It's sad/funny how much misinformation there is about Yorick. People think that he is a lane bully (spends his earlygame gold on mana; only 40% winrate 0-25 minutes in), with low scaling (have they ever checked his passive effect or Q ratio?), with a low skill cap and skill floor (see image above)...

I have concluded that most people know nothing at all about Yorick due to only seeing him once in every hundred games or so. Yet somehow the 2012 post-release-buff (community had such a knee jerk reaction that Yorick was permanently removed from free champion pool rotations) QQ has somehow endured while all other Yorick knowledge has faded into obscurity...

Yorik's late game strength isn't really in his kit, which is the deceptive part. His ult can create an effective 6v5. And by doubling an ally, he can also reinforce weakening points in the team. Or just double up on the DPS a fed ADC can do. There's also the pseudo-GA on his ult, though it's a lesser factor.

Like Urgot, he has what I like to call hidden trading potential. Damage reduction + buffs up the arse and you'll end up losing a fight you wouldn't believe you could.

Not sure I follow on Urgot either. If you are talking about his shield, then do Rumble, Riven, and Shen all have this "hidden" trading power? Or is it only Urgot and Yorick because people expect them to always be bottom tier uselessly weak so they rage when they get killed towerdiving them with half health?

No, I mean there is a lot of stuff in their kits which means they are able to dish out and take more damage than they'd seem.

Yorick has damage reduction on his passive, which allows him to take a lot of shit. He also has big sustain on his E and his Q allows him to deal stupid damage as well.

As for Urgot, when I play him toplane I often enough get first blood because people try to hard engage at level 1. Urgot's Q is basically a second auto attack on a very low cooldown, his passive reduces the damage you deal by 15%. Later on, his E shreds armor and his ult allows him to get tank stats so he can stomach a combo when he choses to engage, which he can do easily with a flash-R.

And part of the point is that many of these debuffs don't show up visibly. Yes, it's obvious if you know their kits, but they are unknown enough that people might not suspect it.

Yeah, Yorick is a pretty supportive champion. It's part of his uniqueness. A good Yorick really holds a team together.

I'm also someone who likes Yorick... I was trying to main him, but I either just got kicked from top lane or never found one in Team Builder, so most of my time with him was Ranked (which is weird and sad).

I dunno, I distinctly remember a game I watched where Trist by herself 8-shotted a base turret (9 if you count the bomb) late in a game. Given her attack speed, she can do this in roughly 4 seconds.

Heres a tip, dont always max his E. Majority of the sustain comes from he ghoul's basic attacks, which don't scale with the ability's level. Leveling your Q can give you good chasing potential and make your Q minion actually deal decent damage. Also, if you last hit a minion with your Q and E, the ghoul will always go for the nearest enemy champion if they are within aggro range. Also, dont underestimate the 140% AD ratio on his Q and the 20% damage boost/reduction from his passive. Also, his R ultimate applies on-hit effects and has it's targets items. Very important.

Opponents you should look out for are Renekton, Darius, and Garen since they have the potential (not guaranteed) to win lane against you.

yorick doesnt really have a counter can punish anyone farm at a distance bully enemies your hp low? heal a gank incoming? ult get 2 kills

Try Nasus or anyone with sustain, tankiness, or cheap waveclear (to kill ghouls quickly). He particularly can't push Nasus out of the lane, while his ghouls become Q fodder shortly into the matchup.

As far as actual matchup winrates go, rather than unsubstantiated QQ (Yorick walks into a bar... blah blah blah), there are several strong Yorick counters (Renekton, Riven, Nasus, Wukong, Pantheon, Singed, Jarvan, Malphite), and Yorick really only goes toe to toe with a medium sized pool and counters a small number (Gnar, Teemo, and some mages that occasionally go top).

Nasus is not tanky in the first few levels not untill he buys tank items yorick can have constant dps between 3 ghouls hitting him of course later levels he can't bully him outta lane but by the time nasus gets tanky and yorick gets tanky its ganna be a wet noodle fight unless nasus has 1k stacks lol
