A worry-free guide on who to pick to easily win ranked games

ChickenWrap··1 votes·279 views

Now, we want two key things in the champions we want to play if we want free wins. The first thing we want to look out for is

  1. They need to be beefy

The second thing we need to watch for is

  1. They need to also deal tons of damage with seemingly no effort attached at all.

With this in mind, i have chosen a few champions for which you can build one or two hybrid offensive/defensive items (Titanic Hydra, Black Cleaver, Rylai's, etc.) or straight offense items (Runic Echoes, Death's Dance), and then go pure defensive for the rest of your build and still be able to take on literally anyone who looks at you funny.

The list is as follows: Amumu Chogath Darius Ekko Elise Fiora Fizz Garen Gnar Gragas Hecarim IllaoiIrelia Jax LeeSin MalphiteMasterYi Nasus Poppy RekSai Renekton Ryze Shyvana Swain Trundle Udyr Vi Volibear Warwick MonkeyKing XinZhao Yasuo Zac

There, enjoy your freelo.

Why is it considered balanced for characters to exist in the state of being super beefy but also dealing tons of damage? That's terrible design.

Yet somehow almost all of those champions are at or below a 50% win percentage! What gives coach?!

Winrates don't mean anything. And if they did, I'd tell you that they sit around 50% because when you have games with 2-3 of them per side, one team is bound to lose while the other is bound to win, right?

Statistics bruh.

The champions you have labeled as "OP" and "freelo" would have much higher win rates than the rest of the pool. Unless those champs ONLY played against each other.

That's literally not how winrates work at all. Not in a 5v5 game. I'm sorry.

No, I'm fairly certain it's because it's terrible design.

And I assume you main Illaoi in ranked because she's weak?

I mean, don't get me wrong, i respect your opinion (even though you're literally arguing against someone who's sitting in the top 1% here and you're Bronze 4...), but I don't think you're painting a very good counter-argument.

Astôlfo1 votes

No, I main Illaoi because I like her as a champion and I find her abilities really fun. I like tentacles/water in general a ton, (and thus similarly like squids/octopi/cuttlefish/etc as well - another reason I'm sort of interested in Vel'Koz, just haven't garnered the IP for him yet).

And I barely even play Ranked, she's just my main in general. I mained her before I even played Ranked, so I mean, it's sort of obvious I'd take the champion I have the most experience with into Ranked?

And no, I never said she's weak. She has clear strengths and weaknesses and is hard countered by multiple things, hence why she will never be meta (at least not in her current state), and I'm fine with that. I don't want her to be OP because I'd rather not people trying to freelo with her and just me not being able to play her at all anymore before Riot inevitably kills said champion with nerfs.

Same goes to the rest of them. Every single one you listed has clear strengths and weaknesses. Most of the ones you listed are pretty decent/strong champions. They're not necessarily bad design because of how the tradeoff system between their pros and cons weigh off. Some of the champions you've listed though, are just plain terrible.

Illaoi is already meta. She's been ridiculusly strong since her release but now she's finally meta, as of a few patches ago, actually. Mostly because she's OP.

Every champion has "clear strengths and weaknesses". It's when those strengths are too good for the weaknesses to matter that you end up with this roster of characters. There is no trade-off system at play here because they get the best of both worlds. Super tank, super damage.

Like, again, I understand that your opinion is coming from someone playing at a Bronze level, but just because that might ring true in Bronze doesn't mean that it's true in general.

"Illaoi is already meta. She's been ridiculusly strong since her release but now she's finally meta, as of a few patches ago, actually. Mostly because she's OP." lolno.

"Like, again, I understand that your opinion is coming from someone playing at a Bronze level, but just because that might ring true in Bronze doesn't mean that it's true in general." Which is why most high ELO (Plat 1+ -> Diamond/Master/Challenger) don't have the slightest problem with the vast majority (if not all) of the champions you've listed?

lol yes. I'm sorry that Illaoi is not meta in Bronze ELO, but that does not mean she's not meta.

Good counter-argument. 10/10. Also, you're wrong and stupid for thinking so. Why do you argue balance on this board when you can't even reach Silver? You are one of the worst 10% players in the game. That sounds harsh, I know, but really, dude? Come on.

"There is no trade-off system at play here because they get the best of both worlds. Super tank, super damage." If that was actually true, that'd be bad for balance. Except it isn't.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure that's wrong too. Like I know you might not know how to play them but that doesn't mean this point is wrong?

I play in that ELO, and they do. All the damned time. I don't understand what you're trying to say because you're making assumptions about an ELO that you have never been in.

Astôlfo1 votes

sigh and so you resort to ranks once again as if that's an actual argument. anyways.

Yes she's totally obviously meta which is why she's so commonly picked and doing so incredibly amazing WR wise... oh wait.

"Also, you're wrong and stupid for thinking so" Yes because this counter-argument is soooo much better. Props to you on that one, 10/10.

"Sorry, I'm pretty sure that's wrong too. Like I know you might not know how to play them but that doesn't mean this point is wrong?" 'hurdur im right and ur wrong' What an incredibly amazing counter-argument. Huh, I'm starting to see a patte- oh right it's called hypocrisy.

"I play in that ELO, and they do. All the damned time. I don't understand what you're trying to say because you're making assumptions about an ELO that you have never been in." Uh yeah which is like, you know, she's doing soooo INCREDIBLY amazing with her... 49.8/49.6% winrate. http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/illaoi/platinum http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/illaoi/diamond

Hmm.... so like, can you tell me one thing? What's the point of spending that much money over 3 seasons? Is it like, a personal ego boost thing?

Because you have nothing to show to me that you know about League and you're comparing your experiences in Bronze to mine in Diamond.

She's commonly picked, w/r doesn't matter when talking about balance.

So we'll agree that I'm right on that point then.

Is that not what you've been doing this entire time? Burden of proof lies on you here to tell me what their amazing trade-offs are since you said that they have them.

Seems like a solid rate to me for a broken champion.

Hmm.... so like, can you tell me one thing? What's the point of spending that much money over 3 seasons? Is it like, a personal ego boost thing?

ROFL DID YOU JUST TELL ME I WAS BOOSTED?

Astôlfo1 votes

And yet a Diamond knows even less apparently than a Bronze.

Yes, how incredibly common she is, at a 4% playrate. LMAO did you just say winrates don't matter when it comes to balance? Like sure, they're not everything, but if a champ was actually a problem, they'd have a higher winrate. The very fact they don't is telling in itself.

??? Not sure if you know how to read basic English.

Uh and you're the one claiming that they're so incredibly broken and amazing in the first place? With nothing more than your tears to back up your claims? C'mon, I'd expect at least a little more effort if an actual Diamond player would complain about a champion.

hurdur 49.6% wr is new freelo guys time to become chalenjour with a champ that real diamond players have a negative winrate on average with hurdurrrrr

Hmm, I couldn't quite possibly tell. I heard using basic English reading comprehension helps though.

Malphite gets murdered by carry top laners, Yi is no longer meta and is only really viable for those hardcore players, Nasus's split push no longer works as team meta now requires top laners to be remotely involved in 5v5 gameplay which is not where nasus belongs, poppy is still ok but no where near the top of the list like she used to be, udyr is the same as yi, WW is a bad pick in the same way as nasus as team meta now requires junglers with higher early game pressure which WW doesn't provide, Xin is considered a troll pick in high elo as he gets kited to oblivion, and finally fizz gets countered hard by meta mid laners.

Below mid/high plat elo you can play what ever you want as long as you retain the proper knowledge behind the basics but the closer you get to diamond the more the problems I mentioned above comes into play.

Malphite doesn't get murdered by anyone. Not if you play him correctly. Which champions can you think of that murder Malphite after he slows their attack speed to a crawl and buys tons of armour?

Yi is still viable, what makes you think otherwise?

Nasus doesn't have to split push to one-shot fools. Plus I can tell you for certain that split pushing is still a very potent way to win games, as I do it constantly with success. In a 5v5 teamfight, Nasus is wrecking shop like he usually does.

Just because she's not top-tier at it doesn't mean she's not still great at it.

Udyr is the same as Yi.

WW is a fine jungle and can hit 6 very quickly. Players know how to play around not having a gank-heavy jungler.

I've seen a few Xins at my ELO and they wreck shop, so that's a moot point. How do you kite a Xin when he has a dash that has a slow attached to it, exactly?

Tank Fizz doesn't usually go mid-lane...?

I'm Diamond, I figured all the medals would give it away or you'd at least check my lolking or something before telling me about the ELO that I've already played through. The highest I've been is Diamond 3. Not the best, but certainly not bad, especially for someone who loves playing a champion that's a generally weak pick right now.

How to kite xin, wait for his E, Dash yourself before he can hit you 3 times. Done!

You're slowed and it's not like he doesn't have bonus movespeed.

that's why I said dash, he doesn't have a double dash or something like that, once his E is on CD, unless he can proc his Q passive, the CD is so high that he basically becomes an immobile and rangeless sitting duck. Also as far as I know he doesn't get any bonus movement speed after the initial dash, the coudl get items like item 3742 item 3117 but after that first aa he lost them and I believe Stormraider surge don't proc unless your HP goes significally down

I think zed is good too because you can take out high priority targets easily while being intargetable, plus have an easy and reliable escape.

Yeah, but he doesn't deal tons of damage if he goes mostly tank though.

True, but he only needs one or two damage items to kill squishes in one burst

Not with Zed, no. If Zed stops building damage and armor pen then he falls far behind.

After dusk blade and ghost blade, he can do hybrid like cleaver. He also only needs to be able to do 2000 to 2500 damage
