Returning player, reconsidering coming back

Basically it boils down to my progression being bound to the awful new honor system. I didn't like it when IP was changed to loot boxes, and now they've double-downed on their social engineering nonsense in a way that is extremely off-putting.

  1. I can't track my honor progress. Why not?

  2. It discourages playing with friends because your votes for each other don't count, so your progress is stifled if you're not a solo player.

  3. I'm not a toxic player, but I don't go out of my way to kiss ass either. This system negatively impacts me compared to the previous one.

  4. I mainly just want to progress my blue essence so I can continue unlocking champions, but this system is much slower and doesn't really reward games played. It almost makes me just want to log in once a day for the first win bonus and log out, but if I'm going to do that, why even bother? Even Heroes of the Storm has a better progression system than this (and theirs is pretty bad).

  5. I wouldn't really object to this system if I didn't have to play my way into unlocking champions. Just have them all unlocked (like DOTA2), do away with blue essence, and use the honor system for skins and such. That would be acceptable. This is just one way to balance it better. Detaching honor from IP (or blue essence) is probably the better route overall; it was a bad notion in the first place.

I pick Brand so I don't have to be bothered when people try to summoner 14 me.

  1. I don't know, best I've heard is that people will feel more rewarded or something. Not a good reason in my opinion, but not really a big deal for me.

  2. I only played with my friends yesterday and got a Key, I'm uncertain how the system actually works, but I have made progress while playing with them. However, ARAM is by far the best and fastest way to progress.

  3. You don't have to, I rarely talk to my allies outside of pings and objective based chatter. Most people will honor you for doing well or helping them fight.

  4. IP vs BE if you were attempting to unlock all champions in the game you will do it 7.4% faster (possibly faster based on luck) than the IP system. Does it feel more grindy yes, but it is better over all from a speed perspective. My suggestion is unless you really want X champion get a bunch and sell duplicate/owned shards only and unlock champions that way. I have a Smurf and I have gotten a lot of champions using this method, I also sell champions I don't want sometimes, but not often... cough teemo*

  5. True unlocking them all would be nice, but Riot has to get that paycheck. Of all things Riot does wrong I would have to say the way they price their champions/skins is very fair exempting Pajama and a few other outliers.

I feel ya the grind is hard, but one day you'll be on my end where you are asking what do I do with all this BE? I almost have all the Chromas lol.

  1. Its not a consistent gain. It varies how much you gain over factors they don't mention much. One that is known is that all players gain some honor progression if everybody on the team honors a teammate. Regardless of if your honored or not.

  2. All players honoring results in gains for progression, having a buddy increases the odds of 5 man honor. Playing well with a teammate increases the odds one of you gets honored by randoms who appreciate a win. I frequently play with duo and 3-4 man groups and had no issues getting level 5 honor.

  3. How so? No honorable opponent?

  4. Fair enough, Be for grinding in a day is slower. More about a few games daily then sitting down and going ham for 8 hours. Its a benefit slightly for folks who only play here and there but that's the only group that gains from it.

  5. Game needs income still, cant give away everything. Objectively speaking BE is better for newer players then IP was, Especially when we factor in rune pages and runes being a massive IP sink. That being said it slows down after a point and there's a massive amount of content.

Honestly. I keep trying to get a rioter to take a look at the shard rental system. I think if that got expanded on the Shard drops wouldent feel so bad for players. If your rental gave you BE when it expired, or if rentals did not remove the shard so you could upgrade to Permanente for BE at its discount. Pretty simple QOL.

Far as honor progression goes, You get it just for playing. No joke.

"Do I need to do anything special to progress?" You level up just by playing to win in your games. Show up, don’t intentionally work against team, and you’ll progress in the coming weeks and months. If your teammates honor you a lot, you’ll get a slight bonus in progression and rewards like loading screen flairs.

"If I get no Honors, do I still level up?" You will. All you have to do is show up and try to win in all your games.

"Does voting for my teammates contribute to my Honor level?" Yes, but you’ll need a little help. A whole team gets a slight bonus to their honor level if every teammate votes. Just like the game, you win or lose as a team.
