Should the mastery system be reverted/reworked?

It's not exactly unknown knowledge that the reworked mastery system added an insane amount of damage to the game. From % Damage increase to free damage from the keystones, the mastery system just has so many things that un-necessarily gave champions a massive steroid to their damage output. It's furthered snowballing (among other mechanics), which shortened games, and destroyed game balance which led to smaller pools of viable champions and thus far less variety in the game.

Champions who can build durability or least remain durable by any means are rewarded for free damage while champions who can only focus on damage are punished by not being able to survive. The prime examples of this are Hecarim, Lee, and Vi while the receiving end falls to assassins and ADC's.

Assassins are exposed to a meta where everything is durable enough to far outlive them while still having enough damage to retaliate and kill them without any issue. ADC's are exposed to a meta where most tanky characters can simply chase down and dive them regardless of their position because there's simply no way for them or their team to kill the champion diving them before they themselves die.

By reverted I'm talking about being changed to a state similar, or exactly like the old system pre rework. The keystones were ok to add variety but at this point I think the new mastery trees and the keystones have hurt the game far more than any good they've actually done.

If nothing else, it'd be nice to see a playtest just simply trying the idea of playing with a more simplistic mastery system that was like the old one paired with modern league. The keystones could even remain but instead be refocused into utility based on their intended role. Like how there's warlords for the ferocity tree, storm raiders for the cunning tree, and Courage of the Colossus for the resolve tree.

Considering they have an idea to go into 5 different trees, yes.

Yes.

I'm in favor of cutting down the trees completely. Have something like 30ish Masteries and you pick one of them. As in, that's the thing you Master. You would get an extra passive to play around with and given the choice of THIRTY of them I suspect the current illusion of choice problem would be less of an illusion. Chances are there would be several that fit your play style.
