Gangplank Tips?
I just bought le pirate man and I didn't do too great. Provided, I picked into a bad lane, but I can't use the barrels right or teamfight for crap.
Suggestions?

I wrote a pretty long post when someone else asked me the same question a while ago, I'll just copy paste it here ^^
I found this video very helpful. I recommend you try to learn some combos in a custom game :) (Don't bother learning the EQE combo, shortly after his release, Riot nerfed his powder keg placement, and that combo became very unreliable)
Lategame, you want to prepare some barrels, let's say the enemy team is gonna push midlane, or contest baron or something, right? What you want to do is setup a bunch of barrels, place them in bushes, over walls, in the chicken camp etc. When the fight starts, you want to use those barrels as the first barrel in your combo.
In the early game, you want to place a barrel, hug that barrel and farm/harrass with Q. Attack your barrel when the enemy toplaner enters your barrel range/ play a second barrel when he gets too close. You want to get your Sheen and Trinity force ASAP. You also want max CDR ASAP. The most important powerspike to remember is level 13, this is when you get rank 5 in your E. From that point, the time it takes your barrel to get to 1 HP the lowest.
For itemisation, you obviously rush
, get
or
to get to 45% cdr (take 10% in yoru runes) From there you want to look at some Crit Chance

and finish your build off with More crit chance, armor pen or some defense

As far as ult upgrades go, you want these 2 first
![]()
depending on situation/preference and get
last.
So: -Early game, Hug barrels, spam Q, rush Sheen, use ult to get global kills/assists. When you hit powerspikes like level 13, ult upgrade etc, you can group with your team. Or splitpush, if you want to.
Everyone can learn a few combos with a bit of practice. A good Gangplank knows when to use what combo, how to position himself in teamfights and from where to combo
You can also watch this livestream
I learned a lot from this guy ^^
EDIT: I wouldn't build Youmuus anymore next patch though.
Thanks, the video was really helpful.
Everyone's ranged, which makes the combo a pain in the ass.
Crit GP is pretty much... uhm... the only GP.
If you get ahead, youre going to roflstomp. If you go even, youre going to roflstomp. If you get behind, youre going to roflstomp in the endgame.
Its unfortunate that pre-rework GP was healthier and more balanced by far than this GP...
crit gp is actually weaker than pen gp atm as far as experienced playing him. and Pen items have more efficiency and are a bit cheaper.my go to build atm is
works better than the crit builds for me. drakthar is personal preference you can go IE ofc or if you are not ahead and want defence trade off static/drak for a maw or ga(maybe deadmans too)

Yeah... No. Old Gangplank was kept complete garbage because of how horrendously toxic he was. Current Gangplank has weaknesses and counterplay (even if you'd rather complain about him rather than do the bloody effort to auto attack a keg) and is thus allowed to be viable or strong.

If by "weaknesses and counterplay" you mean a champion with almost all of offensive power loaded into one ability that is very hard to walk out of, i guess thats true. Pre-rework GP wasnt toxic to play against is the thing... the only real change was the replaced E and the new ult mechanics. This iteration of GP is an incredible hypercarry - capable of litterally oneshotting squishies in the late game.
Last game i played with a GP in it they two shot a 200armor 5000HP hecarim. With two barrels.

His offensive power is loaded into 3 abilities, 2 of which he combos together, the other one being his ultimate.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA Want me to look for some old footage of Gangplank litterally pressing Q and somoene dies? Old Gangplank was Disgustingly toxic, and lacked any form of interaction.

if by lategame you mean being about 3 levels ahead, while also having a rediculous amount of items, alright.
Gangplank doesn't consistantly oneshot people anymore since the nerfs, and if he does it's in a situation where he's stupidly ahead, and champions like
would do the damn same (with a smaller lead actually)

I played a game as Gangplank where at one point this was my item build
with 3 infernal dragons, baron and elder dragon I reached 1800 damage on powder keg. (Infernal Dragon increases total AD, which has a rediculous Synergy with Gangplank, because Powder keg scales with total AD, and Trinity Force scales with base AD)
so I HIGHLY doubt that. Unless the Gangplank you played against was in the same situation I was, you sir are a liar.

"two shot" Barrel -> Q -> Ult -> Barrel
Two shot. Generally speaking, "one shot" refers to a whole rotation, not a literal oneshot. Two shot has a similar meaning.
Still doesn't seem very likely to me, unless the hecarim was a complete dumbass, kept standing in the Cannon Barrage while Gangplank was Auto attacking him in between barrels lol Or was straight up too stupid to use his W
The deciding factor between good GPs and bad GPs is barrel placement. That just comes from practice, but ideally, the enemy will never see it coming. I actually prefer a beefier GP with Sterak's/Maw/SV/IBG/Titanic, but the classic Critplank is timeless and there are a ton of good items for him.
And learn to last hit. GP is like Nasus or Veigar, but his power comes from getting bonus gold rather than stacks. GP should never not be farmed, unless you're support, which probably doesn't work as well as it used to.
Yep, I know the whole Q-Bandit interaction is great for gold, and how barrels proc Q's bonus gold and SS gain.
I lost lane hard and still made 3 items.
That tankier build sounds good too, seeing as GP has pretty good bases from the armor pen on barrels, along with the true damage burn.
Get bandit mastery for the gold generation. Every time you q them you get 10 g. It is not worth it to use it for last hitting early levels. One of the great things about GP your opponent can't go even with you. If you have the same cs your ahead. It may seem like a dick move but only use your ult when it will net a kill. Its cooldown is too high to waste it.
If you have trouble with people destroying your barrel before you can shoot it, i tend to auto the barrel instead (not as much dmg but still enough to change fights specially on squishies)
EDIT: Also GP best champ :D
N3ac3y is a master level GP player. He does coaching sessions on pretty much every champ but people send him a lot of GP games to review. I recommend checking him out.
