin update won't mean much because of how effective exhaust is as a counter to assassins. So does exhaust need to be nerfed or changed up? Does riot have concerns for this or are they going to take a wait and see approach?

Exhaust is fine. It's meant to be a defense aginst assassins and burst champions. "We need to nerf bulletproof vests because there are new guns coming out."

Exhaust's cooldown is higher than most assassin's cooldowns, so there's really zero reason to touch it.

You mean higher?

Yeah, thanks for catching that.

Believe it or not, assassin update is aimed at making assassins less frustrating, not buffing them over the ceiling.

They are most likely still be mostly useless in competitive play*****, and that's fine with Riot, because assassins have exactly 0 positive impact on the meta.

* except for Zed who will be used to counter Jhin, but that's intentional Riot's move to cater the fanboiz

rather have assassins than ADCs who burst me just as hard but have no CD to worry about and no risk to take

Luckily, you are not the one to choose.

ya, because a counterpick class with one clear goal is somehow inherently worse for the game than the right-clickers that are picked every game and get stronger every season

ADCs definitely are associated with risk. Positioning is everything for an ADC.

No. You deal with Exhaust just like any other CC. You either bait it out or force them to use it on a sub-optimal target.

F*cking item 3046 and item 3715 on the other hand are actually an issue for assassins and should get reworked to be more interactive instead of just point-and-click low/no cooldown personal exhausts for carries.

My personal problem with that reply is at what point does baiting out become pointless if the enemy has access to another exhaust/cc waiting to use. Essentially the threat of being temporary made powerfuless too overbearing. Baiting out implies your doing something or using something to make them use it.

Well exhaust has stopped Assassins from being very good at all in competitive for multiple seasons and with the update nerfing a lot of Assassins and making the kill window for Assassins much longer, exhaust will probably do even more damage to them.

in most games theres generally only 1 exhaust if u can bait it out your good

No, it won't. Exhaust is fine. Exhaust is an important tool to mitigate the effect's of champion's damage potential, especially in games where the damage is over-influential, and makes some match-ups survivable and allow healthy champion to champion interaction.

If you want Exhaust to be nerfed, dozens of champions across multiple classes will have to be nerfed as well, not just assassins.

If anything, exhaust should be made more powerful against just fighters and assassins since mages and support champs are so frail.

If summoner 3 made it impossible for assassins to be effective at higher ranks then Nidalee would never have needed nerfs.

If summoner 3 made it impossible for assassins to be effective at higher ranks then Nidalee would never have needed nerfs.

Nidalee's engage is a skill shot from a billion units away, well outside of exhaust range, and usually gets the ADC low enough to be killed by her Q execute regardless of exhaust.

For an assassin who needs to initiate by going into melee range it destroys them. It's even worse to play against as a skirmisher, whose damage is inherently more delayed and who doesn't have as powerful escape options.

Goodness forbid you try to bait it out, knowing it'll come, or rather trying to pave the scenario where you know it's down.

I feel like we could swap literally any summoner spell over to the statement of what situation it's meant to counter, and have the same discussion.

If there is a problem with the balancing of classes and champions in this game, summoner spells would be the last thing to adjust as part of that rebalancing.

Cough teleport cough cough. Clearly adjusting summoners spells couldn't be a solution.

What do you mean by "bait it out"?

Exhaust slows you, your attack speed, and makes you squishier.

If you're exhausted, your options are:

A. Disengage, putting your mobility spells on cooldown (how did you manage to bait out exhaust without using them btw? lol), taking damage (making you useless for the rest of the team fight, especially if you have no sustain, which most assassins don't), and possibly using your ult (if you're Tryndamere you will pretty much have to use your ult to disengage and live).

B. Die.

Like, what, do you think you can just bait exhaust out by putting your shadow next to the enemy ADC without going in?

That's called relying on the enemy team being stupid.

This also ignores the fact that it is very easy to run double exhaust these days, especially if you're a mid lane assassin.

gl winning without a exhaust if a hyper carry is on the enemy team lol.
