My League of Legends Survey Feedback

I'm a league player who started playing in Season 4 who has basically stopped playing the game over the past couple years because of the constant and often unnecessary changes made to the game over the past few years. I recieved a RIOT survey to ask me my thoughts on the game and figured I'd post my response to see if others who've played this game for more than two years agree with how I feel about Riots direction with the game. For those LOL vets, what are you thoughts on how Riot has changed the game over the past years? Are you more interested or less interested in the game than in previous seasons?

"In a few sentences, please describe how you feel about League of Legends"

"I feel the game used to be a good game when it was paced and measured, but there have been a tremendous amount of unnecessary changes since Season 5 that have made the game unenjoyable for me to play because everything is so snowbally. The constant changes make it so if you don't play the game non stop you can't determine patch by patch how much damage a character will do. It seems Riot is more interested in "oh this would be cool to add!" than thinking through changes and balancing the game. The community wants the game to evolve over time, but you can't sacrifice the integrity of the game for pushing through constant updates. If you want to release League of Legends 2 then do that, don't change LOL into a different game than what is was meant to be which is a strategy game, not an arena brawler. This was my favorite video game ever and its slowly being turned into a HOTS ripoff instead of being League of Legends."

Agreed the games pace is way to fast, its to casul now. He's really right it is starting to feel like Hero's of the Storm. A okay game when you don't have much time. League doesn't have much strat left to it. Its all macro and deathballs. Season 4, great year. All the variaty of item builds on champs. Its like League took 80% of the options for players out of the game and forced them into the deathball mode.

Honestly, I couldn't have said it better myself. Well said, OP!

There have been some positive changes in League since I started in Season 1 and I think it's great for a game to evolve to a certain point. With that having been said, I think it's painfully obvious that this isn't even close to the same game it used to be----laning is over in 7-8 minutes (if that sometimes), games are ostensibly decided at 10-15 minutes and there's just way too much damage.

The game used to be a lot more forgiving and there were many more comebacks or chances to regain you're footing if you fell behind a little bit. Falling behind in Season 7/Season 8 League basically means that you lose with a minuscule opportunity for a comeback.

I know Riot won't hear you on this OP, but I do... I wish they would just get back to basics with this game and make a few changes that would benefit everyone in the long run.

  • Boost turret damage significantly while increasing their early/mid game survivability somewhat.
  • Cut damage across the board by 20%
  • Stop making new champions and focus on fixing up what you have now instead of just leaving them on the scrap heap - Ryze, LeBlanc, Kalista, Azir, Nunu. It's just funny to see new champs released and watching several of the oldest champions in the game languishing at either the lowest win rate or the lowest playrate---or both.

I had a similar response in my survey

i think if you tell them it's too snowbally and it needs more strategy and less COD they will simply remove you from the survey list since they know better then you what you want anyway

I used to get surveys but after that response they quit sending me surveys

It's one way to get the data you want

The great irony of the big names is that they've always tried to remain on top by adopting aspects of new titles.

With WoW, just about every system that came out through wotlk and beyond was mimicked from another title, at title which normally couldn't stand on it's own merits and collapsed. Yet what Blizzard and now Riot do, is that they take what they see as the "good" aspects of those titles and introduce them into their game.

So what you end up with after a few years, is a title which is more a conglomeration of relatively unsuccessful designs from other games. Nor would i necessarily trust anyone to identify if a system was a net positive or negative, because the same system which lets you experience all of the content also makes it feel lackluster or short. Often they assume that they can get the positive aspects of the systems without feeling the negative side effects, but rarely is this ever true, and what ends up happening is the same things that killed all these other games inevitably undermine the integrity of the successful title.
