Thunderlord's Dilemma

**TLDR= thunderlord's is viable on just about anyone and is proc'd too easily. I recommend moving the % health requirement from stormraider's surge over to thunderlord's so it is only taken by burst mage/assassin playstyle because I believe that is the intent of keystones. to suit a playstyle and define how you play. currently, it is "free damage" **

so I've been playing preseason for a bit now and the changes are all interesting and not as bad as I expected.

there are still issues being worked out, but overall it could be worse. there are some outliers that are just absurdly broken. Rageblade, Frost Queen's Claim, etc.

that said, I think we should really take a hard look at Thunderlord's Decree. When the keystone masteries first came out I basically saw this and thought "oh cool, its like a free luden's" sort of. I haven't seen it do the AOE of luden's like it said originally, but adding to early burst is there.

There are some serious issues with the mastery though. It's clear the intended style of this mastery is to add burst to a combo for Assassins/Burst Mages. That is the entire goal. it is to get short trades and burst someone down.

What is instead happening besides that, is that pretty much anyone who can proc it fast is taking it. Bard does absurd damage with it, Lux can proc it with one ability and auto(im a lux main and it is silly), Leblanc can proc it with just Q > W. And they aren't taking it for "burst combos". They are taking it cuz they can reliably proc it off cooldown with little to no effort. I've taken it on Lucian, Vayne, etc. and it works really well.

The numbers don't seem too bad. How easy it is to proc it does seem idk...off? The burst coming out in the game right now is just off the charts. I can be chunked by 25% level one by simply being auto attacked a few times by support and lord help me if they both get their thunderlord's proc off on me.

I think it needs some form of way to where it is set up solely for burst playstyle rather than "im just getting a ton of free damage" because it FEELS shitty right now to use and to be abused by it.

For all their problems, Deathfire touch fundamentally works well and fervor of battle suits a certain playstyle(although it may have been nerfed too hard). You can get thunderlord's on literally anyone.

My idea is to take the the %health requirement from the stormraider's surge and move it to thunderlord's. you can possibly UP the damage on thunderlord's to compensate but I would be weary of this as it might be too strong. Either way, it suits everyone as its basically free damage in its current state.

Stormraider's surge also needs a look as it is a great idea, but the movespeed isn't quite enough or noticeable and should be far easier to proc since it is ONLY movement speed and does not buff your damage in any way.

Not a horrible thought, but that will make it pretty darn weak in laning phase.

Thing is, compare its damage to deathfire touch. If you do what you propose, thunderlord's is only good for all-ins or extended trades during the lane phase. DFT, on the other hand, is good at poke... trades... all ins... everything. So from that stand point, thunderlord's is probably in a pretty good place. It's better on many champions, especially mid laners, for lane phase, and it's better for bursting an opponent 100-0. However, DFT is better for teamfights, poking, and sustained damage.

That said, as a fellow Lux player, thunderlord's is pretty silly on Lux. Kha'zix is in a similar place (his passive auto also counts as 2 hits for thunderlord's).

to be fair Khazix needs the help from it
