Why remove smite from lanes? If the lane opponent takes smite and you take ignite then you have much more early kill potential then them. Also the upgraded smite items are cheaper and not as powerful as their standard counterpart, for good reason since a jungle typically gets less gold then the rest of the team and needs cheap items to help clear the jungle. For example I had a game as mirror Shen top. My opponent took smite and teleport while I took ignite and teleport. I got an early kill since I had more damage then I got sunfire cape when he got cinderhulk and I continued to outrade and kill him multiple times since sunfire is simply better then cinderhulk against champions. The only advantage to smite is late game dragon and baron control but if you take ignite or teleport instead you have a much stronger early game since ignite can get you early kills while teleport means that even if you go even in trades you still win since you have more map pressure and can get back into lane a lot faster. Also dead people (except Yorick) can't used smite so if you kill them before they can smite steal your dragon/baron then you can get it uncontested. Taking smite is a simple trade off since when you take it you provide more utility with less raw stats so your team is weaker in an all-in situation. Simply put you just need to how to play around an opponent who takes smite.

Tell that to rune glaive Ezreal, who consistently deals the most damage in the game with a jungle item.
The AP mid does tend to do a lot of damage, yes.
Sorry, I forgot about mid lane for my previous comment I was referring purely to top lane.
is just really strong in general whether in the jungle or in lane and just needs to be nerfed in general.

yeah but it's literally writing at the end of your post "i was being sarcastic by the way, in case you didn't get it". super douchey.
See. I'm ok with laners taking smite for all the diversity. But I flippin hate when I have this stupid Vayne adc with devourer, stealing the jungle monsters that I'm trying to farm for my own devourer.
The problem isn't people taking smite in lane itself the problem is the enchantments are getting nerfed because of a specific champion taking smite in lane. A recent example is the Runeglaive enchant which has massive nerfs on the PBE right now because of Ezreal even though it is considered a bad item by the majority of junglers.
