sion's W sucks every dick on the entire planet
you'll never get to use it in combat because it breaks in 2 autos. And then the CD is hilariously long. he'd at least have good dueling potential if he could use it in fights

What are you doing? Maxing it last?
W max second after Q. Im actually going to try and max Q then E now. I don't think W is even worth it idk.. I actually tried building PD for a while so that i could make use of his shield and it was interesting.
I max W second and it feels fine to me. Though granted I don't try to use it as both a sword AND a shield all the time. I prefer one or the other.

what do you mean by this
shield: defensive tool sword: ofensive tool he uses the shield to have more effectiv hp in fight and to become more tanky. you try to use it as a damage tool.__
You can use the shield for durability or damage.
Trying to use it for both simultaneously is far trickier.
I mainly learned this in the jungle but it kinda works in top.
People tend to see Sion's shield as having two benefits and get pissed off when they get neither. That's because they aren't really thinking about when to use the ability. Sion's shield is best used when you want to use it for offense or defense.
If you want to use it offensively, you start it earlier before engaging. Yes this tells your opponent that you're planning on using the shield, but if the situation is right (like they are blocked by minions or you knocked them up) then they won't be able to prevent it as you started charging it a good distance away.
If you want to use it defensively, you use it more reactionary than actively.
At least that's how I think of it. It's basically charging your W right as you start to charge your Q against the Raptors instead of doing it in the middle of the raptors.
For laning, you can (often) activate the shield after you land your E's slow on the opponent.
Slow them, knock them up, detonate the shield, end the trade.
ok u basically just described his kit to me, which is not what im saying. His W cannot be used offensively in duels WHATSOEVER.
Are you trying to get his W off from start to finish in the middle of a duel?
Why are you leveling Q first? E is far superior.
Q is good if your opponent can't avoid it worth shit. E is for when you don't want to fight your opponent.
E has comparable harass to even a fully charged Q, reduces armor, increases in slow per rank, and is ranged. It's rare that you'll have a matchup where you can consistently land fully charged Qs. The cooldown on E harass also goes down to 8 seconds. Q is a static 13.
E doesn't reduce armor when launching a minion (where it does the most damage) and costs more mana.
It's barely more mana. 'Tis also why statistical data shows that leveling E is superior to Q through data available online.
I know people max E more. Just saying that there are benefits to maxing Q.
Your 'benefit' was that the opponent was bad and couldn't avoid it consistently. That's not really a benefit so much as the opponent being oblivious, as even the slowest characters can dodge it. And generally, your top lane matchups will be characters with dashes / movement speed increases / whatever other shennigans to avoid it regardless.
The actual benefit was the lower mana cost.
Q is good if your opponent can't avoid it worth shit.
I rest my case lol.
And I already knew that E was better.
Poor baby. Guess you'd better build armor and get more EHP out of it instead.
yeah, im literally crying rn
with defensive runes and masteries the shield is strong
in hard match ups as sion i usually get
as my 1st item and max W 1st and just farm to become an unkillable tank, i usually go for sunfire next then a titanic hydra and my boots depends on what im vsing but i run flash TP for summoners, i play defensively as him and just farm
so y 1st item would be
then
for sustain through mana sustains and shields for hp sustain
depends on the match up tho, and its not bad in trades either when yo use it then stun with Q for the mini sheild mastery then blow up W (cause maxing it first makes it strong in a trade) for damage (that 10% enemy hp is strong if done constantly)
and between tp and your ult you can always get back to lane fast
sion can be an immovable lane tank for the laning phase if you play him as that instead of trying to get kills, and while you dont have the same chance to snowball its a much safer way to lane and farm as him to get that late game hp bonus on the W passive
If you use his W to mitigate damage and survive, that's fine. If you're trying to utilize it to get that juicy %Health Damage, you're going to want to set it up prior. Think having the enemy facecheck a bush while your Q is charging up. This is the perfect time to have your W on standby waiting to explode to utilize it for the highest burst possible.
On a related note, you can use it in combination with your Ultimate to provide that massive AoE teamfight burst. Rarely does Sion (unless incredibly far ahead) have the capability of using his W shield to both mitigate the enemy team's entire kit as well as use it for damage on his own. That would give him little to no counterplay against his opponents who won't be able to pop his shield or even make a dent in his HP pool while being damaged for trying to trade. This is compounded by his Passive that will punish champions that are very low HP and dive in to finish Sion off, effectively trading kills at that point.
Also, Flash tends to work better on Sion rather than Ghost. You can easily Flash in to provide massive AoE damage to an entire team with your W/R while also slowing them, and setting yourself up for a huge Q, forcing the enemy team to flash away. You can also self-suicide with Flash if you know you're going to die, to put yourself in a better position for your passive - very similar to how Karthus will often do so.
If you're intent on running Thunderlord's + Warrior + Protobelt for a...bursty (?) build, I would recommend going one way or the other. Lethality Sion packs a tremendous punch with his scaling on Q, while simultaneously 3-shotting enemies with his Passive running thanks to it dealing Physical damage. Also, you can use Ghostblade while you're in Passive, further increasing your chase-down potential.
I'll give it that the thread title is pretty hilarious.
