Is it going to be worth putting time and effort into pyke?

Riot, you just put a high mobile assassin in the game who also has access to CC. On top of that he also regenerates health he loses when hes out of sight... but the problem with that is you gave him a camo.

[sg-lux-2] Why? this reminds me of a certain scenario involving two characters. Lucian and kalista

Lucian the ADC who was said to have far too much mobility so you nerfed him, and then a couple months later releasing kalista. The ADC who can kite you with a mini hop after every single auto attack the very ADC who is now intentionally kept bad because a viable kalista is a nightmare to deal with.

Now we have this assassin called pyke. I love his design (his lore is trash because its the exact same as nautilus unless they retconned but that is a discussion for a whole new topic) Who on paper is going to be problematic.

Zed Fizz Akali Talon Kassadin Leblanc Shaco Khazix Rengar Evelynn

people already have a problem with ALL the assassins that are currently in the game. (some more than others but still a problem nonetheless.) yet you guys still decided that pyke is going to be well received?

He has a passive that heals him when out of sight, which completely outclasses eve's passive

A gap closer that stuns AND is flash dependent meaning you can flash to change the direction of the stun. Yea that is right, an assassin that stuns people something none of the other assassins can do yet those assassins are still hated.

an ability that takes him out of line of sight AND gives him a movement speed boost which can proc his healing.

Leblanc style chain but instead of rooting people it flat out pulls people towards him and slows. (Fun fact, try dodging pyke's stun if he lands his Q. it will be just as easy as avoiding zilean bombs after he slows you or dodging lux Q after she slows you. :D )

But the real icing on the cake, a Gap closing ult that is an execute. Which if im understanding correctly has resets if you kill someone and does AOE damage. http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/005/498/1300044776986.jpg

Don't get me wrong i love assassins and they are by far my favorite class and have my favorite characters. But if i can't play the current assassins without them getting nerfed or reworked. Why in the blue fuck would you think i or anyone else who is digging pyke would be able to play him after he goes live?

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs] way to go riot, you made a dope character who is going to be fucking broken then nerfed to smithereens once hes released.

I just fail to see how any of his kit is inherently more OP than, for instance, Blitzcrank.

People act like you can just walk up to anyone from stealth and 100-0 them with Pyke. He doesn't have his own damage. All he has is the ult, which will help secure kills, but he's reliant on his team to get those people low. He doesn't have any big damage abilities, and he doesn't have any auto attacks modifiers to make himself hit that hard.

Again, compare to Blitz. He also has a grab, a knock-up (better than a stun), and he can silence and do huge AoE damage with ult. It's really not that different if you ask me. Biggest difference is camo/regen vs. ms boost and shield. The rest of the kits are actually pretty similar, tbh. Yeah, pyke has the reset on ult, but blitz has passive on his and it's low cd.

It's sort of the incarnation of "death is the strongest cc," but he looks like he'll play like a roaming support. I don't see the big difference in power level there. You'll have to explain to me what the common situation is where Pyke is so much better than a Blitz.

Only time will tell his actual numbers, but this doesn't look like "He doesn't have his own damage"

I think that he was referring to more in lane. I think Pykes lane will play like Thresh but he trades safety and utility for more aggressive play making and roam spells (as well as sustain) I don't think we're going to see big damage until he gets some items.

It all is going to depend on numbers, personally I'm already leaning towards "this character is poorly designed and will be extremely feast or famine". But until we see the actual numbers we won't be able to know for sure.

He's definitely going to be feast or famine, but that's all assassins.

The "let's give everyone really obvious and clear counterplay against assassins" fantasy hasn't really played out. The counterplay against assassins remains the same; be aware of what they can do, and don't get caught alone.

That video is a solid counterargument, but it's hard to say definitively what is going on there since we can't see how fed either party is. They may very well have to adjust numbers. If he does have enough damage to be solo-killing people like that on the regular, it's not difficult to nerf the AD he gets from that passive. It's an easy fix.

Riot said up-front in the promo material that he should still be team-reliant. So it's already obvious to the designers that if that isn't the case, there's a problem. The people who made the promo video are just trying to make him look cool, and they succeeded, for sure.

I meant more that his design is feast or famine and not his assassin gameplay. You have a character who is designed to be aggressive with little utility, with no bonus hp, in the highest damage lane. If his stats are too high he can be overbearing and sustain using his passive forever, if his stats are too low he just has no point in being bot lane as he will be outlaned, outscaled, and relatively useless.

Riot said up-front in the promo material that he should still be team-reliant

Personally as someone with at least a thousand games on a plethora of assassins I believe (and I might be wrong) that a team reliant assassin will always fail. Sure you can give them features that help them mesh with teamplay, but an assassin that depends on a team sounds like it will possibly work in pro play and definitely fail in solo queue. That is what I would call a design failure, he will either be adjusted out of bot lane/being an assassin or he will be imbalanced.

And I'll say it again, I could very well be 100% wrong but I just don't see a balanced state of numbers for this champion. He has a cool theme and I hope his possible rework gets him into a solo lane/jungle instead of gutting damage to stay as a support.

Well he is an assassin designed to steal kills and give full gold to the person he stole it from. He's most likely going to be incredibly feast or famine, but his ult gives him a way to just wait out a fight and then get back into a snowball at a moments notice.

I think he's gonna be similar to Draven when it comes to snowballing, and pairing the two will either be incredibly scary or incredibly pathetic if you never let them start rolling.

Pyke has no utility whatsoever. Why would I want pyke on my team as an adc? If he is a roaming support, probably would be like bard; unusable. He can't abuse ardent censer, he can't be tanky, he does have very unreliable CC; why do I want a pyke on my lane as an adc? I think the problem here is the fact that he is gonna be either an orn, or a zoe. If he is strong, is gonna be waaay too strong and opressive, and then nerfed into oblivion. If people start complaining he's weak, riot will overbuff him like they did with orn; then people are gonna start playing Pyke mid or top (like most assasins do) and then riot is gonna nerf him into oblivion. I really like the concept, but an assasin support?I'd rather have the good old lee sin with exahust roaming around. Even tho I hate it 99% of the time. At least lee sin can kick the enemy asassin away from you (or into you lol).

Puts assassin sup in game nerfs ADC powerspike so they get it further into the game while also decreasing the armor ADCs have

hey but at least Pyke doesn't get health from items amiright

MagnusOfProspero1 votes

fuck i didn't even consider that. They just nerfed adc armor, and now their putting an assassin (the bane of an adc's existance) into the bot lane

Actually, he only regenerates health if he has taken champion damage so jungle won’t really be an option for him. He also can’t build extra health so he’ll just be very squishy. Evelynn’s passive gives her a permanent camouflage every 5 seconds and the healing scales with AP and does not require her to take any champion damage like Pyke’s does. It also doesn’t require her to not be seen by enemies to activate the passive while Pyke does, requiring him to walk out of lane if all the bushes are warded.
