@Riot, What do you think of the state of the support role?

There seems to be a lot of unrest about the role and it's current state. There is also a lot of talk about how the dynamic Que frequently places people in the support role if it is their secondary or if they pick fill. I haven't really seen much from anyone at Riot about the issue. Could a Rioter stop by and let us know what they think about the state of the support role at this time? I would love to hear what Riot thinks of and/or plans for the role at this time.

Support Main here. IMO it's the same issue as with Team Builder. Most of the time, waiting in queues was waiting for supports. And the fact that support items need a rework for gold income, as even with Ancient Coin or Relic Shield you still have a lot less gold than the rest of the team.

I'm not sure that is the reason. I mean, I was able to play a very strong support in season 5 and had a major impact in the game despite a lack of gold. I managed to reach Plat 3 at the end of season 5 and was looking to get higher. Big changes happened and something in the transition had a huge impact on supports (It really hit me hard too, stuck in mid/high gold this season). It's easy to point to gold or EXP as the reason but it could be something more then that. I want to remain open minded and hear what Riot has to say. I haven't been able to find anything on the topic of supports by Riot despite there being 1-3 top topics almost every day about it. That makes me even more curious what they think and I'm wondering if they are just as divided about the issue as the players seem. It would be nice to learn what they think the issues are and even better to learn what they have been trying to change. Heck, I'd feel better with just a general "We are working on it." just to know that they are working on it.

Imo, there is nothing wrong with supp. Its just people would rather be the "carry" rather then hope they get a carry.

That and people are salty on the 2 min wait timers. . .

I'm asking for what Riot thinks because there is a lot of topics that keep going to the top of the boards. I have been a main support since season 4. I can tell you that I did not want to be the carry. I wanted to be the guy that kept the carry alive. I have more fun making a huge save then I do getting all the kills. In point of fact, I can carry from the support role if I pick Zyra, Annie, or Brand but I don't like playing that role. If support players just want to carry as a support why are they not saying so? The thing is they don't.

You play support to hit the "Support Fantasy" of aiding your team and disrupting the enemy team. It feels really hard to me this season to reach that "Support Fantasy" though so I wanted to know what Riot thinks. I'm sure Riot have been discussing the support issue as there has been a lot of discussion here in the boards about it and there is also the true issue that picking fill or support as secondary almost always gets you support.

You may feel that there is nothing wrong with support (and that is fine, everyone has different opinions) but you cannot deny that there is a lack of support players and many people seem dissatisfied with the support role at this time.
