Just to give you some counterplay, Randuin's Omen or Frozen Heart for the attack speed slow. Swifties or Merc Treads to survive his Cc. If he has Frozen Mallet and you are melee and can't all in onto him and win a trade, just don't fight him, he will win.

And the biggest thing of all. If he bought anything substantial (even just his first component), don't let him just walk right up to you in mega form. It's lets him save his gapcloser, he will win the trade no matter what you can do as far as damage just respect his all-in ability as mega-Gnar.

But yea, Gnar's strong if you know what to do. Not OP tho. His damage falls super hard in the late game and can easily outscaled by a number of other top Laners who all happen to be in the meta right now (Irelia, GP, Ekko, Shen).

He is op at competitive.He can be fine in soloq but he is op at competitive.I won't discuss this word.(op)

Okay, maybe win rate =/= strong or weak? He literally says to you; "I will fuck you in lane because you are melee. I will buy frozen mallet so you can't escape and so I can get free rage." And by the time he gets full rage he is right next to you while being Mega. He also deals % HP damage every 3rd hit, and he gets free AS. That is the definition of BS.

Gnar isn't in a bad place right, no. The thing with Gnar is he is weak early and he is weaker in mini (especially without Mallet). The best practice is to not fight Gnar when he's mega and to fight him when he's mini. Especially in the Irelia-Gnar matchup, pre-Frozen Mallet, Irelia can dump on mini-Gnar but will have a harder time against mega.

for someone who used to main gnar the scariest champs for him are jax and irelia especially when they know when to engage on him, he's squishy as hell and without frozen mallet/black cleaver it's hard to 1v1 w/o a jg gank or a misplay by the opponent

Here's the skinny as far as I see it. Gnar (mini Gnar especially) is weak before Frozen Mallet. Play something that can hard engage on him (Irelia, Jax, Jayce, Pantheon) and punish his low base stats in mini form. If you just let Gnar get to Mallet without carving yourself a gold lead, then that's when Gnar can take over the game. He's a mid game power spike champion, he's great on one or two items but fairly weak without them and underwhelming at 6 items.

Either you need to beat Gnar to the mid game or respect his mid game and wait until late game.

I kind of look at Gnar (strange as it seems) as a control top laner. He likes to control zones where if you walk into his zone, you will have a tough time getting out (like Viktor and Azir). What is the number one rule of thumb against those champs...don't walk into their zones. Same for Gnar. If he ever is allowed to just walk right up to you while mega, he deserved to win the trade or even get the kill.

Gnar also only has a 52% winrate for really experienced players(125+ games), which isn't even out of line. I think people just need to build better against him. If he's building Frozen Mallet, build Merc Treads or Swfities.

Omg I just watched it again, it was so bad, Gnar had full rage bar, he fought him close to a wall too like idiot... he was already behind because of Elise ganking him. He calls himself.. wth was he thinking.. Irelia could have killed that Gnar twice if Elise didnt come top and screw with him, or if he wasnt braindead.
