Ezreal QoL Buff

I do fine on every ADC except one, Ezreal. I've tried every build, rune and mastery combination you can imagine but never found him competitive with traditional ADCs like Vayne, Sivir, Jinx, Graves etc. regardless of what I went for. The classic TF build seemed the most natural but your Qs start to tickle late game. The Muramana builds have better poke but suffer from the most atrocious early game of any ADC (without the scaling to match). Muramana's power is also not very consistent and drains mana extremely quickly.

Even without greedy builds, his lane phase is subpar because all someone has to do is stay out of his AA range and go behind minions. Most ADCs love minions but they are the bane of Ezreal. In addition to reducing his R damage, they can block Q and E. I realize he can use W too but it's magic damage without AD scaling and quite mana intensive for a narrow skillshot that won't even help push the wave.

Any competent ADC can just shove the wave and watch you pathetically struggle against their superior waveclear while being unable to damage them. The only tool you have left is your measly 550 range 50 base AD AA and pretty much every ADC will out-trade you in those situations. The reason is simple. Most ADCs have higher base AD, higher base HP, better AA steroids and tend to have skillshots that hit through minions.

Moreover, don't forget the poor saps that have to support Ezreal. Leona, Alistar, etc. go in and then Ezreal can only AA because his skills are useless in a minion wave. No matter how good your support is, Ezreal can't capitalize on the plays as well as standard ADCs. In fact, this makes the support basically unable to out-trade and create an advantage even when he hits his skillshots perfectly (leading to a passive and slowly losing lane). Let's say a miracle happens and a great Alistar combo saves the day. Ezreal gets a kill and... he comes back with Tear + Boots to push that advantage.

I find Ezreal fun to play but he seems outclassed in virtually every category. There are far better ADCs for DPS, turret-pushing, utility, early spikes (Corki), waveclear, lane-bullying (more like the opposite), and even his poke isn't categorically better. A Corki, Ashe or Sivir will poke just as hard and with a larger AoE. The escape is nice but not really any safer than Corki or Tristana's W since it's shorter ranged. I'll grant that it allows him better kiting and chasing.

Anyway, I think Ezreal's early game needs a bit of a buff and I'd recommend that his base AD be tuned more in line with popular picks. Let's look at some random base AD numbers:

Graves is 54 Vayne and Jinx's are 53 Sivir, Lucian & Tristana are 52 Ashe is 51 Caitlyn is 50 Kog & Twitch are 49

For the mediocre scaling he has, Ezreal has a fairly low base AD. Others in that category either have on-hit effects/steroids like Kog & Twitch or higher range.** I don't know how much it would help but giving Ezreal 52 base AD would be in line with his mid-game centric power spike and late game fall-off.**

First off,

QoL =/= Buff

A buff is a mechanical increase in a Champion's power or usability. A "Quality of Life" change is generally something for information or clarity purposes that does not change the "power" or mechanical effect of the Champion. For example, a Buff is increasing Ez's base AD. A QoL change would be updating Essence Flux's particle effect to more accurately represent its hitbox - because it seems like I hit with that way more often than I should based on the particle.

Second,

Ezreal's Base AD is not what is holding him back. In fact, back when AD Ez Mid was the meta (as far back as pre-Seasons) his early game is actually quite strong. I generally have few problems getting FB. However, what is holding back Ezreal is his late game - Ezreal does not scale like a typical ADC because he does not rely on Critical Hits. I have talked about this at length here, but the short version is that Ezreal does not benefit as well with crits. He relies on his ranged safety and poke, which means the bulk of his damage is by throwing Qs out and sniping with his ult; crits do nothing to increase these abilities. He is not meant to duel directly, but rather harass and poke. So when you get to late-game teamfights where the fighters and tanks start initiating and diving in on his team, he doesn't have the kind of DPS output that a strong ADC has.

His other main problem, design wise, is that his kit is no longer cohesive. He has a weird mix of AD-based passive, but AP-heavy ratios, and a W that is entirely useless if you're playing AD.

Improving the base AD is a very minor change aimed primarily at last-hitting and giving more rune options (perhaps Armor Penetration marks). Two more AD would not really change the power of the champion. I don't see it as anything more than a smoothening of his gameplay so I think calling it a QoL improvement is correct. It may not be how Riot has traditionally used it but they don't own the definition for it and it fits the context.

I don't see how his early game is strong. I find even Vayne's a lot stronger. She can really punish someone for mispositioning or getting CCd. I explained why I don't think Ezreal can capitalize on this well vs competent players.

Rune Glaive ezreal, ezreal adc is like varus adc - he is a caster over adc

Runeglavie Ezreal is dead and he's back at 40% winrate mid. It's true that he's more of a caster than ADC but others in that category, such as Graves, can still output a lot more damage.

protip: don't spend your gold advantage on a tear and boots, get pickaxe. Get a few mana pots if you have to, nothing wrong with that.

Honestly Manamune gives him a pretty solid laning phase assuming Ezreal doesn't fall behind and the enemy adc already has IE done.

That's a different price point though. What would you get with just ~1k gold?

I feel rather than basing something as benign as flat base ad which is hardly a factor in the early game, is either adding AD ratios on a few of his abilities (maybe ulti and W) OR simply improving the Q's AD ratio slightly. it is already 1.1 flat ad ratio which is decent, but could use a bit more love. I also feel his passive could be stack faster. maybe not make it require 5 stacks and instead only take 3 to get the same amount. He definitely needs SOMETHING. the Q being his main DPS and his identiy makes me feel the best route for Ezreal is going to be to buff the Q. but that is a hard line to toe. as we saw with AP ezreal earlier when runeglaive was a thing. an overpowered Q is toxic for the game and incredibly strong due to its range. so finding the right numbers would be helpful. Another thing that I think would really help ezreal is to improve his base movement speed. maybe make him a quick adc with a pretty fast base ad. like 345, 350 like a melee champ or something to give him this super mobile identity possibly to make up for his lack of pure AD power. he is already a kiting a god, so I'm not sure if thats necessarily a good idea. all I know is I agree he needs something, but he has a kit that is one or two overtweaks to being pure toxicity.

Most ADCs prefer to spend 1.5k gold on a BF sword. With just 1k gold, you'd still want to get pickaxe on Ezreal and save the rest for tear to rush manamune.

That makes sense as far as laning but it means another 5+ minutes of no tear stacking and delaying your Muramana power-spike. Moreover, this can mess up your timing if you are trying to finish TF by the time you get Muramana. In pro games, I still see them get Tear.

I'd love more opinions on this. Am I underrating Ezreal? To me, it feels that even his mobility isn't really any better than Kalista's or Lucian's (while providing a lot less damage). What is supposed to be the reason to pick him over other ADCs?

No Ezreal love QQ. At least he's back to being a shitty ADC so no one bans him anymore and I get to play him. :D

I think another improvement would be to give AS stacks on cast but that might be too strong.

He is just so terrible compared to other ADCs no matter how hard I try.
