How I Would Change Duskblade

Sir Rouge··14 votes·8,920 views

Right now, I think duskblade is just a bad design.

  • Adding damage on a lethality item makes sense, but right now it's all funneled on an auto attack, which just adds burst to any champion who takes it without them necessarily being an assassin.
  • It's also basically adding point and click damage without even needing to press an active item, that can also be used many times in a fight if you can get out of vision for a second.

I would change it like this: UNIQUE Passive - Nightstalker: After being unseen for at least 1 second, your next basic attack against an enemy champion deals 30 - 200 bonus physical damage and slows them by 99% for 0.25 seconds. Ranged basic attacks do not apply the slow. (Lasts for 5 seconds after being seen by an enemy champion). ----> UNIQUE Passive - Nightstalker: After being unseen for at least 1 second, gain (X lethality and/or X attack damage). Your next basic attack against an enemy champion also slows them by 99% for 0.25 seconds. Ranged basic attacks do not apply the slow. (Lasts for 5 seconds after being seen by an enemy champion).

  • This would shift some damage into the champions abilities (for example, Zed's Q) instead of the auto attack, while keeping the slow.
  • This could also help against bruisers.
  • The lethality/AD number(s) and the duration could be changed if this ends up too weak or too strong.
  • A visual indicator could be added.

Does anyone remember what assassins used to build before Duskblade was added to the game?

Its funny cuz its true. Times so ancient that assassins purchased wooden club as their first item.

Yes, assassins still relied on items actives and auto attack resets for burst damage.

item 3077 / item 3074 for attack resetting and manaless waveclear for the likes of Talon Shaco Khazix. Old item 3142 and old item 3031 granted a total of 35% crit rate and allowing 250% critical strike damage. Attack resets allow you to strike critically for 250% at least once. If you were lucky, twice, if you were the luckiest person ever, 3 times.

...Honestly, if it were up to me, I'd remove Duskblade altogether. Give the slow to item 3142 and just buff item 3364 CD. It can get all the people to stop bitching, and it also trims down the number of items that assassins need to build. This way, if we get ahead, we might actually be allowed to build something sustainy to do more than blow up one person.

Not a bad idea, but it may be difficult to balance on quite a few champions. Not that current Duskblade is easy to balance either, but the flat damage tacked on might be a bit clearer for Riot's balance team to understand than Lethality's amplication applied over a champion's whole kit.

That's true, but I feel like it would be worth the try.

I would honestly prefer it if the AD Stealth item actually GAVE stealth instead of rewarding champs who already have it.

It would fit thematically with the roaming assassin archetype and enhance their ability to get in and do their job, rather than just giving them free burst.

Something like:

UNIQUE Passive - Nightstalker: While out of combat, when unseen for at least 4 seconds, become Camouflaged. If you would be detected by an enemy or a ward, trigger Blackout.

UNIQUE Passive - Blackout: Become Invisible for 1 second and gain an aura that disables all nearby wards for 6 seconds. (120 second cooldown)

That way they could buff its numbers closer to what it was on release, and finally get rid of that gross awful free AA burst. As well as the degenerate bush-sitting playstyle.

item 3078 is for fighters and not for assassins

Although they could create a fourth item 3057 item aimed at crit users, which could be used by assassins when building item 3031

Honestly, the damage on Duskblade would be fine if it just didn't come with the built-in ward remover on top of it.

Riot needs to either remove the damage or remove the anti-ward. Having a huge amount of utility on a first-rush dmg item is stupid. Either make a legit anti-ward utility item with "okay" damage or make a perfectly normal damage item that doesn't have the additional perk of removing enemy vision from the game past 10 minutes.

What about stop a ward from giving vision for a certain amount of time, but you can't destroy the ward?

I Support Solar1 votes

I don't see the point of having any ward effect at all.

Does it remove the dmg ability if a ward sees you? Even if it does, that already tells the player information that there is a ward in the area. At that point, you have already been "rewarded" a bit for buying the item. You don't have to be able to turn the ward off or know where it is on top of that.

I thought the ward effect(Blackout) was to help AD assassins to be able to move around without being seen since it disable the ward first and u r never seen by the ward as long u walk away from it before blackout is over. It helps with the nightstalker effect(30-200 dmg based on level and 99% slow for 0.25 seconds on a basic attack after u r unseen for a second) for ganking the side lanes. You disable the ward in the bush. You gank.

If you still get seen by the ward, idk.

For the area where the warding trinket reveal is pretty big.

It's like if you make the oracle lens just shows u where the ward is and u cant destroy it, you are better off getting the warding trinket if you cant deny vision. What I'm saying is what can you do with knowing there is a ward there that is likely going to die in less then 60 seconds and you just found it with blackout. Then blackout goes on cooldown for 90 seconds and someone put another ward. It kinda waste time to even try to do a gank when the enemy gets to see you coming and you have get back to lane within a certain amount of time. It's harder for assassins to do things when they are seen unless they have movement speed to make up for it.

So if the assassin just used duskblade(without the ward effect) and sweeper len, and then they killed you the same way, you would want duskblade to be nerfed.

Blackout effect on duskblade has been out since 6.22(unless the source is wrong). Has it been a problem for a while?

just add a internal cd of 5 seconds and remove cdr would be nice.

This is actually a really interesting idea. I do not know if it would fix the item but it's safe to say it's the best suggestion about changing the item I have seen on Boards

Hell I rush duskblade every game and I'd much rather have the extra AD for a brief period. You think MonkeyKing hitting you with Duskblade passive hurts, wait til his entire E AA Q R is amplified by more AD. That'd fuck some shit up.

Ahem this coming from an assassin player...........REMOVE THE FUCKING ITEM! Also revert lethality back to armor pen. There, AD assassins are healthy again, thank me later.
