At least add a 3rd preference in the DQ
There are 5 lanes. Why are we limited to just 2?
There are 5 lanes. Why are we limited to just 2?
It wouldn't shorten queue times. I'm guessing what you really want is to just fill but not support.
They could have us pick five in order of priority.
Top(1), Jungle(2), Support(3), Mid(4), Adc(5)
Granted there would undoubtedly be times where one or two players match on first roles but not the second third of fourth. So a team might look like: 2,3,5,1,4 1,2,4,5,3 5,4,3,2,1 3,1,2,4,5 4,5,1,2,3
Just start shaving them off in the manner of A,B,C,D,E... So it would be a 1/5 chance of always getting something. However the priorities would or can place emphasis on certain roles at time penalties.
And it's the exact same problem as now, put Support before anything else and get Support most of the time.
They need to fix the back end to prevent people from getting Support 100% of the time they gave it as a secondary or Fill, then people won't avoid it.
It is literally addressed. If I take a knife and take those numbers in a unbiased format, as like above just never really ending considering the amount of players and cut them down each row(A,B,C,D,E)
They are now: 2, 1, 5, 3, 4 3, 2, 4, 1, 5 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 1, 5, 2, 4, 2 4, 3, 1, 5, 3
The Amount of ways you can cut five roles between five people is greater than the amount of way I can divide two. Partly why Solo queue worked so well(No roles). However if roles is something the player base wants then it is something that should be kept to an extent. effecting Queue times this much is just horrible. However this was just solved with a unbiased binomial distribution. Probrobility I would say is within an acceptable if not a excellent range.
Look at your example, but only the first two columns. That's what New Champ Select was at the start, more or less. The distribution wasn't even, but everyone expected Support to be less popular. The guy with Support secondary found out he was getting Support all the time, so he stopped putting it.
What will happen when you put Support as a 3rd option? Same thing as Support secondary, you get it all the time, so you stop putting it.
What will happen when you put Support 4th option? Same thing again.
With 5 options, you've hit the same problem as every version before it. Put Support before your 5th option and always get it. The only difference is that it's Russian Roulette on if you're Support or not, which is the same thing Riot implemented for high elo with Autofill.
Now, take a step back and look at Blind Pick. Of the last 16 Blind Pick games I've played as Fill, I've gotten Support once. Why? Because when not forced to take it every single time by a computer trying to make the fastest match possible, people do have Support as a 2nd/3rd/4th pick.
You've got to get rid of constantly getting Support for players to put Support down as anything but last. No amount of added options will help until that's fixed.
How exactly am I giving a player what he wants 100% of the time or not giving him it 100% of the time? Its literally a 1/5 chance you are going to play___ role again. Not once did I say: "You are going to get this role and only this role..."
You have missed the point of the post.
I have given the appearance of control. It is literally the same as solo queue... its Russian roulette for ALL the roles. The difference is some players don't WANT certain roles. The difference is it will force you to play regardless but you have a 1/5 chance of not getting something you prefer least, or if you don't like three roles well its a 3/5 chance you will get the roles you don't like and a 2/5 you won't.
THIS IS LITERALLY A GAME OF SUDOKU. Five repetitive numbers can never be in the same order whether horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
This is an appearance of control. This eliminates the problem of bias. Because you are going to play other roles... and each time you get that the probability of you getting it a second time increases drastically.
If there's literally a 1/5 chance of playing a certain role, with no sense of priority, why have the order at all? Roll the dice, let them fall where they will.
The appearance of control, with no actual control, simply adds frustration when the illusion is broken. There are enough players that keep tabs on their matches it would be noticed fairly soon.
As a comparison point, last season I got mid 63% of the time. The New Champion Select says that statistically I should get Mid 55% of the time now. If you're literally giving me a 1/5 chance of getting Mid, then that's 20%. Why would I want your system at all?
They are, but the moment. You, the player, want to enforce a role your queue will increase. Why because you feel others will not preform well in that area thus the reason you don't want support, or the role you hate. This also goes the other way.
You want the role... Well the price is your time. However the system still gives me a way to judge and pair players, remain unbiased, making teams from them.
Whether it was the new or old champion select you were reliant on how other players would respond to your pick or choice. So out of the five people you queued with is it impossible that they can support or are support mains they just don't want to player that role all the time? Quite possibly. Using this only reduces the time required to make matches...
Actually, it would reduce queue times slightly.
Yes, most of the time games are waiting for support, but not always. Suppose you mostly play Mid and Top, but don't mind playing Jungle occasionally.
If there is a game waiting for a jungler and no one to fill it, then you will never get put into that game, because you only queued for Mid/Top and not Mid/Top/Jungle. Instead, you have to wait for a game missing a mid/top, and that other game needs to wait for another person willing to jungle to come along.
The caveat is that the matchmaker now tries to heavily prioritise your primary choice, which I think means that it already doesn't immediately take an offer of your second position unless it's already failed to find your first position for a certain amount of time. I don't know if that's exactly how it works (it's how Riot hinted they were fixing the "secondary all the time" problem). If the assumption is true, then adding a third choice would only improve queue times after you've been in the queue long enough for it to no longer be looking only for your primary.
It wouldnt. Unless we are talking about some edge case scenario where there are abundant supports at that mmr queued. The chart rito released is pretty clear. Game is always waiting on a support except in those rare edge cases.
"Blizzard"?
Either way, just because support is the least popular doesn't mean that there are always enough people in the queue to fill all the other positions for games without a support. I don't think the edge case is as rare as you think it is.
Thanks for the catch. Ment Rito. According the charts, with such a disparity it does actually appear that way to me. Might be wrong, but won't be convinced unless Riot releases actual numbers instead of just an eye candy chart.
Adding a feature takes time and effort They have a limited amount of time and effort to spend on features What you want can be accomplished in the current system simply by changing what you queue up for every couple games What they are working on are more important features to solve issues that can't yet be solved no matter what you do
I just hate this new DQ. It's so 1 dimensional there's no real reason to play ranked anymore. Old ranked you used to pick your lane based on position and what their team has done. So if you're first pick you can play safer and go jungle or support. Or if they pick someone you know you can counter hard you counter pick. On top of you can pick your role based one what the team needs. If the team doesn't have a good jungle you pick jungle. It was good and not broke then why change it? That aspect is gone and ranked is now just a boring 1 dimensional troll fest.
or just bring back old champ select. DQ is fine, new champ select isn't.
And we are getting closer to the old champion select.
Having a mandatory 2 preferences is a problem. Adding a third would make things worse.
