If you want a utility AP support, there are a multitude of better options than Lux. Brand, Vel'koz, Karma, Zyra, Lulu, Zilean.............all of these offer more than Lux support. Lux is far too item depended to survive on a support's gold budget. If you value your team comp at all, never pick Lux support. It's so bad it's not even off-meta. It's AP Darius levels of trolling.

I think lux is a great support.
If you can plus support trundle in LCS, support lux is fine.

She is essentially a higher damaging morgana that needs to manage her mana. On my smurf I played support lux because lux was cheap/free and all the other supports were crazy expensive in terms of their IP cost.
She has two issues: She can't get people off her if they jump her and the mana cost of spells is very high. But a nice advantage she has is the passive she brings and the range of her auto attacks.
I actually think she is currently a better support than a midlaner. Too many midlaners outclass her.

This is exactly what I think too! I am a Lux Support Main (Currently Plat 3, still climbing) and I totally agree. The reason why I play Lux Support in Ranked is because she has so much un-tapped potential just wating to be exploited. I play her... differently, a mixture of ap and utility, but NEVER full ap unless the enemy team is stupid (which never happens in Plat). literally free waveclear and faceroll follow up combo once you hit a binding. Her early poking with autos is also really annoying, but that stops working once midgame and teamfighting begins, when she becomes a free kill because champions can just run her down
