supports and the preseason changes

I have to say, I'm kind of... impressed? Maybe pleased is the better word.

  • support masteries not only allow for utility, but the point system also allows room for extra offense on the more ability/poke oriented supports
  • support items have a bit better feel in terms of general usage and cost
  • I actually bought item 3092 and didn't just sell item 3303 / item 3098 . I actually used it and liked it. The 150% regen was great. The new active is super useful and provides more utility. Waaaaaaaay better than the last version.
  • the increased mana regen for some champs is a plus
  • the Meditation mastery feels more useful even though it's about the same effectiveness as before (probably due to actually being able to SEE the mana gained)
  • New Intelligence mastery lets you break the CDR cap. Hell yes.
  • Windspeakers blessing is a pretty good mastery to pick up for healer/utility supports, especially late game since it's 10% of your shield/heal's value.

I haven't gotten to use some of the other support items like the new Eye items, but I really like the trade off between slot space and efficiency.

As a great fan of the Ancient Coin, I am really disappointed with it being nerfed so much. No more movement speed, no more gold passive. It has gone from the roaming support's dream to "you better sit in lane when the wave hits or no gold for you". Time your backs perfectly, or you lose gold. And with fewer wards in the Sightstones, you'll have to back more often.

I am also not sold on having the choice between "an upgraded gold item and an upgraded Sightstone" or the Eye items. One of the two is going to be superior, and the other option will be a noob trap. I think it would've been better to introduce the Eyes and to do away with the other tier 3 support items (regardless of the fact that those are rather good). Right now it looks like the development team couldn't reach an agreement between the "cool new Sightstone idea" camp and the "I love the tier 3 items" camp, and their compromise is "both, and let the players sort it out".

I'm actually glad that they kept them all ingame- it gives you a choice of how to play.

The only change I'm not happy about is the removal of stealth wards in the shop. The trinket is awful for early game vision, and I find myself backing the moment I can afford sightstone (and backing more often just to recharge it. One less charge really does make a big difference).
