Why is there still blue side bias in League?

Since the beginning of League, blue side has always had an advantage over the red side and it is obvious and everybody can see it. It happens in solo queue and competitive, where the blue side always wins the majority of games even if the red side has a better team composition.

I don't think it is because of the camera angle because the majority of players should be able to play with unlocked camera anyway. There must be other reasons for blue side bias still existing in League.

eeeh, blue side has a 51% winrate in Solo/Duo. Red side has a 50.7% winrate in flex.

So I wouldn't say that it's an 'obvious' advantage to be on blue side.

That's compensated bc red side is usually given a higher MMR when matchmaking

Blue side has

  • a much better jg open too where you start red with a strong leash then win out on jg duels when you have red buff to fight vs blue
  • safer laner for the bot laners where they have more room and visibility around them which leads to better dragon protection and access

Baron pit basically. Blue team's approach to the pit is just better, while Red team has to curve around through the river or have some of their members try and jump the wall.

It's worth mentioning that there have been patches where Red team had a slight advantage. I believe the consensus at the time was that counter picking was offsetting the Baron pit advantage of Blue.

Skill shots are still easier to hit for blue side regardless of locked/unlocked camera. Its a different viewpoint, and the upward motion to ht a target is easier to achieve then scrolling downward. Its also easier to keep your character on screen from blue side, and you could probably make an argument you have slightly better view distance/vision from blue side.

The differences are minor obviously, but they are noticeable.

Being able to start Red/Botlane for that sweet 2 man leash IMO, since especially early game red buff is MILES more impactful than blue buff (true damage burn, slow) allows faster scuttle contest as well as threatening potential level 2 ganks.

Edit: also as someone else said blue side has a better approach on baron pit.
