What if Riot disabled new champs in ranked for 1 week,

warpenguin555··86 votes·2,386 views

But made them unbanable in normal draft for the same duration? That way people would have time to learn how to play them and form ideas of what to do against them and not have to put up with some idiot feeding because they thought picking a champion they know nothing about would be a great idea in ranked.

No thanks ranked games are perfect for practicing g new champs in a competitive setting. Normals are too troll to accurately determine the best tactics for kled.

Only ranked games can truly tea h you how to main kled

Before i say this, let it be known that I am a huge hypocrite, but I hate when people play their first game with someone in ranked (I do this too but I seem to get lucky most the time, but like i said, im a hypocrite.)

I really don't have a problem with this depending on the situation.

If you're first timing with someone who's not relatively hard to play/understand, or if you're a high enough rank to understand game mechanics so playing new champions doesn't really make a difference, go ahead, play whoever.

But if you're trying to play Azir in silver 4 without any experience of how his kit works, then you're pretty much a troll.

I'm sure Riot won't do that but I'm totally with you on being frustrated af when a teammate in a ranked game picks a brand new champ and feeds the $h!t out of the enemy team. I don't understand why people pick new champs and play them in ranked. That's what norms and custom is for...go practice new champs there....

Gary B Enkelis2 votes

Hey man, go easy on them. Are you tough on yourself too?

Yes I am. I never ask from my team-mates things I do not ask from myself first.

Not everyone wants what you want.

When you go into a competitive match, you should do your best. And you're probably not doing your best if you pick a champ you've no (or very little) experience with.

Then nobody should go into competitive matches because everybody has something to learn?

I mean if you don't know everything and you go into a match then aren't you doing less than you could? Ok maybe this makes no sense.

DeathBurst1 votes

Yeah, it makes no sense, because I'm not saying you should anticipate on the future and not play Ranked until you have reached you're 100% full potential. But if you have 200 games of experience on another champ, you'll probably play better with that other champ than with a brand new champ you just started learning, at this point in time.

Yeah, that makes sense. Some practice is better than no practice. I agree. However, I'm not going to force someone to play a champ they don't want to play, even if they have 200 games, just to make me feel better. It's not all about me.

If they have 200 games of Brand and want to play their first game of Bard then fine.

This all matters so little.

Well, no it's not fine, not in Ranked. And I find it quite ironical: when I'm asking someone else to do his best, I'm selfish, it's "all about me", but when they don't care about their team-mates, who have things at stakes in a Ranked game, more probably than not, they are not selfish?

If I'm asking someone to do his best to win, we all win. If he just does what he pleases, Mundo-style, we all lose. What's best to force on other people? And is it better to force 1 or 4 people?

What does anyone have at stake in a ranked game? Their rank? They can just earn it back if they lose it.

I'm being trolly.

Yeah their rank, maybe it's not important to some, but then here it is selfish for them to decide it's not important for others, too.

Nobody is saying it's not important for others. Winning is never guaranteed no matter how hard you try.

But if you do NOT try hard, losing is much more probable.

Definitely. It's like the story of the tortoise and the hare, perhaps?

Gary B Enkelis2 votes

It would be incredibly frustrating for high rank people to play in low MMR normals, I imagine. It wouldn't really give you a chance to try the champion vs people your skill. I think you're terrified of change or something. Rank is here to test your skill. You obviously won't win every game. It's fine to try new stuff out. Do it in my games. Just try to win, is all I ask of anybody. Having the new champ and not being able to use it right away in your favorite mode (ranked) sounds incredibly dull.

I mean would you go a step further and restrict ranked from everyone for 7 days after every major or minor patch? Because some people are slower learners than others or something? I wouldn't. That's how ranked always is anyway: the slow people fall behind. Just go in. Go ham. Have fun. Live.

warpenguin5553 votes

im not terrified of change, im terrified of the 20-0 enemy laner that the guy on my team fed because they picked a champion into a ranked game that they have 0 knowledge about. Doing that in the place where you are supposed to prove your skill is setting both yourself and your team up for failure before the game even starts and is an unacceptable way to play the game. You should be trying to do everything in your power to win, picking a champion you know nothing about in the 1 mode that actually matters is in no way doing so

If you're terrified of an imaginary scenario then that's ok. I kinda suffer from anxiety so I can kinda understand if that is the case.

It's not an imaginary scenario, it's a case that's been seen many, many times in the past every time a damned new champion gets released. There's a reason why people have gained the habit of instabanning a new champion in ranked for a while.

Ranked is here to test your skills, not to practice on a champion you know shit about except the general skills and maybe a few games of PBE practice which don't mean squat in high ELO ranks.

sounds like your plauged by players from the pit of elo hell rising to rear they ugly head in your games

LatetotheRace2 votes

I doubt the high ranked players give a damn. Why you may ask? Because they're not stupid enough to try out kled in a ranked scenario. They do and will learn him in normals or custom games.

Gary B Enkelis1 votes

That's odd, because I watched Dyrus and Sneaky play Kled last night in what appeared to be a ranked scenario. I mean maybe they had some practice on PBE before release? And maybe they were on their diamond smurfs or something? I forget. Maybe it wasn't ranked. Bad example. My bad.

Well I wouldn't call it stupid to play the game how you want to play the game. If that means first timing stuff in ranked then more power to you. You'd probably perform better than me for all I know.

I understand how hearing "first time" can cause worry, chest feels heavy, ya know. I get that. It happens. I just try to worry about me and keep my mind on winning the game no matter what happens... Except maybe DCs. Those are painful. I'd rather have a first time Kled than fight 4v5.

Edit: Look at this guy from NA, C9 I Shadow I, he's Master. That's pretty high rank..... He's been playing Kled since yesterday. First game: 10/2/7. Maybe they practiced on PBE? What is he, 5 wins out of 5? Playing at Master level? I mean yeah maybe he tried some normals or custom games first? I guess another bad example? My bad. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-history/NA/35535518

Lol, almost any high elo player who's really only playing ranked would never go and try a champ in normals. Literally every time I watch high Dia - Challenger players try a new champ they'll do it in ranked, in a few cases they maybe play 1 normal game just to get a general feel for the champ, but none of them sees normals as a way to test champions since they'll still stomp normals in most cases.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Yes, the players with a very high skill level in almost every role have good confidence in their abilities and prove it repeatedly. I'm not disagreeing with that. But I am saying that your average low-mid diamond (and maybe high plat, whatever you consider) don't typically do something like that because their rank is on the line. The absolute best of the best don't care about losing a game or two as they can easily make it back.

KoggyStyle1 votes

they call us bad.... make em suffer.

It honestly doesnt matter. People go into Ranked with a champ they never even played before all the time. Also some players may have played on PBE for all we know and may be very good with the new champ.

Sarutobi1 votes

I understand why people would want a new champion ban, but it should only be fore Rank any other mode should be free range since that's the point of those mode.

Gary B Enkelis1 votes

Just use the ban built in to draft. So it opens up another OP? Well so what?

Khadaver1 votes

If the new champ is monstrous and beyond broken then the unbannable part would be annoying as hell.

Rabblerouser1 votes

So basically.. you're talking about Kled.

Veltox1 votes

How exactly is kled op?Gnar like passive Mounted q and e+his early damage and tankiness are nothing special when u look at stuff like Renekton or Pantheon .

LatetotheRace1 votes

Damage and base health. Lots of both.

very delayed damage doe.

What Riot should do is make you win a certain amount of games with a champion in normals before being able to play ranked. PS I'm tired of these threads. The enemy team has an even higher chance of having a 1st time Kled. Here's the math People on your team that you don't know what they're gonna play: 4 People on enemy team that you don't know what they're gonna play: 5

astralwit1 votes

New champs. are already disabled in ranked for a week since they're permabanned.

Caraméla1 votes

There is a better solution. What if Riot actually listened to the pbe testers when, from the first game kled was played, they kept pointing out how ridiculously broken he is and actually nerf him pre launch. I mean, why the hell is there a pbe server if pbe players are never heard by riot?

KoggyStyle1 votes

you would still get bad players at said champ cuase they were ip grinding it out that week.

Gary B Enkelis1 votes

Anyone who takes the time to IP grind probably knows a thing or two about this game, beyond champion stuff. I'd trust them.

Secretlolz1 votes

Then the very same gnats picking the new thing into ranked would pick another thing they don't know how to use or just bought and bring it into ranked. You can't escape. Trust me

Fegone1 votes

How about you just don't play ranked for 1 week, and get the same effect? That way you get what you want and don't project your viewpoints on everyone else.

DarkRitual1 votes

People who only play ranked wouldn't have any more experience with him than they do now. So you'll still get first time Kled players.

Twisted Skyline1 votes

I honestly had the exact same opinion.
