Katarina or Shyvanna?

Well the title is self explanatory, but I just wanted to add something more. I am an ADC main and I am planning to change my playing style so that I can be a versatile player. According to me, Melee or Assassin champions are better suited for me as they have quick auto atatcks and tend to have a better health pool than ADCs. So which champion is better? Katarina or Shyvanna? Oh, and Why

P.S. I am a level 12 player.

Shyvana sounds like she'll be more the kind of champion you seek, if you're looking for an attack-based champion. Katarina is much more focused on spell combos and burst damage, while Shyvana is a melee DPS bruiser.

That said, Katarina is an easy champion to learn, and a fantastic choice if you're looking to learn a Mage playstyle. She's a nice half-way point between mages and assassins.

Both are braindead no skill champs, which is good for a beginner m,and very rewarding, but try Shyvana first because she is a little more forgiving, and basicly builds devoured and Blade of the Ruined King and she's top tier duelist

Kat is my favorite, but everything you've heard about how weak she is in lane early on is true. You can eventually turn the tables on a lot of mid-laners by running them out of mana, but Zed is a huge problem. Not much you can do in that matchup but start building Zhonya's and play super safe until you get a gank. Later in the game, you're really dependent on the the rest of your team to form a strong front line that can foster a good situation for you to go in by containing and distracting the enemy champions who can easily shut you down. On a poorly coordinated or just oblivious team, you won't likely be able to do much because enemies will be using their gap closers to CC you and either kill you or force you out of the fight while the rest of your team still won't engage because they're avoiding the enemy tanks and bruisers or just weren't watching the map and positioning themselves well.

Shyvana is a good example of a champion who least has to worry about this sort of thing. The main thing I don't like about her is that he E is so weak, even when her ult is active. She can clear the jungle so easily early on and really be tough to take down while doing lots of damage in teamfights after she gets built.

First, you shouldn't be comparing Marksman and Assassins/Melees. They are nothing alike Second, I think as a level 12 player you should be looking to master mages, simply because they are the polar opposites. Don't try and make comparisons to see what'll be easiest; You get the stronger overall if you do mages.

With that out of the way, Katarina is mage-like and really easy to understand, so i would choose kat

But Shyvana is like: "HURR DURR chase back line ignore entire team"

It really depends on what you want to do with the next champion you get. Do you want to be an assassin that tries to go in and clean up after your team, or do you want to be a tank/split pusher champion or counterjungler? I can't really say much because it would be to biased from me since Shyvana is my favorite champion in league but I'll try to not make it so biased even though I personally hate Katarina lol...

Katarina Is currently in an "ok" spot right now (I think?) and her pre6 game isn't to amazing but it's honestly safe since you can just sit back and farm or harass with your Q, and you have a dash that can teleport you on to anything that has a health bar, on a pretty low cool down (when it's maxed). Her ultimate is very strong and she lowers down 15 seconds on all her skills on all kills/assists, making her a very snowballing champion (which snowballing seems to be the meta right now). The only lane she can really do though is Mid, though she can do alright top lane depending on the matchup. She is very strong but requires the person playing her to have very fast reflexes and knowledge of when to go in and target priority. Though if she jumps in to early or the enemy team was smarter, she will get hit with 1 CC and that will basically make her almost useless since her Ult is the bulk of her damage.

Shyvana Is a Top lane or Jungle (Both she can do very well...though top isn't as popular anymore. But I still do it lol). Personally she is in a pretty good spot for both top and jungle, she does very well with either Devour or Cinderhulk (devour is better on her though) and with the new Rageblade, she is a monster once she gets going. Top lane she can fight most other melee champions, I think the only top lane champion that gives me problem right now is Olaf. She can be built as a full tank, or a fighter...usually I'd just get item 3153 item 3124 and go tank the rest of the way. When played as a jungler, her ganks aren't very good and easy to get away unless you went summoner 3 summoner 11 for shyvana jungle. She's better as a Counterjungler, and for counterganking since she can actually 1v1 most junglers and has very fast and safe clear times.

I'm just going to stop there, I could say more about each champion like possible builds, runes, masteries etc but going to wait until you decide which champion.

Assassin champs may not have the increased durability it sounds like you want. Kat has a pretty easy to learn basic pattern and can do some flashy things. I find, however, that in the face of competent opposition it's a huge pain in the ass to make it through lane phase. You have to work really hard to just stay within even distance. However, if you're at level 12 and not a lot of people are used to playing against her, she can get ahead and do very well.

Shyvana I think really struggles to find her place this meta. She can jungle with devourer, but roughly half her damage is magic damage yet she scales almost entirely with AD. This means that items like item 3071, which are staples on a lot of toplane melee bruisers, don't really do well on her. Additionally, they nerfed item 3153 and changed item 3078 to a crit-centric item, which were both great ways for her to get some stickability which she desperately needs. I don't think she fits well in the current item meta.

If you want to learn a melee top that can do pretty well with the way things are stacked right now, I'd recommend Hecarim Garen and Darius. They have pretty intuitive play patterns and can do well in a lot of matchups. If you want someone with a slightly steeper learning curve but with some pretty silly snowball potential, try Rengar.

Just my two cents.

My bet would be shyvanna. She is more versatile(top and jungle). Can stack for sated devourer which gives you the attack speed that you like. But,dont take her.In my opinion you can get the best of both worlds with Diana .She is very versatile(she can go top,mid and jungle). She rushes item 3115 which gives you ap and attack speed. She has a shield, some light cc,and a great, low cooldown(12 seconds with what i used to build on her) ultimate. You can also build her as a bruiser with rylize, nashors, lich bane, lyandris tornment rabadons etc. Also you can pick up item 3116 because it gives you a lot of ap,health and,in my opinion,a game changing passive.Another thing could be Volibear .He has an ability(W) that passively gives you attack speed. He is a bruiser. That means he deals a lot of damage while building tanky or full tank(similar to olaf and hecarim).Volibear is also versatile, being able to go jungle and top. Also you could pick up olaf Olaf .Hes another champion who passively gets attack speed, has true damage and is a bruiser. He is a top laner and can be played in the jungle. If you want, add me and we can play some games so i can help you with these champions.
