Is Sightstone overrated?
There's no substitute for situational awareness. I feel like this item just relegates one player to bitch-class status. its no wonder people don't enjoy being the 5th wheel.

no it is not.. infact its underated becuase there still seems to me people here who don't buy it
and yes there are situations where it is better to get it later...
for example.. if you are heavily losing lane grabbing a
would be counterproductive because you are pushed to your tower and can't safely place the wards. and you are even less likely to get ganked because said gank would require a towerdive.
therefore there so no point in a grabbing a sightstone until you can USE it...
the only things sightstone gives is 150 hp if you can't or don't place the wards.
that being said... if there is ONE thing the people SHOULD take away from lcs..
its that they have fights over vision.. vision is the key to every decision.
you can still made bad decisions with vision. but if you are a person who makes good decisions, vision is key
for example.. even if your teammates have no map awareness.. as long as YOU do.. anything YOU see on the map you can ping.
and normally even people who dont look at the map will notice a warning ping next to them and take a glace at it. and they normally use that info..
Especially if they ganker coming is STILL in vision.
having vision is what allows you to make the proper decisions.
for example.. if you see the enemy grouped far away from dragon or baron or even an tower.. you can take the objective without any contest.
but without that knowledge you would likely not know it was a free objective and would likely not attempt it because the enemy could be right there.
because if you know where the enemy IS, it means u know where they are NOT. and having that data wins games..
Coming from a guy who mains JG and AP DMG support (no sightstone in build) I think vision is very valuable BUT not at the expense of my damage. I often carry my lane and game via damage and have win rates in the 60% with my support. To your point, situational awareness trumps all. If I can survive lane, rotating as a vulnerable AP supp with no mobility you will be ok. If you won't, it's not because of my lack of sightstone, it's b/c you lack mechanics.
That being said. I will regularly have people bitch and moan at me for sighstone, especially if we are losing...despite the fact that top and mid lost lane the entire game it's my fault I should have had a sightstone.
I don't and never have liked Sightstones and I'm Plat II.
Jungle fights are always a toss up win or loss of game gamble, and it's best not to encourage them. Overwarding = Supports with higher death rates and teammates who are easily baited into a fight they can't win, or chasing into a small corridor and then getting their team nuked by hidden aoes,
Vision is nice...... until your team uses it as a crutch and has no other way to really be aware of where anyone is.
Vision is also a serious risk right now with Duskblade teams clearing almost all of them, and getting 30g per, and some even turning them into Zombie wards.
I wish they'd just take that passive off Duskblades. Adcs would stop using it as much, and you might see 1-2 per game, instead of 4.
Even Lee Sin is now building Duskblade, which gives him up to 8 wards of personal ownership at any given time (Zombies, Tracker, Pink).
Great comments all. Thanks!
